I had a good amount of fun playing the first 1v1s I've done in a while last night. I went in with the mentality that I don't care AT ALL if I lose and/or get demoted, my goal is to make every game a late-game macro game and to survive for as long as possible (not staying in after I'd obviously lost to prolong it though) As zerg this ends up meaning creep spread everywhere with defences all over and mass expansions. I lost a decent amount more than I won, and a number of times I threw away massive advantages because I was unwilling to do anything but play entirely safe.

It was an interesting experience, as I found I was enjoying the long games, even when I'd lose to some deathball or other because I'm not so caught up on having to win or improve my ladder rank or w/e.

The deathball battles are pretty boring because both players usually just a-move/kite and emp/storm/fungal and the player with the bigger army almost always comes out ahead. I Wish the game was more about positions of seige units, laying traps( spidermines, hold-position lurkers, burrowed banelings) and small skirmishes.

1. If BM bothers you that much block players when you enter a game, although that might get lonely.
2. Dont let losses get you down, win rate doesnt matter if you look at the long run. (getting masters or something)
3. Tell yourself there is no cheese, just builds, and that you should have scouted better. Learn from it and move on.

Anxiety used to bother me and this is what I did to fix it, hope it helps!

Also being the most insensitive person you have ever met on the internet is quite the achievement, so I guess I'll just take it as a compliment or world record or something haha

It's a lot more complicated than that, but A for effort.

Agreed. But if you're constantly harassing or engaging, you can at least push it in that direction.

Like most I agree I use to play ladder 1v1 to play with the pros and at least get up there to get a game with them after doing that then restarting the season all over again I feel its like a never ending cycle and your not really getting anything out of SC2 by playing it over and over again. It just isnt fun anymore and too annoying with most of the complaints we have heard through out the thread so I made the decision to just quit playing SC2 all together for now but still going to follow streams and what not and maybe try it when HOTS comes out but I feel it will be the same, but moving on its just not fun playing anymore.

1v1 playership is down even more in S6. S5 was about 700k. S6 is currently at about 500k.

Depressing stats?

People get tired of games. SC2 is almost two years old. It's impressive that it's still that high.

But as previously discussed; player bases on games like... diablo 2 are nearly as high, a game that is a decade old. The ghost-town thread really nailed why the player base is dwindling.

I think thats a pretty bad attitude to it :D. The battles are only as exiting as you make them. Try microing everything and kiting some units at a time instead of just "move command... a move... move command.. a move. The bigger army doesnt always win either since, infrastructure, positioning and economy will play a huge role in most battles.

In addition. The trap thing you mentioned can be quite dull (not visually though) too. For example with lurkers killing entire armies in seconds and then suddenly the game is over because of what the recieving player will charactesise as a "dumb" mistake.

BroodWar became a classic because it delivered compelling gameplay and spread due to the passion that players had for the game. Perhaps the SC2 bubble is finally bursting. The gameplay doesn't seem compelling enough to keep people playing as new games are released each month.

As the population of gamers moves on, the scene will die out. The biggest factor that will determine the future of SC2 is the next expansion. This really needs to renew the fanbase and hype that seems to be waning.

I disagree. Fewer people are playing 1v1 ladder. Not as much as the original post seems to indicate as season length and other things have changed. It doesn't mean the game is losing popularity, it means that 1v1 ladder is. As something that people watch SC2 is more popular than ever.

I don't wanna be pessimistic, but main stream of IEM had laughable 23-24k viewers, really? with that much investment? TheOddOne and Dyrus in total have the same amount of veiwers in their casual streams. They just sit at home and play the game for fun. I don't see sc2 going anywhere. Sorry.

Personally I would hate to see sc2 go casual and become a easy game. look at league 200k Free to play n easy to learn. Would league of legends have less than 23k viewers if it costs $50 US globally yes.

I dont have any fear of laddering, i find it a ton of fun to do. If i get mad or stressed (which barley happens) i just browse reddit or TL until i feel up to laddering again.
