This is actually really good and to get really interesting people. Well done.

Wow this is awesome! Great post.
|
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Good job JoJo and thanks Neil!
|
So awesome. What a cool person to interview =) Thanks so much JoJo. Him doing the Tychus voice made me shiver Xd
|
Waw this is awsome, gona listen to the weekend.
|
Tychus good night still gives me the nerd chills. I didn't realize how much I really liked good old Tychus until this interview, actually motivated me to replay campaign and finally do it on brutal.
|
I'd be so down to subscribe to MLG arena if this guy announced it!
|
I gave Neil the link to this thread, he will be delighted to see what you guys wrote
|
I love Tychus, that voice is so different from his natural voice though!!! Good stuff, I would have rewritten alot of scenes too after hearing him, he was the absolute perfect person to play Tychus.
|
Thanks for getting the recording up so quick!
Neil Kaplan is obviously a perfect guest, really talkative and happy to show off his voice acting talents, really great stuff, great work Jojo and thanks Mr Kaplan!
|
Wow, Really nice interview and the Tychus good night was freaking awesome! I really hope Neil and Robert get to some tournament to do some cool player announcing.
|
Awesome, thanks to the both of you <3.

Wow, that was very interesting and insightful , thank you very much JoJo and Neil!

A look into the awesome voice actors... Hell, its about time!
|
Huh, that was a really cool look into the job and the character from an actor's point of view. Also, having heard mr Clotworthy before, that cast seems to have been an awesome bunch of people. Thanks a lot for the interview :D

Typo in the OP by the way: Crispin Freeman is an extremely successful voice actor who has been in a ton of video games as well as animes. I know Namco hired him for a bunch of different titles over the years.
|
i hope the plot goes like this, raynor shot tychus to fake his death, and resuscitate him after they remove the prison suit. so, in HOTS we will have tychus without the suit..

Has been fixed! Thanks for pointing that out. I have to agree with you and will go with Neil's words, "he is a supernova" [in the Anime industry].

Love the interview, Tychus/Neil is awesome.
I was wondering why the audio levels were so different when Neil was talking and when you were asking questions? I actually had to turn up the volume to hear you sometimes, then turn it down for Neil lol.

great interview! looking forward to more

Thanks for the feedback. I had my system volumes up too much and it was pointed out by a live viewer to me as well. It was alright if I was close to the microphone but as you might have noticed I didn't always move close enough. That won't happen again.

Great interview. I liked the new angle on the Tychus death story.

I am thoroughly convinced that Tychus is not dead and will be in HotS but I don't think it'll be that easy. Please note that I do not have any information regarding that! These are speculations.

Great interview! Amazing how his voice changes when he goes into Tychus mode!
|
Excellent interview and impressive get.
|
that guy is purely amazing. not only his voice but also what he says
|
Nice and insightful. Thanks for the post.
I was surprised at just how far he had developed Tychus as a character in his own mind. I suppose that is a helpful thing to do with voice acting.
|
Really interesting and enjoyable email.
|
its a pity this is probably gonna max out at 600 views. Good content, and impressive that you could come up with enough questions to fill an hour

oooh his voice doesnt sound like tychus at all TT

I didn't expect that at all. I immediately tried the technique he explained after the interview. Well... let's say it didn't nearly sound as great as I hoped it would

It made me appreciate every single moment of the campaign so much more. I actually replayed it 3 times after my first interviews with the voice actors. I enjoyed every single line. You catch so much more when you pay attention to the little things that are conveyed in the voices.

Haha... I was actually quite surprised when he talked about being the only American born Optimus Prime. First of all I didn't know that and second of all I found it quite interesting that he took so much pride in that
|
He meant himself actually when he said he was the only American born actor to play Optimus.
|
On February 29 2012 12:38 StarStruck wrote: He meant himself actually when he said he was the only American born actor to play Optimus.
Yeah I know! But he seemed to find it quite peculiar that that is the case. (that there is only one American-born Optimus Prime)
Edit: With regards to Peter Cullen, here's an excerpt from the Optimus Prime Wikipedia page:
Prime once again leads the Autobots against the Decepticons. His voice actor, Neil Kaplan, does his voice in a style reminiscent of that of Peter Cullen, the voice of the original Optimus Prime
|
I guess I got lost in the transition, lol. Guess I shouldn't be multitasking when I'm trying to make final notes. o;
Okay, compared to the first one I would say this one is more full circle. Sure, there's a lot of overlap but that will happen regardless. Neil's done so many interviews so a lot of what he says is going to feel rehearsed, but we did manage to get a few golden nuggets out of him this time around and the catchline for the OP will make those who are interested in the lore check it out.
Great formatting making it easier for anyone to follow. Overall stand-up job. My only recommendation would be to follow-up more on current events and trends in the industry like SOPA. In interviews the questions are always about themselves so to keep it fresh and new try to keep it current like you just did.
45-60 minutes is the perfect length for an interview. You really don't want to go over that and it was bang on. Once again great flow and transitions.

I think I remember you submitting a question and I think it made it into the interview.

He only said he was shot. Doesn't necessarily mean he's dead. Jojo tried to get it out of him once again. Have to wait and see!

He was shot at... distinct difference.

I actually got a lot out back then. But the answer in that (older) interview might actually have spoiler potential. I, personally, have a very clear prediction whether or not Tychus is dead. If you really want to, check out the old interview (referred to at the bottom of the OP, I think it is at the beginning of the second video of that interview).
However, Neil only said that Tychus was shot at in this interview, so no revelation about HotS. He can obviously not reveal anything.
|
Woah. The Tychus getting shot part. It makes so much sense now. Amazing interview. Thanks a lot JoJo <3.

It's been a while since I've seen it in it's entirety, so I cannot remember the specifics. I recall him hinting at some things like the possibility of flashbacks and I cannot remember the rest. Looks like I'll have to revisit it again.
Yup. "depends on how he survives... obviously, you know what I'm not even going to go there."
Rest of the conversation is very thorough.

Wow that guy is such a solid speaker, it was a treat to hear him talk. Nice interview.

This is really nice, but you really have to speak to the mic, not somewhere in it's general direction. It's kinda hard to find a nice balance in volume between your voice and your guest's. Since he's loud and you're damn quiet. Other than that I really did enjoy the show.

Yup! Won't happen again. Thanks for the feedback

wow, ever since i beat the campaign i thought jimmy shot tychus hearlessly purely because of his own selfish desire to save a murderous women that he things he loves, but now i know it goes much deeper then that.
tychus was def one of my favs in the campaign, so its nice to get a deeper insigt on why he was shot. cant wait for HoTS to see if tychus is officialy dead or not. they kind of did a cliff hanger with him, they didnt show his body at all so maybe they faked his death to save him and kerrigan.

Nice interview. It really sheds some light on both voice acting and the Tychus character. I hope the character isn't really dead and returns in HotS/LotV (with Neil Kaplan doing the voice of course).

Okay so, for clarity VoiceOfTychus, that video is silly, but its suggestion is epic. There was an community poll (not sure if its linked here) and it had a stunning 91% support last I checked.

Just listened to the interview in full, some really great questions asked never thought of the perspective that Tychus let Raynor finish him. very watchmen-esque with Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan.
Really hope that you guys are seen at some tournaments with some role to fill, would make the experience even better :D

Really hope that you guys are seen at some tournaments with some role to fill, would make the experience even better :D Thank you. That perspective was indeed very interesting as it's not the perspective you would assume as a player of the campaign. From a player's perspective you will always have a Raynor- centric interpretation.
I am working on editing an .mp3 file for this as well as some people have indicated that they'd like to listen to this while commuting.

ahhh, no! Death is good for stories. It helps develop the plot and create a sense of verisimilitude. It always feels cheesy to me when we find out a character "didn't really die."
That being said, it is a shame that Tychus had to be the one that died, even though it was probably the most fitting. He was one of my favorite characters, and the voice acting is of course bad ass.
