Koreans only like LoL because it has the color scheme of a rainbow on LSD.

I doubt that that will change with OGN. There would be no point in Blizzard offering OGN a contract then. Oh, they are trying. Especially with LoL at their heels, they need to. I just don't believe that this will be able to change the korean SC2 scene, at least permanently. Main income for Blizzard regarding SC2 is still box sale. Korea accounted for around 50% of worldwide copy sells of Starcraft 1. Just because of its popularity and deep ingraining in Korean culture. Thats a big portion of a pie, and i believe Blizzard not informing how well SC2 was received in Korea makes me think it was rather low. They finally understood that postering Seoul and buying out an advert on a Plane is not a way to go. Too little, too late, if you ask me. Besides, SC2 in Korea for me just feels so... artificial. It's propped up by outside support and I doubt OGN will be able to change Korea's mentality. There's a high possibility that too many Koreans just don't find SC2 fun to play.
i can tell you what feels artificial, Your post! One look at your posting history and you can see clearly that you are a person that hates starcraft 2 and jumps at every opportunity to bash it.
I mean how can you stand here and say "Oh the scene looks artificial" . Take a look at the sponsors, Westerners feeling they are the main piece of the pie for Gom tv income is laughable.
Sony Ericson, Pepsi, GSkill Ram, Hot Sixx energy drink. I mean how is this any different than samsung sponsoring pro league?
be fucking real come on. If you wanna talk about artificial, talk about league of legends. They buy themselves into every tournament . Now while i would love if every develop does this, Its not a scene that started without Riot heavily investing into the product. I would bet my bottom dollar that Riot paid OGN alottttttttt of money to put LOL on t.v ( i see you praise league of legends alot on your post history) .
IPL 3= LOL buys in MLG = LOL buys in KOREA = LOL buys in
I dunno if you even realize, but since day 1 of starcraft 2 releasing in korea, kespa has been against it because agreements could not be made, Its only recently kespa has started to make deals. With Gomtv getting more and more audiences each time with every gsl final, Its growing slowly but steadily in korea, all for a game that isnt on korean TV as yet. With the expansion the tables will get reset a little so to say , which put the best pros on even ground for a while with some of the broodwar pros and that is when i believe the real Starcraft 2 scene will kick off in Korea, As the first expansion is released and deals are set for sc2. The future looks bright.
I personally believe LOL is a bubble and it will be pulled from tv within 1 1/2 years for low ratings in korea after the novelty wears off.

Who says they won't? I believe kespa won't stop them from entering. They should know sc2 is getting huge outside korea, and why avoid making money if it means people will watch them? The most realisic scenario is: Players/Teams sign exclusive deals with GomTV or KesPa. So MMA/MVP/NesTea will only play for GomTV or KesPa, depending on who pays more/asks first. That would be the worst possible scenario as it would just mean that brood war fans will be forced to watch an "inferior" game whereas the SC2 scene on the whole would not really profit. On the other hand, if all teams (BW and SC2) would play both SC2 ProLeague and GSL, then this would be incredibly awesome! I hope SO MUCH that KeSPA won't put exclusive licences on their players!! I actually think this might be happening, realized all gstl teams now wear gomtv patches on their jerseys this season?

you can never be a superstar like boxer in LoL. it may have great casual viewership, but it won't actually become a cultural phenomenon like BW.
i don't think any game will rival the golden age of BW. SC2 had that potential, but the game itself was fudged up badly.

Looking forward to this! Hopefully it'll make starcraft 2 more popular in Korea.

so now we will see if the elephant argument are true or not, exciting!

I would hate that. GOM TV has done a tremendous job. They have upped their game, listend to users wishes, gone international, opened up to foreigners and so on. They deserve support from Blizz!

This thread has reinvigorated the BW vs. SC2 rivalry. Which is good, it shows we care. (And on a side-note, the few LoL posters who've been trying to hijack this tread (and forum) got completely ignored and steamrolled, I like that).
As for my 2cents, I enjoy both leagues and I hope we can find a place for both of them in our StarCraft Universe. Broodwar has a rich history and that will not be denied or forgotten. I think the most rational thinking SC2 Fan knows, that without Star1 there would be no SC2.
I support the StarCraft franchise as a whole.

Well, its about time really. OGN and GOM can co-exist, its not like OGN was running an monopoly over BW. It ran alongside MBCGame and things seemed more or less fine.
The problem is whether or not KeSPA will have any governing powers over SC2 players in Korea or will it only govern OGN. This shouldn't effect GOM very much either way, as OGN is catered to Korea but GOM to the international scene. And then there's the lingering question of it they'll drop BW (which is suicidal) and many other goddamn questions.
It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. Need to move in quickly before LoL establishes too big of a foothold in Korea for SC2 to compete.

if OGN sticks with korean only casts I doubt that they will be able to get good viewer numbers.

OH plz Blizzard/Kespa/OGN and everyone else involved, make it happen!!!!

Just so you know, BW started of as a test drive to increase TV viewers on a children channel. That's originality.
Blizzard payed publishers/critics/authors to make their game look good in the media, did flashy stuff in a plane that was handled by a company that was sponsoring a prestigious BW tournament at that time, Made SC2 accessible for koreans for a fee and they even tried to stop the broadcasting of BW by OGN/MBC.
Kespa never said they liked SC2 from day 1, infact they tried to negotiate and renegotiate with Blizzard.
Also, your post has this SC2 elitism. too. This is like pot calling the kettle 'black'.

Sometime accessible mean less depth atleast imo. It's about how you make it accessible.

Did anyone else think of the "Mother of god" meme when reading the topic title? xd But seriously, HUGE news to come from Blizzard. This might be the end of the current Status Quo of SC2 players if BW proleague finishes and everyone switches over to SC2. Most of them would drop out but a lot of new Korean fans would be injected into the scene

Proleague format is just boring. King of the hill provides good storylines with epic combacks and all-kills. Also i bet kespa wont provide english commentary coz they are potatoworkors.
