After all the shit went down and Unfiltered covered it I had to read it and damn SC2 is really unprofessional. The "tiers" in the SC2 scene is so blatantly showed and the links between certain people...
Never saw Tumba to be a big jackass but holy tits!

So assuming this is a recent quote, it means they have in fact not finished filming? But if It's supposed to release at Blizzcon that means it must be done or almost done at this point right? How could they possibly still be filming?
Something doesn't add up.
Ofc it doesn't add up.
The "oh we finished filming" have been pushed and pushed again and again! ^^ If it's actually released at Blizzcon I would be surprised, I heavily doubt a random guy would get the stage at Blizzcon to debut his documentary.
And because of the time passed by, there should be at least 20events that theres footage from, it's going to be a big mess to edit all that stuff. Expectations will be shattered.

They could have the entire thing blocked out, but they need to film a bit more because they want to wrap is up with a follow up or something. They can be done editing, but have a few more scenes to shoot. Its not binary.

Blizzcon is in a month, so you can all set your alarms.

This doesn't seem to follow the order of operations when making a film that I've read elsewhere. I just find it odd the last real update they gave says " done filming " but then we find out they're still filming 6 months later. Maybe the whole thing is done and they're just adding current timeline interviews for the ending or something though(if we had real updates then I wouldn't have to speculate like this).

Yeah, he hasn't been providing good updates, but it is coming out. At the end of the day, not everyone is good at this kickstarter thing. Still, here is hoping that the film is good and we can forget about all this crap after it is out.
Really, I hear there was a bunch of SC2 played today and its a bummer that this stuff is everyone's focus.

PS: He was also factually incorrect on some stuff with Root, which Catz pointed out. But that was minor.

whether this film gets released at blizzcon or not, this was handled completely unprofessional (as expected). its a shame that because of shitfests like this that i can't take this seriously. although it, at least, has a proven track record.

Possibly yes, I just have never heard of filming about a month before the release date. Usually all the filming is done first(this takes less time) and the post production is done after that(this takes more time). I'm curious as to what they are filming, if I had to guess It's probably interviews for the ending.

I think they will release at or slightly before Blizzcon, perhaps the season 3 finals week. Called it. Just sad it takes a journalist digging into it to get some sort of comment on the release date. As opposed to the creator contacting his backers on kickstarter, you know, since they were the ones to gave him this once in a lifetime opportunity.

It is pretty sad that any criticism of Alejos' handling of this documentary is considered a witch hunt. I wonder where he has read this criticism, perhaps people are even emailing him now. Alejos claimed from the very beginning to want to be open with the community that helped make his dream of moving to Korea to be next to his buddies Nick and Dan and film them. Yet he was hardly that. Given eMG was "representing" him, you knew at some point this thing would come out or they would totally tarnish their reputation, but its pretty pathetic how unprofessional it has been handled the entire time given he is being represented by a "professional" management group.

Good stuff by Richard Lewis, need more guys digging for stories and less fluff pieces. Especially love the part about Artosis getting all defensive when questioned, seems like they dont like being held accountable. Bah, a little disheartening but at the same time, not surprising.
Great article, goes to show how juvenile a lot of the scene still is.
I can't help but imagine stuff like this will always stunt the growth of the industry, when content producers make financial backers wait an entire year for a single update.

Regarding EMG(or I guess It's EMA now), they have a new website http://esportsma.com/ , not really sure why they changed the URL instead of just updating the old site. http://esportsmg.com/ is a barren wasteland but for some reason still online.
When you google " Esports Management Group " esportsmg.com is at the top of the list, which of course, leads to nothingness. Even searching for " Esports Management Agency "(the new name I suppose) leads to not having that new website appear on the first page of Google. Kind of weird that they would make a website when no one can easily find it.
Oh by the way it seems NesTea is no longer part of EMG, or at least not listed on their new site http://esportsma.com/meet-our-clients/.

There's no shame in saying "we didn't get what we expected and needed to film some more" or "editing is taking a while because we don't know what the fuck we're doing" or even "We've hit one hell of a roadblock and are re-evaluating what we're doing".
I'd love to see a kickstarter campaign where those who made contributions could file legitimate claims on provided funds. I know it would be a pain in the ass but until there's a legit reason for these kickstarted programs to worry about adequately doing their job as they themselves outlined, this kind of thing is going to happen again.
But to be fair, I have no idea what kind of updates they said they'd provide. I'm making assumptions that the backers of this documentary weren't ignorant enough to put thousands of dollars collectively on blind faith that this documentary would get made and would be good without some form of progress updates planned.
I hope it's shown at blizzcon and I hope it rocks because I'm sure as hell not going to put my money down on something like this in the future after this shitstorm. I doubt I'm in the minority of people that think that (though I'm sure I'm in the silent majority if anything).
|
I previously was critical of those criticizing the director in this thread, but now I can see there comes a point where people are going to ask questions about why the director hasn't provided an update. To not provide simple updates after being donated money on kickstarter is, simply put, unprofessional.
After reading that article from Richard I really have to commend him for writing it and exposing the hostility he received for questioning these things. It's pretty clear that people got defensive over something that affects their self-interest. To call any questioning of Jeff's lack of updates to the community (which would take 5 minutes if that) a "retarded witch hunt" is approaching dishonesty.
