Depends on where in the states. New england it's lower middle class/upper lower class. Mountain, and southern rurally states would actually be more upper middle class. I make about $40,000 a year and barely broke into the middle class. Connecticut though, so it's super expensive to live here.
thanks. First time I hear of Richard but loved the article. Accountability is something that is very important in all aspects of life, not just esports and I think it's expected of those that make promises. If you can't fulfill the promise, apologize and explain why. No need to hide it and hope it blows over.
I read it and I felt he painted with a really wide brush. He lumped a lot of people together with varying levels of communication. But I do get his point, but I felt he handled the backlash really poorly. He shouldn't have played the victim, since he knew he was calling out some popular teams.
I never read any of his previous articles but I felt he hit several points and talked about the backlash by a couple of people(totalbiscuit, incontrol etc...).

Back in March it was announced over Twitter that filming was to be finished in the following days and then the film would go into complete post production mode.
But the Artosis quote in the article says " Do you know how long it takes to make a documentary? He filmed me recently and we have a little more coming up. by the way, state of play took 4 years, and star nation started before sons of starcraft. This isn't abnormal. I see him all the time, been filmed a ridiculous amount.
I Don't really wanna talk anymore about it to be honest, sorry. Too many retarded witch hunts. "
" He filmed me recently and we have a little more coming up. "
So assuming this is a recent quote, it means they have in fact not finished filming? But if It's supposed to release at Blizzcon that means it must be done or almost done at this point right? How could they possibly still be filming?
Something doesn't add up.
Maybe they needed to film just a bit more to add into the video?
That is fine, I just think he handled it poorly. Don't be a whiner if you are going to call people out. You are engaging a tough subject and they are going to be defensive. Don't pull out the journalism card like its some shield from angry people you just called out.
Its one of my pet peeves is when people poke the bear and then acted all shocked when it attacks them. Don't get all whiny. Just stand by your work and the facts of your case.
PS: He was also factually incorrect on some stuff with Root, which Catz pointed out. But that was minor.
Maybe he thought that the backlash was more than it should be? Either way, I could care less if he was a whiner about it. His article was on point and gave more information about the film. Having a little emotion in an article is not necessarily a bad thing imo.

Possibly yes, I just have never heard of filming about a month before the release date. Usually all the filming is done first(this takes less time) and the post production is done after that(this takes more time). I'm curious as to what they are filming, if I had to guess It's probably interviews for the ending.
The response of Artosis is exactly the problem with the scene. Everyone deflects responsibility behind "witch hunts" and "pitchforks". As soon as anything negative is said on a subject by a random reddit troll, all legitimate questions and criticism are shut down with "witch hunt".
No, this is not a goddamn witch hunt. Just because some whackaloon in this thread said "I'm going to sue someone" doesn't mean you get to ignore the fact that your friend took forty grand of other people's money and there's no quid in sight for that quo.
The main issue with Sons of Starcraft is not that it's late, but that there is not adequate communication of its status to financial backers. Circling the wagons at this point seems like a bad joke.

Actually they didn't do it out of blind faith. They did it partially on the reputations of Tasteless and Artosis.
Which could have been really stupid, considering the success rate of Artosis-related projects.

I agree. If they overspent and bombed the project... for fucks sake come ot and admit it.
Tastosis had such an impenetrable reputation before but this definitely damages it. When you get donated money for a project you keep the donors informed, it's both common sense and ethical. When the chorus of criticism gets this loud you kinda gotta admit you're wrong.

As people already joked on reddit: Next up on META, witch hunting witch hunts! Also agree wholeheartedly. You don't even need to compare this kickstarter with the other kickstarters to realize how scammy everything reeks by now. And if you compare it to others, the difference is even more clear.

Artosis is really naive in his answer to this question and is deflecting the issue. Most people aren't mad about the doc being late or slow. They're mad at the utter lack of updates given regarding it. If there were regular updates or explanations, then people wouldn't be getting mad. I thought artosis was smarter than this, but I see he's just blinded by his own personal involvement in it and can't see the real issue people have with it and automatically cries witch hunt.

Yep, which is quite sad, because it basically means that when somebody honest tries to use kickstarter with good intentions and enough knowledge to realize his ideas, people will be more reluctant to donate, just because of this one incidence in sc2 involving kickstarter.

I think they will release at or slightly before Blizzcon, perhaps the season 3 finals week. It would make the most marketing/economic sense to get it out before the holiday season and Blizzcon will be their best chance to get the most eyes on it. Artosis would definitely plug it if he is commentating there. Not sure if anything in early 2014 would have near the hype that event would.

It is pretty sad that any criticism of Alejos' handling of this documentary is considered a witch hunt. I wonder where he has read this criticism, perhaps people are even emailing him now. Alejos claimed from the very beginning to want to be open with the community that helped make his dream of moving to Korea to be next to his buddies Nick and Dan and film them. Yet he was hardly that. Given eMG was "representing" him, you knew at some point this thing would come out or they would totally tarnish their reputation, but its pretty pathetic how unprofessional it has been handled the entire time given he is being represented by a "professional" management group.
Regarding EMG(or I guess It's EMA now), they have a new website http://esportsma.com/ , not really sure why they changed the URL instead of just updating the old site. http://esportsmg.com/ is a barren wasteland but for some reason still online.
When you google " Esports Management Group " esportsmg.com is at the top of the list, which of course, leads to nothingness. Even searching for " Esports Management Agency "(the new name I suppose) leads to not having that new website appear on the first page of Google. Kind of weird that they would make a website when no one can easily find it.
To respond to this, a few key people in eMG decided to split ways. Due to the split, the party with the clients was forced to form a new entity and brand (eSports Management Agency).

I agree completely. I didn't think I could be more disappointed in the direction that this has all gone. I posted earlier saying that all I wanted was my poster. This response, directly insulting so many of his fans that just wanted to see the damn thing come out, just has completely turned me away from anything he may be involved in. Speaking only for myself personally, I truly cannot see myself spending money on, for example, the Handsome Nerd. I used to browse it frequently looking for something to pull the trigger on, liking the designs but still waiting for one that I had to have. I knew I'd have one eventually. Not anymore. I am just so disappointed that our valid concerns, concerns that were valid months and months ago, have been waved off in such an insulting manner.
We're not upset over the fact that there have been significant delays. We're not upset over there being no reason behind it. We're upset because there has been not even an attempt at addressing our concerns, and not even the hint at an apology. We're upset that the only reason we have the suggestion that it's coming out at Blizzcon is someone other than the guy actually working on it tweeted it. That's a fucking joke.
It's so bizarre that someone who is normally so good at working his image and branding completely missed the mark on the problems here. Then insulted us to boot. Here's a hint: The people who are still interested in this coming out are those that are still asking about it two years down the road. We hadn't forgotten about it. Frankly, I don't even care if the poster ever arrives now. It's not going up. Every time I'd see it, it'd just be a reminder that I'm clearly nothing but a witch hunting asshole who likes taking down anyone who tries to do someone for the community.
Over two years ago, I made a donation in the hopes of getting a poster signed by two pillars of the SC2 community. Two men that I had nothing but respect for. Funny side note, last time I bumped the thread was because my emails had gone unanswered for weeks. I got a response shortly after that. Good to know what works.

I, too, really liked Tastless and Artosis in the infancy of SC2. However the more their true character shone through the worse of a taste it left in my mouth. They really don't seem to care.
Things like: - T: "Everybody SO wants to be best friends with us Artosis!" (I have really never witnessed such an inflated ego, ever) - Publicly ridiculing and shaming some guy who asked for a job as translator (How dare some plebeian not know his place? Better put him in his place on live broadcast.) - Artosis flipping his shit on a practice partner on stream, because the guy was beating him at 1v1 and was clearly more skilled (Then tastosis make thinly veiled insults on live GOMTV broadcast about how even though someone can beat you they are still very bad and stupid. I felt bad for him.) - T: "Supernova? More like SUBPARnova!" (Tasteless? More like Tactless.) - "Someone made a mistake! SNARF! SNARF!" (Come on, it's supposed to be commentary not a comedy channel roast)
Granted Artosis seems to be better at putting on his mask and acting nice, but you can see the veil slip up when he gets asked about things like this documentary.

Before reading this, I had empty hands and some disappointment. Today, I have more disappointment, and have been insulted for being interested in what's going on. Thanks for that.
I can't help but think the SOTG/Meta break was primarily due to Artosis. JP comes across as such a genuinely nice guy, and Artosis comes across as petty, greedy, and mean spirited.
Not sure if some of the finest trolling I have ever seen or somebody who doesn't get tastosis at all.
What am I not "getting"?
Anyway I wasn't trying to bash or offend anyone who still really likes them. You can be a fan of whoever you want. I was just mentioning some key moments that made me, personally, change my opinion of them.
The topic of this thread is sort of just the icing on the cake. They (ab)used their notoriety to get their fans to pay one of their friends a large sum of money for a project he is apparently in over his head on, and had no track record to prove he was up to the task. Then instead of holding his feet to the fire for the sake of their fans--who they actively solicited money from--they instead trash anyone who dares ask questions. It's clear where their priorities are: themselves and their friends.
I think the problem with Tastosis (Tasteless especially) is that they're so out of tune with the sentiments of the community. Although it's true that we're mostly drama mongers, a lot of times we bring up perfectly legitimate arguments and feedback, many of which even back in the glory days of GSL Tasteless would take out of context and bash during his cast. It seems things haven't really changed.
You also have to look into the initiatives that these two have done and see that a lot of it start out strong/pretty good and they end up fading out very quickly. It almost seems like there's no commitment to a cause. I understand that it's because they're both busy people/want time to do their own thing. But isn't that the reason they hired eMG?
Which brings me to my next point, aside from negotiating sponsorships and deals, what exactly does eMG do for its clients? And for the eSports scene in general.
