Not only is your analogy invalid - dislike of boss vs abuse of 14 yo (WTF that you considered it equivalent lol!), Stephano is paid by EG to represent them. As a paid employee, Stephano is obliged to follow the rules and regulations that are fair.
Still, I know what Stephano said is obviously a joke - and I do think that the PC world is a little bit too much.

I am pretty happy that I live a life where stupid things I say in a meaningless chat between friends can't be hold against me. Doesn't qualify me as a politician though

Stephano really needs to be more careful about what he says publicly (and if he as a 19year old really had sex with a 14 year old... oh well, not a good thing, but it is not as if this isn't relatively common, both are just teenagers). .

Its not oh well, its F***ing illegal. Not only the US, but around the world its not exactly 'meh, oh well." Not only that, if you are in the US, guess what? You go by US laws. If I was in France and hypothetically did something illegal there, but I go "oh well in the US, this is okay so back off." I bet you they wouldn't take kind to that, now would they?

But Stephano isn't just in France. He derives his income from his international reputation, not just the French one. And he is not hired as a programmer, or a data entry assistant, he is hired solely to represent EG and its sponsors in a favorable way. Therefore what he says matters a great deal more, than what someone with an ordinary job does (btw abuse of a 14yo is generally considered worse than dislike for your boss in most of the world).

I totally disagree with that, starcraft is e-sport, it has nothing to do with politics, this issue is pure politics, a soccer player can say whatever he wants outside the garden. Just an example, Gignac a soccer player threaten some random guy in the street to beat the shit out of him in front of his family because of some stupid argument. It went in the news, does it mean his club punished him? No...

I don't see why ppl can't see the difference. Politics is not e-sport and therefore shoudn't be mixed.

Right move by EG management, but I would've preferred the variant without the whole drama.

Actually, Politicians have a right to private life you know. If a politician is paying prostitute to have sex, it shouldn't be relayed by the media and we shouldn't give a shit how he decides to lives his life. Don't deny any man or woman his/her right to live his life however he/her wants

I don't know where this supposed incident happened.

And it is illegal in Germany too. I don't take sides here but I went to a highschool which was basically without violence or any bigger problems of any kind. And these kind of relationships were pretty common. A girl in my class had a 23year old boyfriend when she was 14 and the parents knew about it. And that was as an upper class family.

So when I say 'oh well', this is just me being not surprised because it happens all the time. Again, this is not me talking about morality or legal things. I am just saying in the real world these things happen, the differences between a 14yo girl and a 19yo boy are not really that big. 19yo fuck 15-16 yo all the time in Germany. And sometimes they are just one year younger. This is just reality.

Kind of a pity the way sponsorship involves this kind of big brother mentality. Stephano may well have been making trouble on purpose (knowing that Bling was streaming) but if he honestly didn't know the context he was talking in, I have a hard time thinking that he should be suspended just because he should have known that any stupid thing he said was going to reproduced and made a fuss over. Sure, the ideas he expressed were crass and even offensive, but there has to be some distinction between company time and non-company time somewhere down the line. One's whole life should not be dictated to them by their sponsors.

That said, now that the story has broken I suppose Evil Geniuses don't really have a choice in the matter. It's just a shame that it has to work out this way. When the most interesting and iconoclastic and outspoken people in the scene are consistently being punished it bums me out. It just seems like some people (usually the players I truly like) aren't really suited for being corporate salespeople. Just because you are starcraft gamewinning machine doesn't mean that you are the best keyboard and RAM salesman. I suppose what really sucks is that to be a starcraft player you are ultimately beholden to the whims of keyboard and RAM sales.
Only want to see you /dancing in the PurpleRain.

I think we should all email sponsors and let them know how much we appreciate the fact that they support what we love. And not just the EG sponsors, all sponsors.

I would be very interested to know exactly which law some of the previous commenters claim Stephano broke when they say "it's illegal." It sounds as if they are saying that telling the joke itself breaks the law. Surely they can't be taking his statements literally. Furthermore, free speech is only valuable if we are willing to let people say completely heinous, repugnant things ("Yes, we believe in free speech, but only if you stay within certain appropriate boundaries").

I can promise you that plenty of sports allow suspensions and fines for unprofessional conduct, even if soccer teams do not tend to be keen on it.

And why do you think EG hired Stephano. Just to win tournaments? EG couldn't care less about the actual tournaments, they care about associated exposure of their brand and their sponsors brand. This does not mean that it is not a sport or that it is 100% politics. Stephano would be much more valuable to EG if he acted professionally, and not as he did with millenium where he was treated as Mill's boss.
