The older BW grows, the less they will want to back it up, and this is amplified by the decreasing ratings happening for the last few 2/3 years. It's sad but "new technology" is probably more valuable to them than "better competitive game". Brood War is nothing is there is no longer a PL or an OSL, sadly, and the backing of these companies is everything. So this guy, despite the offensive manner in which he's saying things, is probably right. The other games mentioned by people, baseball, chess, or even go etc, are not riding on the back of those companies, and are outside the field of technological innovation, hence don't have this kind of problem. look up Kodak recently, and what happened to them when they failed to be pionneers in electronic imagery. Ugh. Well actually im not, and no one with a brain would say that there is no financial gain to be had from backing SC2 over BW. Its an obvious fact. But CocaCola sponsors tons of stuff that has nothing to do with soft drinks or food. But thats not even the point, im not arguing that SC2 sucks at all i love it, im watching it right now. I play mostly SC2 these days. What is pissing me off are people who think in absolutes, like newer is better etc etc. Thats a fucking lie man. And every single one of these trolls knows exactly what they are doing when they come in here and say stuff like "its getting old" or "evolve or die" etc etc. They are obviously trying to piss people off. Thats what bothers me. Ill agree all day that financially SC2 is a better bet. But, in saying that, that has absolutely nothing to do with which game is better or takes more talent, or which game deserves to be "killed off". If SC2 fans want to cite finance as a reason for SC2 to get the jump on BW thats fine. But to bury it alive over something like "graphics" or "its old" is just dumb and not even really a valid argument. Its also pretty damn insulting. Im fine with SC2. But many people here arent. And they dont want to see BW stopped. So yeah, i think its pretty bad to come into the forum and spout BS like that. No one will ever claim that refusing to evolve or whatever you want to call it is wise. But BW is not a tool. It is not a car. It is not a hammer. It is not a surgical device. It is an art form. Art forms do not go out of style within the context of the person creating the art. Some teenage idiot might not "get" fine art but that dont make it any less difficult to create, or any less meaningful to the creator and those who do admire it. Games are not tools. The only time they are a tool is when they are used to make money for companies. But i dont know how much i can give respect to someone who says "your game sucks, not because it has worse gameplay, but because it makes companies less money through sponsorships". Thats all that you can really say about BW. And i dont think it or its fanbase should have to apologize for being superior in practically every possible way EXCEPT for its ability to sell sponsors products in 2012. No shame in that at all if you ask me.

No shame in that at all if you ask me. That's the internet for you :p There are trolls on both sides, and they won't go away ![]() As for me, I consider a few other games to be art, single player ones in fact (Planescape torment, BG2, Total Annihilation and Fallout1/2 namely), but for Starcraft, I thoroughly enjoyed it every day of the way, and I'd rather it died a few months ago than see it wither, and have to endure all the shitstorms and dumb wars going on everywhere and hurting the memory I'll keep of it. I'd have preferred that memory to stay warm, fuzzy and clean like the ones I got from the other games I told of. The games are wonderful, what goes around is awful, mostly due to diehard fans of either games. (and the idiot decision from some companies, first and foremost)

Reading this thread is a total eye sore. I think there is a lot of you who don't really understand the implications of a Pro League where two completely different games have an effect on the overall results of the league. It's bush league. You would be taking one of the oldest and most prestigious leagues in gaming and turning it into a non-sensical one. Anyone remember the results of SF/BW League? Yeah, it would be deja vu all over again. If you are a fan of any game. I don't see how you cannot be against such an idea. It sounds like they're trying to work around scheduling constraints more than anything else by putting the two together in one package. As it stands right now, the current PL for BW was down to 5 games during the regular season. The games flew right by. I don't know why they cannot attempt to have two separate leagues under a similar format. This feels severely pinched. If you look at the comments in the BW thread with regards to the rumors you would realize a lot of the purists are suggesting to just do a SC2 PL instead because we don't want to hinder the competitions results because it feels forced. They are trying to target the BW audience but this is by no means the right way to gain the exposure. We're better off doing showmatches prior to the actual BW PL or just do a SC2 PL.

Sure BW is better in many parts then sc2 but I think with increased skill levels in sc2 and hopefully a good expansion sc2 can be fixed and be made even better then BW (which is not some holy game imo just the best competitive rts made).

Doesn't matter. If they're having a hard time finding new sponsors then there's really nothing else they can do about it. If a game gets really big, they cannot ignore it either.

Extreme analogies dont help anyone.
