Why not? lol... You should see the teamliquid chat channel in game, nothing but racism, sexism, retarded trollings, and spam.

oh and to clearifiy my point, for example idra always! complains about the gamedesign if balance stuff comes up on insie the game and he did so in several interviews last year around release. i think eg just pushed him a little back becasue its bad for players to talk bad about the game you play.

im pretty sure there are way more pros who dislike the game but keep playing because of the money.

This would be a lot of fun, and give you something to work for without needing more then a 4-5 hour commitment whenever you have a free weekend day.

Basically you sign up into a 32 or 64 man bracket and it puts you in to BO1 or BO3 through the bracket. No-shows become walkovers. No cost to enter. Everything is automated with a group chat channel created for the tournament players.

They definitely should do this. In fact it seems incredibly obvious. This would be so much fun. It would be way better than just laddering.

I think he means tournaments where you actually have a chance, not tournaments full of high masters and grandmasters who will crush you in round 1 or 2 of a gigantic tournament bracket. A gold league tournament, or a silver league tournament or a completely random tournament of normal players, not full of pros and semi-pros, would be very enjoyable for most players under the level or masters. As it is there's no reason to join a playhem so a random mid-masters player can crush my platinum heart.

I guess I have to repeat myself because no one reads previous posts lol

You dont have to like the game, it is 100% up to you whether you think the game is good or bad. No one is going to judge you if you try the game, say its bad, and then stop playing, but you dont have to keep pestering the rest of the community with these kinds of comments, no one really cares about your opinion. There are a lot of people in this world that still enjoy this game for one reason or another.

Funner to watch the game then play it. Play customs. Or watch other sports/e-sports.

Games get boring after a while too.

Could be any of these.

Well umm, I'm sorry but there arent any tournaments out there for low league that i know of that offer a cash prize for the winners lol. If you want fun, casual, no prize tournaments for low leagues, try z33k.com. It is kind of confusing the first time you see it, but you will figure it out. There are daily and weekly low league tournaments, some of them actually do offer prizes (the most common being in the form of 1-hour coaching sessions by GM players). Hope this answers your questions. Please ask me anything else if you are having trouble finding things.

Isn't this thread about why people stopped playing? So if he's saying he thinks the game is bad that's completely relevant.

I stopped playing because I generally game with a few online buddies. 2v2's in starcraft are absolutely horrible compared to other RTS games (AoE and CNCG for some quick examples). I still 1v1 every now and then but not too commonly.

How come you've missed Playhem's daily lower league tourneys? Just look at this: http://playhem.com/#!/tourney/18973. If you're complaining about the prize pool that's just silly.

He said that this was a bad game in general. That doesnt really explain much about why he stopped playing 1v1 ladder specificially. If he wants people to relate to his opinion, it would help if he added some reasoning to why he thinks the game is bad. So far all I've been able to gather is that he believes everything idra says, and thats it lol.

Because everyone wants to be hand-fed these kinds of things apparently.

I wonder if these people ever stopped to think about what would happen to all of these communities if blizzard decided to just copy what everyone else was already doing. Those other communities would lose so much attention, and that would "hurt esports" lol

Because 99% of people that buy games nowadays are occasional gamers (from my point of view they aren't even gamers, just people that like to buy stuff they will slightly use, aka victims of consumerism). So, people bought Starcraft 2, played a couple of ladder and then just got bored since they got placed in lower leagues and found out that the game can't be "completed". After all it takes some effort to get better at a game, especially if you never play games for more than a week or so..

I guess they switched to angry birds or something..

When I play I ladder, but it's pretty casually. The game is pretty boring if you play it everyday for hours. Not to mention 50% of the time when I lose I just get BM'd either near the end of the game or after the game. They'll often send me a message and tell me how bad I am. I guess it gives them some sort of satisfaction, not really sure. Guess trolling is just too much fun for some people.

The fact that you can go to a third party organization and play in tournaments is not the same. It should be automated right inside the battle.net interface. Tournaments like this would be hugely popular and very fun if implemented well.

This actually looks pretty cool. I will check it out. But 99% of people won't, because it's not easily accessible within the game. If you go to a poker site you can sign up for a tournament and be playing in a minute or two. It would be a lot of fun if you could do the same on Battle.net. Obviously I'm not looking for any prize fund, just a fun way to play with more variety than ladder.

victims of consumerism... or just have other shit to do and fancy a coupla games every now and then? willing to bet on it being the latter.

anyway i voted interface, if it was more like lol's it would be a million times better, just feels less of a baron wasteland.

To Respond:

Imagine something like the Sit N Go tournaments online poker uses. You just click a button to sign up and when 9-10 people have joined, a 1 table elimination tournament starts. Only 10 people? YES! Larger tourneys are held at scheduled times on the weekend using a similar model.

For SC2, Imagine if 16 person tournaments were implemented this way. You just click a button to sign up. Once 16 people in your division (say gold) have joined then the tournament starts. This could be a BO1. So if you were successful you would play 4 games (RO16, RO8, RO4, Final) which would all mean something and be exciting. If you lose out, well you can just start another tournament attempt or ladder. You are only committing to playing 4 games.
A 32 person 5 game option or a 8 person BO3 option could also be offered, or switched week to week.

This would probably help organizations like Playhem because it would give lots of players experience in a tournament format and interest them to sign up for a 3rd party event.

It would also create lots of opportunities to create new achievements, which blizzard loves to do.

I think it would be really fun and appeal to a wide range of players.

I recently checked out playhem and it is actually a lot of fun, so thank you to the guy who recommended it. Maybe I'm dumb for not knowing about it earlier -- but a lot of ppl are dumb! Putting this right into the interface would be a phenomenal improvement to b.net.
