If I were Activision I would for sure force Blizzard to keep profiting on those addicted, since so far it is not considered illegal like drugs are.
But there are cases of people dying in cyber cafes from playing too much SC or CS as well. Should they be banned too?
I don't enjoy WoW either but I don't see why there's any reason for you (or many others in this thread) to despise it so. It's contributed to some paradigm shifts in video game industry, brought a new element of social interaction to video games, spawned a great deal of development in the internet, was essentially a "killer app" for the PC platform in an era where big titles are ported over.
A lot of games are addictive and WoW is only always the first to be cited because not many games have 10 million+ players and maintain that number for years.
This is as unconstructive as the LoL vs SC2 debate which is in turn as unconstructive as SCBW vs SC2 which is in turn as PS3 vs Xbox which is in turn as Console vs PC which is in turn as Mac vs Windows which is in turn as iPhone vs Android which is in turn as Zune vs iPod. But there will always be oddly prejudiced people on the internet and other random people with a strange sense of justice that demand them to reply to such critics.
Ah whatever.
But anyhow, I want more Kerrigan. The campaign videos look really really fun, and shouldn't be too difficult as balance isn't an issue. However making multiplayer balanced yet innovative is going to be tough. I hope it doesn't take them ten more years.

How are you even allowed to comment on this forum with such stupid posts? And 2000 posts? You should know better.

Wtf this makes no sense. You know what else is addicting? Shopping, jobs, sex, caffeine, studying....basically, anything that a person could do that is fun/nice/rewarding.
Besides, how can you not understand that lots of people would like to play a game that's really easy, doesn't necessarily require a lot of time and resources, and has very good rewards even for the least skilled players?

Well it doesn't make sense to release an expansion mid tournament season, considering we have MLG and the Blizzard SC2 world championship using WOL. It's much better to polish the new expansion and release it beginning of next year, with the beta starting this autumn, for example. I think the transition will be much smoother. The casual fan base will have enough to play with D3 and MOP coming up in the next few months, so there shouldn't be a real dip in the profits for Blizz. Also no reason to rush and release three titles this year, when two this year and two next year is a much better idea, ensuring a steady flow of cash. Players and investors should be happy and we'll get THE expansion we've been waiting for with nice chat channels and clan support... I hope.

So seems like Hots not coming in 2012?

I'm not even sure it's in alpha, and it was only recently announced that it even existed at Blizzcon 4 months ago. It makes sense that they would choose MoP over HotS, because of the subscribers they get with WoW, but from a development standpoint, I think they are a lot further along with HotS then they are with MoP.
Though I suppose this isn't their first rodeo when it comes to WoW expansions and the time it takes them to get to the market is probably much quicker than StarCraft would be. Well they had the starting Panda zone 70% complete at Blizzcon. There was no female pandas yet and some quest triggers were not finished, but you could do the full leveling 1-10. They have consistently released videos of the various zones. The game needs to come out sooner than later with the last content patch will only keep people interested 1-2 more months. One thing that has been delayed quite a bit is the Starcraft Marketplace. Maps and custom maps where you could sell and buy them. Blizzard DOTA sounds like it is going to be some sort of Free-to-Play map but with ways to buy into parts of it. Also, the distribution channel chart, hints at two new mmos? Doesn’t the leaked schedule also have HotS being released quite bit ahead of MoP? Maybe this is me just trying to be hopeful and the bottom line is Blizzard is going to attend to the paying customers before they attend to HotS

I agree with this, but I would assume that if they really want HotS to take off they have to give it plenty of time for balance and… I would think that they would want to give the pros a little bit of time to develop builds, etc. in order to have that smooth transition, but I’m sure they are realizing that they can delay it more than they can delay MoP, because they are not going to switch tournaments midyear to HotS.

I think the optimal release (if it´s ready by then) is around November-December this year. It lets the pros play around with it during the down season, and once the tournaments of the next years start we´ll see quite a lot of new interesting strategies since the pros have had time to play it.
This also makes sense financially since they will rack in some christmas sales.

How can it take so long to make an expansion? It's mostly a map creation thing...
Step 1) Story ideas, map ideas, unit ideas : mostly done already for WoL but I'll say 1-2 months of work. Step 2) Start writing script + making maps : 2-3 months Step 3) Changing things around (script, map, units) : 2-3 months at max. Step 4) Multiplayer balance/new units/etc and battle.net changes (new changes to accomodate new leagues, etc) : 1-2 months maybe but it's also integrated into the other steps to some extent (battle.net is done by a different team so it could be done from the start). Step 5) Cinematics : Done as soon as Step 2 is done I suppose... a few months but also integrated into the same time frame as the others.
So yeah, that's a very generous time frame and it's less than 1 year of work for a good, refined campaign. Give a motivated 1 man team the map creator and he could make a 25+ map campaign in a few months by himself in his free time. I'm giving Blizzard large estimates since they are a large team but overall, I don't understand how making an expansion to SC2 takes so long.
I know they want to extend SC2 as long as possible but it's been a year and a half; we should have a release date by now or very very close to one (similar to D3).

Ugh, I hope they realize why WoW has lost so many subs. Mists of Pandaria? WTF. Like, when I first heard of it, I seriously, SERIOUSLY, thought that it was an April Fools joke that just came late. I can't believe it.
Not that I really care, at this point. I stopped playing WoW before Cataclysm came out, and most of my friends stopped playing when they heard Pandaria was coming out. Blizzard, get your act together and go back to being the company you were 10 years ago. Wishful thinking...
I really hope that the other products are coming out soon, and if not soon, they better be polished to pristine quality, considering the development time.

Pandarens are in the Warcraft lore so even though it sounds stupid it's not that much if you think about it. Anyway I don't think discussing WoW's design is the purpose of this thread ;o

Why not try to answer my points instead of going for a personal attack?
I made estimates that I think are fair for the different steps I could think of. I know there's testing internally and beta testing afterwards but this is an expansion. The game is already made. It simply should not take 2 and a half years to make it no matter how you look at it and that's how it looks like it will be.

to all the fool who believe in diablo 3 will release in Q2. Hahahahahahhahahaahahahaahahahahahaaha.
Remember all the promised blizz make regard to D3 release. Blizz is just like US president. Promised everything to voters and then poker face when one is in office.

Lol, you realize that Pandarens were originally introduced to Warcraft III as an April Fool's Joke as a potential hero in Frozen Throne right? The only reason the Brewmaster actually made it into Frozen Throne was because the joke got such a positive response.
So yes, when you think that much about it it's actually really stupid; to create an entire World of Warcraft expansion over something that was originally intended as an April Fool's Joke..............

Better delay a game with a year than give it out with full of bugs and shit, ala swtor and co. I dont get whats the problem with ppl whining about delayed games, only few companies are doing this, they rather delay than frickin relase a beta version for full price

Blizzard rolling with storytelling and making massive changes based on little things is nothing new. Kerrigan is an example of this.

I think the point is moot; it's not like Blizzard ever lore get in the way of anything. BC Space goats being parachuted in? Whatever sells man.
