Just posted a few minutes ago, Chris Sagiaty blogs about clarifying the availability of new HotS features for WoL players. He also talks about his experience watching tournaments with his boys, which is pretty cute to read.
In our last blog post, we outlined several upcoming online features we’re working on, including clans and groups, global play, resume from replay, multiplayer replay viewing, unranked matchmaking, and language packs. Since then, we've seen some speculation on whether the features would be exclusive to Heart of the Swarm or available to Wings of Liberty players. We want to clarify that all of these features will be available to BOTH Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm owners. You will not be required to purchase Heart of the Swarm to get the benefits of these features.
The best part was the next morning when the boys woke up. They played in the family room, madly clicking their fingers on pretend keyboards and mice proclaiming, “I’m Marine King Prime and I’m totally destroying your units” and, “I’m Stephano.” Despite the fact that they did not really understand the game, they felt the excitement all the same and found new sports heroes – eSports heroes. The whole thing was totally amazing and fascinating to me because it's hard to imagine this scene happening outside of Korea ten years ago, five years ago, or even two years ago. Here I was, witnessing the growth of eSports’ impact and accessibility first-hand.

Really shocking to see that they'll make all these features available for both games, I never expected that from blizzard. Though I doubt wol will get any of those features before hots is out anyways... I would really love to see them put atleast resume from replay into 1.5, as we needed that feature when the game came out.
Other than that a lot of nothingness, I really hoped he would atleast hint at a beta start date...
@underme: You do realize that he just said that you don't need to buy hots to get those features?

I don't understand why they don't implement these features NOW. I am not buying HotS because of these features, I am buying the game because I love SCII. I stopped loving Blizzard because this kind off bullshit. They delay the most basic features like clans, global play, shared replay viewing and cetera, so that people buy their expansions. While they should just give us the features right now because we, the current players, is what is keeping SCII e-sports scene alive.
tldr: Blizzard priority to their custumers/fans and Esport scene is pathetic low compared to their greed for our money. Which is pathetic.

Because not all of them are done? They're not using these features a bullet point to sell their expansion, he just said that they're going to be for both games when they're done.

I'm not surprised, these are battle.net features, not SC2 features. Everyone will be buying HotS anyway though if they actually care about the game.

You should look into things before judgeing something. For example at WoW, even vanila wow got the upgrades that came with time

Great to hear that the features will be available for both WoL and HotS.
Although, I would have liked global play being added at the beginning, it is coming now at least.
Just feel sorry for everybody who bought several accounts to compete in EU/NA tourneys.

Not shocking at all. If we look at Blizzard's last expansions, the 3 WoW expansions, all game systems are available to everyone. The only thing that is exclusive to expansions is new content, in this case new campaign and new units.

Because it's marketing. Taking good things away and then adding them, so more players will love them and more buys will come.
If everything was been from release, no one will react to that or take attention, that there are tons of good features.

Awesome news! Even though this is logical to happen anyway, in these days one would expect producers to cling on to the most new features they can to promote their new product...
