While Blizzard is indeed a big company that makes a lot of money I doubt they have the kind of money to "bribe" or "bully" KESPA/OGN into broadcasting SC2 instead of BW.
KESPA/OGN are not idiots without business sense, they probably think that as things are now there is more demand for SC2 content than for BW content, so they went for the more commercial potential.
And yeah this was a pure business decisions, as much as we would like to think otherwise KESPA and OGN are just looking out for their interests. Had SC2 been a horrible FLOP worldwide no matter how much "bullying" and "bribing" Blizzard had done this wouldn't have happened.
Not saying that SC2 is to blame, nor Blizzard, nor nobody. Its more like, unfortunately, BW doesn't have as much commercial potential as more modern games.
Well, OGN just had their LoL tournament where they had English casters, so maybe they are trying to reach viewers outside of Korea, where SC2 is a lot more popular than BW.

Wow, Brood War is really taking it's last breaths. Should be interesting seeing KeSPA vs GSL players though.
|
I wonder if the winner of the current OSL will be seeded into the next one. If no kespa players get seeds I wonder if any of them will be able to qualify.

i have no words, i'm so sad...

at the momnent it feels to strange cause its to early ... i dont think that more then perhaps 1 kespa player can make it in if even 1 ... all others will be gsl because sorry but the kespa players have a lot more work to do seeing proleague

I doubt how many GSL players will participate in this.

Changes are good , you wanna watch BW whole life ? With the same graphics , same players etc etc ? Things must evolve , deal with it.
Um, yes?!

I was super excited to see all the pros switching over to SC2, but now the fact that BW is 100% done in just a few more short months... really hurts me to swallow this fact.
Sad, but happy to see the future.

really sad that bw is finally dying :/ guess we will never get to see toss return to power in bw ever again

Death of BW, but those hardcore fans may still be able to live vicariously through the SC2 OSL ♥
Same format and everything???

With MSL gone it was pretty expected to see OSL either disappear or convert to SC2. I'm glad they're setting up for the future, but sad to see BW and all of its history have to stop here

Now we only need a joined ProLeague/GSTL and bam, GomTV has replaced MBCGame and all is well =)

sc2 will never succeed in asia where games are dominantly all f2p model. Asians from this generation just don't buy games and softwares (Japan excluded)
Most people are not going to watch a game they don't own/play, and why would anyone invest $60 into a game they have no experience on when everything else is free? Its akin to paying for water in a restaurant.

Of course it will not reach the popularity like BW in 2003. Now there are just so many choices of esports. In 2003, Korea, there was just BW, one game, and it was the first game for esports in Korea. But now in Korea and every other country, you have LOL, Dota2, SF2, BW, SC2, and all sorts of games for esports. So each game definitely has a much smaller scene than the good old time when there was just one game. However, GSL already reaches my definition of success even though it's nothing compared to BW in 2003. But it's still a successful tournament, and that it's enough.
