In mid January Fnatic started a couple of mysterious Tweets[3] and videos[4] announcing a new pick-up. On January 16th a second video was posted announcing an live-streaming event on January 17th, 8pm CET with MrBitter and RotterdaM[5], where Moon would be announced as their new pick-up. Further announcing that Moon would be switching to StarCraft 2 full-time.[1]

Can anyone give or point me to general advice on when/what to upgrade as Terran? (Attack/Armor upgrades) I've been getting attack upgrades first in general, is that a better idea than armor most of the time?

My first is how can I try and get my other friends to try SC or have some interest in it? 3 of my good friends are roomates and 2 of them are pretty big RTS fans. They mainly (and by mainly I mean only) play Age of Empires. They've played some lotr ones and dawn of war and what not, but they always go back to AoE. One of them doesn't have a computer good enough to run sc2 but when I try to show him it on mine or show him SC1 on his, he just bitches about how stupid it is and his other 2 roomates jump in agreeing with him about how easy of a game SC is, 2 resources blah blah 3 factions and just bitch the game out without even trying it. One of them used to play original SC too back in the day and agrees with them how easy it is (as I watch him play a skirmish in BW against a computer and get owned with 3 zerglings and sunken colonies up and 5 drones while the computer comes at him with an army). So my question is, how can I stop getting them to be so ignorant and actually give the game a chance and try to get them interested in it? Also they don't have internet at their house so I can't show them VODs or streams or anything, I'm stuck to replays and me playing the game.
My second question is related to the first but a bit off topic from the thread (just delete it if it shouldn't be here, sorry), but what are peoples thoughts on AoE? I've personally never played it but it seems like everything is on land, depends on RNG quite a bit and has an excessive amount of factions without much differences between them. Is it actually comparable to SC and worth checking out (for a fairly new person to the RTS genre in general)? I've even tried googling SC vs AoE but it just comes up with AoE forums with blatant fanboys making stupid arguments defending their game while never even having tried SC so that's why I bothered asking about it here, sorry if it's too off topic and shouldn't really be here. My advice would be to get decent at this game (maybe like gold league or so minimum) and then go and play AoE with them. I played AoE 3 and it is definitely a lot more 1-dimensional than SC 2. If you've gotten decent at SC 2, then I guarantee you'll be as good, if not better than them at AoE, even if they've played a lot more than you. The same thing happened with me and my friend. He's a big LoL player, and I was a HoN player (if you don't know, the 2 games are both off-shoots of DotA, and players from the 2 games generally hate each other), and I was trying to convince him that HoN takes a lot more skill than LoL. So to prove it to him, I just went and played LoL with him, and did just as well as he did on my 2nd game (and it was like his 500th game), and he was like "oh, maybe HoN players do know what they're talking about).
And even if you don't convince them to play, you can at least rub in their face how much better you are than them :D

Was looking through liquibet, at GuMiho vs DongRaeGu coming up..
GuMiho has 70% vZ, 65% vP, but 48% vT
korea is much less terran dominated than it was before, and gumiho powers his way to the ro4
just some thoughts.

The usual aproach to upgrades as a T is to start of by getting Attack upgrade, then build a 2nd engi bay and a armory and start 2/1 at the same time. Meaning you start +2 attack at the same time as +1 armor, i would recommend you try to practise this into your build, on vs AI or ladder if you so prefer.

I see some players have special characters in their name, like for example: ǂ Is it possible to just crtl+v one into your name when trying to change it, or do you have to set your keyboard up to it beforehand?

Could someone explain to me exactly how the bonus pool works? I don't really understand it at all.

I noticed more Koreans are switching from own3d to twitch, does anyone know why?
edit: actually I'm not sure about the 'more Koreans' part now, as I can only think of fOrGG. Will have to see in the morning-afternoon KST time.

When you're not playing, you get like 1 point added to your pool every hour. Its something like that, not sure exactly how fast you get them. When you win a game, the bonus pool is used to double up the points you get.
eg1 You win a game, you have 100 points in bonus pool Win game = + 8 points (+8 bonus Pool) total = +16 points
eg2 You win a game, you have 5 points in bonus pool Win game = +8 points (+5 bonus pool) total = +13 points
The purpose of the bonus pool is to encourage people to play ladder and to allow players who arnt getting any better to climb their division.
Imagine... if you won exactly 50% of your games, then you are staying at a constant level of play. But you'd get twice as many points for the wins as you'd get for losses. (eg +16 for win, -8 for loss). So even though you are not improving, it enables you to get to a high place in the ladder.
So when someone say's they are "high diamond" or something, the "high" part does not necessarily relate to skill.

Wow, thanks, that makes a ton of sense. Good idea by Blizzard, to implement something like this. Improves your self e-steem.

Normally when people say they are high diamond they should be referring to the fact that they are playing master league players regularly, thus likely legitimately being better than high-score diamond players who may have a lot more wins (to account for their higher loss count). You can be high diamond and have 100 points, I figure, esp. after season reset and inactivity. In leagues below masters I'd say points have no relevance most of the time - have to compare the win count to the points. Rank1 500Pt Diamond means little to nothing if you have 500 wins, you know? (Because that means you have a lottt of losses to account for it) But of course there is possibility that the player has ramped up in skill in recent times - still, often not the case.

Wait, what? He went 4-1 against MVP in the Ro16, and he is 68% vT. Gumiho has improved a lot lately, and he is definitely solid against Terrans nowadays. Those stats are his total career, and he did play random for quite a while, explaining why his TvT mirror match up doesn't have quite the same stability as his other match-ups.
Gumiho is definitely a solid player

Any idea when is Grandmaster league season 6 going to start? ( europe )
|
I know a lot of people joke about it, but the amount of Zerg players on EU is just ridiculous. I don't know if it's something to do with that low-mid Masters level, but I've played nothing but ZvZ for the last 10 games, and at least 50% ZvZ over the last 50~ or so. It's getting really tiring, the matchup is already insanely frustrating, and having to play it over and over again is driving me insane......
Makes me think there could be something to stop you from getting too much of the same MU on ladder... (Also less ZvZ on Tal'Darim please, it's a good map that's a fucking joke for ZvZ, PvP too ;_;)
EDIT: Finally get a ZvP after 12 ZvZ's in a row, get plyon-walled. This game is so fucking frustrating at times.

^Tell us when u get a terran, cause you know the game is balanced

GM started here in NA as soon as the servers came back online from patch construction. That was today, and EU usually goes down for updates the day after, right? GM should start up for EU as soon as your servers go down and come back up for the new patch as well

True story guys, the best part of this coming patch is going to be that we get to see our real APM again! ^.^ Can't wait for it to actually hit, i was fairly disappointed that they didn't do it with the maintenance yesterday.

I'm thinking about getting this game. But I'm not sure what it is exactly.
