I got introduced to it watching the Complexity Academy cast - I asked the chat who was casting, and they said to look the show up, so I did and it's amazing. I fortunately happen to play Zerg, and I'm learning a lot. If you feel like it, here is one thing I would like you guys to address - in ZvZ, how do you tell how many drones the other guy has? I mean, obviously you have to scout, but I get in trouble when I kind of just have to assume my opponent is droning and it turns out he was making 10 roaches, and then I just die to a push. So I guess the main question is, what's the best way to assume my opponent will be droning? You never want to assume anything blindly. You need to learn to scout properly, that is, to make educated conclusions about what your opponent is doing based on what you see, and also what you don't see. For example, if you have lings running around the back of his natural, if he has a lot of drones, you can assume he doesn't have an army. Also, if you scout your opponent and see very few drones but no units, that means his money had to have gone somewhere, and there's probably an army out somewhere on the map. It's all about scouting in ZvZ. I'll see if david is around to give a more elaborate answer. Also, really try to watch his eggs hatch; that will tell you what he's making.

So I guess the main question is, what's the best way to assume my opponent will be droning? The best way to learn what your opponent can produce in ZvZ is to actually play the builds he is doing vs you. There are only a few things you can actually afford, especially in the first 7 minutes of the game. For example, opening hatch first, on just 1 gas, i can only produce a wave of, say, 7-8 roahces in this time, and this would limit me to below 25 drones. Do not worry too much about what he can afford exactly. Instead, realize that if he does not do an optimal build, then his agression will be not scary at all. For example, if a player over drones, and i see a ton of drones, then i assum ehe's not making units. So, in this case i will drone. But let's say he decides to build roaches rigth after and attak me. The roach count will be so small and so late (becuase he droned first) that it won't matter if i did not prepare for it. Hope taht helps. This type of question is easier to answer fi you give me specific scenarios (what he opened, what time the game is at, what you opened, what happened in the game, what you scouted.)

The thought process was sound, but if you can use infested terrans you can use corruption. But, this is the only irksome thing I've seen David do, and it was during a game he'd essentially already won, so whatev.

I loooooooooove the use of corrupters for a lot of reasons, but if you get to the point where you're essentially done using them until you can get broods, like in that game, corruption is a phenomenal skill to spit down on anything. In fact, while the use of banes is way more effective, you could probably have taken out those armies using corruption to negate the benefit of repair. Yeah, I guess I don't really have any specific examples. My fears are probably just due to not playing enough and not getting as much of a feel for how fast a person can have any amount of units. This is probably compounded by the Zerg race's ability to change whenever they want from pure drone production to pure unit production. I guess my problem would also partially be solved by continuing to be active with my units - I just watched one of your VODs where you had a big roach lead, like 20 to 8 or something, but they were just sitting there, and if you hadn't just sat them there then you would have known what kind of an army your opponent had built.

I have some questions about how many queens I should initially get and the tradeoffs for getting more/less. It seems like some pros only get 2 (on 2 hatch), some get 3, and others go up to 4. Also some like to get 2 and then another 2 immediately, some get 2 and then gradually add more... I get that more = more creep spread but an additional 2 queens is the price of a hatch. What are some scenarios/game plans where its advantageous to have many queens and what are some scenarios where getting those extra queens would weaken me to certain things/timings? For example in ZvP, if he goes forge FE and i scout that he is taking 4 gas it would mean stargate tech right? Should i immediately get more queens out or just rely on spores? Another problem i have a lot is dealing with air units in ZvP (1-3 void rays, or small groups of phoenix 5-7). I feel like when i pull queens from my expos together to defend his point of attack my injects get all messed up and I get so focused on defending I lose the macro advantage that I have. Any comments or tips? Thanks in advance!

I feel like when i pull queens from my expos together to defend his point of attack my injects get all messed up and I get so focused on defending I lose the macro advantage that I have. Any comments or tips? Thanks in advance! Mmmm, the amount of queens i build are quite different in explaination per match up. If you have a mroe specific question (specific build and specific match up) it will be easier to expalin. Here's a very quick run-down though: ZvP - I find that the thing to focus on initially while getting 3 hatches up is allocation of energy into creep tumors or injects. Depending on how the probe denies your expo, you will either beable to place down a creep tumar, and walk the queen over to the newly built hatch in time, or if the hatch goes down earlier, just walk the queens over to use inject asap. Now, if say, I am able to place my 2nd and 3rd hatch extremely early WITHOUT any probe denying, then my injects are way earlier. As a result, I will have more larva, more drones, more minerals mined, and more production faster. Therefore, I feel taht at the 40-50 supply mark, I have about 200 more minerals to spend, and so i get an extra queen for creep spread. And of course, when seeing stargate, I want to hve 4-5 queens. ZvT - If i open 15 hatch and gas, then 3 queens is enough. With gasless openings, i feel that if you don't get 4 queens, you float 300 minerals for no reason. The only reason I would only get 3 queens opening gasless is if i'm putting down a very quick 3rd base, or macro hatch, what have you. ZvZ. I would only get more than 2 queens if i open 15 hatch and he is baneling all inning me off 1 base. Other than this, I only see the need to build additional queens when you are transfering your 2nd base queen to your newly built 3rd base. Creep tumors are only useful in this match up if you need to spine up to defend ur 2nd and 3rd base. Thanks for watching, hope this helped!
