Anyone else come across this issue while playing SC2?
My second monitor is on the right. During a game, I try to mouse scroll to the right and, suddenly, the mouse jumps to my second monitor. No mouse scrolling takes place, and I have to alt-tab out of the game, then back in it, to temporarily fix the issue.
Details and troubleshooting notes:
+ Show Spoiler + This happens on both windowed and full-screen mode.
Changing the Confine Mouse Cursor settings from Automatic to On has no effect. The mouse still escapes the screen.
Having Windows Key or Alt-tab disabled makes no difference. I usually leave alt-tab enabled, though, to be able to fix the issue when it occurs. The problem isn't with the app losing focus to key presses.
I've also excluded the possibility of this being caused by another application stealing focus. I've reinstalling the OS (Win 7 Ultimate) and run with no active applications, including no A/V and minimal enabled services. The issue occurs at random, reliable intervals and only when using two monitors.
Things work normally in most games for a few minutes, then the mouse escapes one time and I'm stuck without mouse-scroll in that direction until I use the alt-tab trick.
It's very repeatable and occurs every game within the first few minutes.
I can still scroll with the keyboard arrows or by clicking around the mini-map. It's just mouse-scrolling by moving the mouse to the edge in the righthand-direction that's broken.
The problem isn't just because my mouse leaves the screen. I can forcibly trap the mouse within the monitor or an area of the game using a variety of programs like MultiMon. But the issue where I'm stuck without mouse-scrolling still occurs, even though the cursor remains in the screen the whole time.
This is a graphics card or driver related issue. Dual monitor worked just fine with my old, stuttery graphics card. I'm on a Radeon 6850 now, and have tried a few (at least 3) sets of different drivers to no avail.
My workaround right now is to disable the second monitor screen before I play, then reenable it afterwards. This is a pain because I always forget to disable it until I'm in the middle of a game. Or I just leave it off for weeks at a time, defeating the point of a having second monitor.
Random details: Monitor sizes are 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 1024. One over HDMI the other DVI. Same as I used before this graphics card. I usually play on Ultra 1920 x 1080, but I've tried High and Medium without it helping the issue.
My most preferable solution would be pointing to a graphics driver that works (I'm on the latest now). Second to that would be patching SC2 in some way. I wouldn't mind getting a third-party program to fix this, but just mouse-trapping on one monitor doesn't help. Lastly, as a work-around, I wouldn't mind if SC2 or a batch file that kicks off SC2 just disables my second monitor while I have the game open. Anything, really, to fix the issue and allow me to preserve my current set up while not playing SC2.
EDIT: I cross-posted this to Blizzard's tech support forum. But I'm not expecting a whole lot beacuse of the quantity of similar posts already there that were either not answered or seemed to be fixed by the suggestions you all have already described. Maybe opening a tech support ticket will help? I'm also considering posting to AMD's forums to see if they can offer any help. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

I used to have this issue. What fixed it for me was going to Options>controls then changing "confine mouse cursor" from "automatic" to "on"
|
Even with the proper options, this can occur if you are frantically tabbing while sc2 is open.
Just refrain from tabbing so much especially with applications that require a full screen
|
i had this problem briefly, but my solution was simply to open the options menu, then hit okay, and change nothing

Happens some times when I alt tab a lot. If I alt tab out and back in it fixes it.
|
Yeah, its happens to me sometimes. Just alt+tab again and make sure you are definitely alt+tabbed and then click on your starcraft icon again or if you're in window mode, just click starcraft. Or just like the poster above if you already haven't has those settings.

I just retested it to make sure, but changing the Confine Mouse Cursor settings from Automatic to On has no effect. Thank you for the suggestion.

Alt-tabbing out of the game isn't the issue. Once the game itself pops up, I'll go straight into playing. The problem occurs within a few minutes no matter what. Then, when I alt-tab back out and in to temporarily fix the issue, it re-occurs a few minutes later. About 4-5 times per game with 100% repeatability. Opening and closing settings, sadly doesn't fix the issue. Iv'e been dealing with it for months so it's not a one-off thing. Also, I have Windows Key disabled.
|
This can also occur if other applications open during the time that sc2 is open, such as messages from skype, steam, etc
|
It's not because of another app stealing focus. I've reinstalling the OS (Win 7 Ultimate) and run with no active applications, including no A/V and minimal enabled services. The issue occurs at random, reliable intervals and only when using two monitors.
|
I have also seen it occur when a error message or a warning message from windows os pops up, such as a warning that an update is available or that you currntly have no firewall isntalled
|
yeah, it's some sort of bug that usually is okay after you alt tab and click back into sc2 (doesn't keep doing it - haven't pinpointed exactly what causes it yet).

This happens to me on my triple monitor setup. I just hit the windows key then click on SC2 and it fixes it. It's been like that for over a year.

I'll have to try this.
As it stands, I just hit the windows key and then reselect the starcraft screen, works pretty well for me.

But it occurs multiple times per game. And since I don't use mouse scroll except during engagements while kiting and whatnot, the problem always occurs (or is first noticed) in the middle of a micro battle. Can be pretty brutal to the results of a battle. Makes more sense for me to just permanently remove the second monitor. I'm posting here to see if I can avoid that option.

like a few other have said, when it happens to me I just alt+tab back to SC and it works properly again.

As in, it happens without you minimizing/changing primary windows?

had the same issue. only thing that worked for me was to unplug the second monitor.
|
This happens every single time I alt tab out of sc2.
The solution for me is just to go to options and hit apply. Fixes instantly.

FOR ME THIS WORKS: I use the Fullscreen-Windowed mode (easier to alt-tab anyway), and if I alt tabbed somewhere, I just hit windows button and click on the starcraft screen -> mouse not trapped anymore. Since your game doesnt get minimalized it shouldnt hurt your game too much, especially since hitting the windows key is pretty fast.
Why not use the Fullscreen-Windowed anyway?
