Kinda harsh on him there. I think it takes about 3 years or more of constant playing RTS games such as Startcraft or Warcraft 3 to become a top player. As far as i know he has a backround in nether, so 1 year in SC2 and he is making good progress as far as i can tell

oh stop people. 3 weeks will make him better but nobody is going to argue he will become the #1 foreign zerg in 3 weeks.. it's a great training period and a nice opportunity for a guy who hasn't been to korea to go to korea in the name of sc2.. just be happy for him.

3 weeks later....
Destiny wins every single tournament starting January.

No, but all seriousness, is 3 weeks really going to help? If anything I could see it influencing his overall practice regiment when he comes back to the states, but in terms of radical improvement....

Actually it just for 10 days. He arrived in Korea about a day ago.

Don't know where you got 10 days from, he is returning on the 9th of January.

After coming home from Korea, he's going to stay with Catz for a bit for Snowboarding. I think the 9th is when he arrives back in Nebraska.

I thought he'd attend HomeStoryCup starting on the 5th?

3 weeks in korea is nothing compared to how much Huk, Idra, Sase, Naniwa, ect. are training.

Also; playing Deus Ex, Skyrim, and LoL doesn't help either.

Yeah, I feel that you need 3 months at the minimum. But to truly be the best I feel that you need to stay in korea most of the time, a lot like what Huk is doing.
Talent + Hard work = success and Korea forces you to work hard (most of the time)

And yeah, to play other games fairly often is not something you can do if you rly wanna focus on getting good at sc2. Sure, you can play it occasionally but not on regular basis

It is still a substantial amount of time for someone to spend in a country to practice. Other players have the financial backing and lack of responsibility (not in a bad way) to stay there for much longer.

As for the other games, other pros do this as well. Destiny just streams everything he does as a source of income. It helps to not get burnt out on starcraft. Besides, while he is in Korea it is highly unlikely he will play any other game.

really, it's all relative. sure 3 weeks will give some sort of a boost. but at an MLG, when he encounters a korean in the open bracket, he's gonna be going up against a guy who's been in that rigorous practice environment for months, if not years (if ex-bw player). 3 weeks ain't shit in that kind of scenario.

The only thing you need to be good is the motivation and practice resources.
The only thing you need to be a top player is what I said above and to enjoy the game.

Destiny loves this game, and he is motivated to get better. Korea will do very well for him.

I wonder if Destiny would be able to afford staying in Korea for more than 3 weeks. If Idra and Huk's stream numbers can be extrapolated on, Destiny will lose about 50% of his viewers when he streams during Korea time.

I wonder if Destiny is a little frustrated with the fact that he lives off streaming. While he may well feel differently, if I was in his position, I would want to considered a player first. And he's said himself his goal is to improve. Living in Korea for a substantial period of time would be the best way to do that, but perhaps impossible with a child to support.

Sure he'd like to be considered a player, but playing SC2 is his job... he supports himself off of it. You can think of his trip to Korea as a company sending its employee to some sort of job/skill training course. He's going to Korea for a month or so; he won't' become a top player because of it, but he will for sure improve even a little bit, but most importantly than the skill improvement, he will: a) have a lot of valuable experiences that he can share / communicate with his fanbase, which will keep them happy and probably attract new fans (this will directly contribute to him making more money when he streams after he returns), b) learn better practice routines, methods that he can take home with him that will allow him to improve as a player more when he gets back.

So yes, while for 3 weeks or 1 month he might lose out on some money due to not being able to stream at good times, the experience, increase in skill, and lessons he will learn in Korea will more than make up for it I'm sure.

Xeris care to give us your thoughts on if this is worth it for Quantic to be sending destiny to korea for three weeks? Which much like desrow's case, of course i agree with you and think this will only help destiny out not hurt him.

I always find it confusing when players who are not at the very top of their server go to korea. Players like demuslim, i could definatly see benifiting from going to korea as the people they play on this server are not even good practice, but i feel like destiny will just get crushed and could get equally good practice if he didn't stream all the time and focused hard on practice in the US with members of his new team. I dont think it will hurt his play and it may be a fun trip but he's like a zergling attacking into some battle cruisers.

To learn. Korea will not instantly make you a better player, but he will undoubtedly learn a lot that he can then use to help perfect his game. And who gives a shit if he's not top tier. It's really rude to say he shouldn't go over there. He is entitled to learn just as much as anyone else. Stop complaining and be happy.

Im not complaining or saying he shouldn't go i just think if he really wanted to learn he would stream less and hardcore practice more. This seems more like a holiday for him, not a business trip.

Though he hasn't been in GM every season, Destiny's been ranked #1 or #2 pretty consistently in his master league divisions, which puts him among the top 400 or so players on the NA server. I think it would be hard to argue that anyone in that range wouldn't benefit from focused practice in Korea.

I doubt it will be focused practice though he says he will be streaming the whole time and unless your are top na grandmaster then your still RELITIVELY pretty bad, any old guy can get into na gm. I play gm eu players all the time and a lot of them are very very shit.

well just going to korea, maybe not, but even still there is value

hwoever staying in a pro teamhouse is a different level then just goin to korea. Not only will he have Korean ladder, he will make a ton of contacts, and hopefully find top notce partice partners, also be exposed to the training system of the best.

Further the contact he makes there will even enhance his stream as I can see his #'s going up after he comes back during a practice session with julyzerg or any ST player (and players for other teams he will meet)
