To clarify a few things, yes, this problem occurs even if I've never minimized the SC2 window after its been opened. And clicking "options" then "cancel" doesn't help things. Per Giku's advice, I'll look towards possibly playing fullscreen windowed so, when it does happen, I don't have to actually minimize then reopen the SC2 window. That still doesn't solve the issue. And I can deal with the dark screen and lack of direct gamma control.

Make sure you don't have any games running on background.

Since your game doesnt get minimalized it shouldnt hurt your game too much, especially since hitting the windows key is pretty fast. Why not use the Fullscreen-Windowed anyway? happens in Windowed-Fullscreen as well.

Also it could have been, that someone found out a certain configuration that fixes this problem here on TL. So your post doesn't contribute anything

So your post doesn't contribute anything Maybe we're experiencing a different bug, alt tabbing in and out, taking less than a second in full window mode is considered a big problem? I have experienced this bug or similar as i alttab very often with other games and sc2 handles it extremely well

Holy cow, not even blizzard is that audacious! :o P.S: thanks for all the hints in this topic, now I know what to do next time I encounter that error.
