I'm pretty sure 900 pts is low masters. -.-

I think one of the main reasons people are afraid to ladder is that they think master league is a high level of play. They think you need to practice a lot to keep up or whatever and when they get to masters, they think "I'm so good now!" and try to preserve that feeling. I've seen quite a few people do this..

People should realize master league is just an arbitrary level of skill and nowhere close to being good despite labeled "master". Then you can actually play to get better and try to improve instead of worrying about meaningless ladder ranking.

~1000pts masters puts you in the top 1k masters players in NA, so about the top 10%. You are wrong.

I think if you use up all your BP you already get like 800 pts or somewhere close to that. That top 10% doesn't mean that much. Generally, if you can't match GMs on a consistent basis, you're not high masters.

I love ZvZ actually, I know some protosses that love PvP, and I haven't met a terran that dislikes TvT.

Do not speak for people you do not know.

Maybe next time you get the same MU a couple of times in a row, tell yourself: "Great, I need the practice in this matchup!"
That, or quit playing the game and blame the ladder system, up to you.

this is my thought exactly.

i have no problem only being gold. thats not the reason i stopped playing. the reason is sc2 in bnet just isn't fun. it indeed feels lonely and custom games section is reaaaallly bad.

May I just ask: what exactly does UI stand for? And why is it mentioned so frequently?

A whiny bitch with a loser's attitude will think, "WAHHHH! Too many allins! So fucking lame! This is no fun! I don't want to play anymore! Fuck this stupid shit, I fucking quit!"

News just in: People play videogames to have fun!

"I want to have fun playing videogames, this isn't fun anymore, so I'm gonna play something else", isn't a whiny attitude, it's an incredibly normal attitude. Some people know they're never going to be pro and simply want to have fun, if they stop finding the game fun then they're gonna stop playing.

This is mostly it. After not playing for a month, coming back, I lost to everything. You know what the standard build from terran was? XXX+scv's allin, with only 2/12 of my terran opponents putting down a CC instead. I knew I probably would've lost anyways to a standard build due to rust(lost something like 30 in a row), but really?

People need to realize that at both ends there's a real human being, who doesn't like losing. Losing at the end of a hard fought 30 minute long match? That feels bad, but it's not frustrating, for 25 minutes of the game you were trying very hard to win, and you had fun doing it. Losing like that you ask yourself, what could I have done better? Perhaps I could've made a few more production buildings, or not slacked off on macro, or maybe tried to do something different. Losing in 5 minutes because the other guy decided to grab all his scv's and attack is just flat out frustrating.

User interface. It's everything you interact with, every button, every window, every popup. And quite frankly, in it's current implementation, it sucks.

I don't have ladder fear or am too lazy to improve. And I know it's my mistake if I lose but it's just boring. Dealing with allins simply isn't fun, and not just because of the losing. It's the same shit over and over again, every game.

I play this game for fun, getting better at it comes second, wich is pretty normal if you ask me.

User interface. Basically everything that's not the main screen.

It's kind of used poorly, but people mainly mean the chat system etc.

high master and top master are different, if u match GM on regular basis like you said you are in the top ''tier'' master, high master i would say is top25 of the division, my opinion .

what I enjoy on SC2 is feeling of improving, feeling of victory after struggling. the majority of players stops laddering because they think they are not improving (enough) or they have no idea how to improve or are lazy or not analytical enough. I strongly believe SC2 client could easily tell the main reasons of defeat and advise improvment in 90 % of cases, summary graphs are useless. It's not hard to detect programatically that you didn't scout banshees soon enough, didn't save scans, had bad army composition, was behind in upgrades, your macro was a lot worse than your opponent's, engaged badly, defended drops badly, failed wall in etc. etc. possibilities are countless. imaging battle.net which hints you replay where similar style/build you faced was beaten! imagine how many players would not give up laddering if they were advised well...

Although I'm not one to go on the side of "stop making the game easier" (ala BW player style), I must say I dislike this idea.
Part of getting good is teaching yourself how to criticize your play, you really can't have the game do this for you.
I don't this as a problem in the lower leagues though, maybe hints based on the build orders in comparison to a master level game with the same build orders.

this can be solved by giving advices proportionately to skill. eg. for bronze players after 2 defeats, silver players after 4 defeats, gold players after 8 and so on.

The ranking system is a bit arbitrary, but the ladder system is near perfect. Once you get some games in the ladder system is AMAZING at making you play people around your level (where you go 50% untill you improve).

Of course there is cheese, but in your head you need to say to yourself: "I need to get to the point where I enjoy people cheesing me because it's free ladder points."
Saying: "OMG CHEESERRR!!!" Seems very counter-productive, and I can see why this would make you stop enjoying sc2.

ladder is kinda funny though...i understand when i get opponents that are my league (silver currently) or 1 lower/ 1 higher...but i actually played games against plat and diamond (have replay of diamond game)...baffles me a bit.

and considering cheese, i used to rage about them, now i accepted them as a part of the game, but i still think it's pathetic that people need to cheese just to get that promotion or get higher rank...if i was to get serious about sc than i would change my mentality, but since i'm playing just for fun it's not really incentive to keep playing 10,20,30 games a day
I do enjoy playing customs and sc in general, but laddering is a bit off putting..

besides the fact that is pretty normal that a game loses players after some time, i think the most people just don't have the right attitude for a game like starcraft. i mean... when you get mad after every loss and constantly blame the balance for it, it's rather obvious that you wont have fun with it in the long run.

Ignorance must be bliss.

It's like that because Terrans switched races, or stopped playing. (this was before the ghost announcement)

If you've got high masters mechanics, then being Terran is no problem.

If you want to play casually but still win games at a level above Gold, you better pick Protoss, or at the very least Zerg.

Using divisions to gauge what level you are is not the best way to see things. You could just get into a new division and suddenly you're rank 1 or 2. Also, I'm pretty top 25 is basically everyone that actually ladders and uses their BP.

I don't get why there's a "top" master after high now. It just sounds like people are just adding stuff in to inflate their skill level.

I still ladder, it's the best way to get an evenly matched opponent quickly. The more you worry about your points and league promotion, the less fun you will have. Just play for fun and watch the replays of your losses and you will get better.

I have two accounts and I hate PvPs so badly that I switch to Terran, now I'm rank #2 on diamond as the ladder is locked right now and play Master usually, and same problems as that I had to play so much TvTs.
So your point is? If its not systems' fault then whose?

One simple reason:

1v1 isn't fun to play.

Why?

1) Bad user interface makes it hard to socialize with people that matter.
2) It's mostly solitary.
3) There's too much focus on winning and not enough focus on fun. Why?
3.1) Exposed league for everyone to see, makes a lot of people self-conscious and worried about people thinking they're crap because they're below diamond.
3.2) In-game there's no pointing in the right way. Newbies who have no friends in the game, won't meet any with the awful in-game social system, and won't find any tips on how to improve.

Playing team games removes some of these, that's, in my view, they're also more popular.

This isn't true though.

Everyone knows Terrans are dissapearing from the ladder. There are plenty of threads knocking around with the stats to prove it. Not in Korea obv, but everywhere else.
