"BlizzCon 2011 is just around the corner! Attendees are starting to pick up their badges and goody bags this afternoon -- including the cards to redeem for this year's World of Warcraft in-game pet and top-secret StarCraft II in-game gifts -- so we wanted to give you a heads up about when to expect this year's items to show up in-game.
Murkablo, this year's World of Warcraft in-game pet, will be available in-game on Thursday, October 20.
The StarCraft II portrait and decal will be available in next StarCraft II patch (patch 1.4.2), estimated to be released in early November.
Attendees who picked up their goody bags can redeem the codes from their cards now, and the pet, portrait, and decal will automatically appear in the games attached to their Battle.net account at the times above. People who bought the Virtual Ticket will automatically receive their gifts at these times, too."
since it is x.x.2, I am not sure if it there will be any balance changes. But if ppl push a little bit during blizzcon, especially with the "TL interview with Browder", they may add some balance changes.

1.31 had balance changes, no? I can't remember, but that seems right.
Knowing the date doesn't really do much though. Other than excite me

I obviously can't assure/guarantee anything but I'm personally pretty certain there won't be any balance changes in that.
Could be wrong! Certainly not gonna bet my hair on it, that's for sure.
+ Show Spoiler +I sure would be glad to see some though...

Why not?
You need to shave your hair and grow a chin strap to make it big in SC2!

Well the game was balanced not too long ago and pvp is evolving quite well, so I don't think there will be any changes.
|
There won't be a balance change next patch, it's just maintenance and misc. additions.

Yeah, I don't see sweeping changes coming, perhaps some map additions? Some minor tweaks in balance perhaps or maybe just a bug fix patch.

I know it's just the cynic in me, but I'm pretty sure 1.4.2 is going to be a patch just for the portrait and decal.
EDIT: Upon reading the patch summaries on Liquipedia to try and figure out what differentiates 1.X patches from 1.X.Y patches, I have come to the conclusion that it is editor improvements. Bugfixes and balance changes appear in 1.X.Y patches, meaning that only editor improvements appear exclusively in 1.X patches.

Hmmm... is it possible that this patch will coincide with the release of HotS?

Does anyone miss beta, when there were changes every other week. It was fun times. Even if you felt like your race was copping it in the ass.

No, I don't believe that, but in my opinion what makes this one special is there is BlizzCon just before November. BlizzCon and interacting with community is the only motivation for me to think positively. Other than that, my view is the same with yours.

I think this patch will just add the decals etc., don't read too much into that.

Typical numbering schemes are completely open to interpretation, but the general rule of thumb is that a X.Y.Z where X signifies a massive and significant complete overhaul over the entire system, Y a significant change to one or more parts, and Z is minor changes. There are no guidelines outside of company policy as to what patch names should represent.
For example, Firefox have been quite open in that they have been bumping up their X number simply because IE is at 10 or so, and Chrome is at version 14, and if firefox is only at 5 or 6 they look inferior on a low level.
So you can't read too much into this change other than it probably won't contain any vastly significant changes to the actual build. I wouldn't expect any changes to UI or anything (like we got in 1.4), but as far as I'm concerned all unit statistics (damage, health, build time, spell cost, anything balance related) is up for tweaking.
Maybe.

hopefully this patch won't break anything.
|
yeh wont be a patch before HOTS, hopefully in HOTS they sort out every issue as this game is a joke at the moment. The new units need to change so many matchups.
|
No balance changes are OK. Changes in a new patch are not always good. At the current state of the game, Starcraft2 is pretty balanced.
|
if they change anything involving balance they usually release the patch on PTR servers like few week before official release, so you can safely assume that it will be just bugfix patch.
|
They PTR all the balance changes before putting them live, so highly unlikely
|
On October 21 2011 17:27 Dommk wrote: They PTR all the balance changes before putting them live, so highly unlikely
This. You'll know when balance changes are coming because they will be for a couple of weeks on PTR.
|
I predict end of 2012 release for hots so I imagine they will still do a couple more balance patches for wings of liberty. If they stopped balancing this game for a year I doubt it and we all know its not coming out within the next 6 months (if it does my mind will be blown).
But I don't think the november patch will be about balance imo.
|
I think they'll announce the start of the HOTS beta this weekend. Depending on that I think it'll be easy to tell whether we will see any more balance changes for wol. If HOTS Beta doesn't start this year we will see some more balance changes, but I don't think blizzard will put any effort in balancing wol once they are focusing on the beta.
|
I can't see this patch not changing anything to bunkers.

as for starcraft, I believe there was a 0.10.3 in beta or something.
also, I heard of a game once where the version number increased to have an additional decimal for pi every version: like so
3, 3.1, 3.14, 3.141, 3.1415 and so on.
game versions are not limited by "tenth" or "hundreds", it is simply most commonly:
if we completely revamped the game, we add 1 (and scratch everything after it)
if we made a significant change, we add 0.1
if we made a small change, we add 0.0.1
if we made a tiny (almost irrelevant) change, we either don't mention it at all or we add 0.0.0.1, this is very rare to do.

HOTS by end of 2012 at the latest. It'll likely be by Q2 2012, depending on D3 release date. They won't want to release both games simultaneously.

1.3.3 was a really big balance patch. They do balance changes in these kind of patches
|
But if ppl push a little bit during blizzcon, especially with the "TL interview with Browder", they may add some balance changes. That is pure speculation. If they were to change the entire games balance based on interviews at Blizzcon it would either be magnanimous or terrifying.
I'm going to go with terrifying, thinking it implies they failed to notice it being said a dozen times before.

I think thats a little bit of an exaggeration. Its not perfect but its not a joke either.

This patch is likely to be about minor bug fixes, blizzcon portraits and decals, and probably some promotional stuff for HotS to be included in WoL but I can't see any mayor balance changes happening. I also don't see HotS released this year or early next one, most likely at the end of next year so we will see some more changes in balance before the new ladder kicks in; here's hoping for a december or january release of Diablo 3 though, that'll blow my mind I do agree balance changes are not always good, the infestor change for instance was not good and protoss was already figuring out some ways to fight it, blizz needs to let the game develop a bit before changing balance issues, I know it takes time but the great players of SC2 are working on solving "overpowered" builds and then they throw a monkey wrench in their plans. Here's hoping the new units won't suck and my prayers of fixing the hydra so it's viable be answered !!!
|
My guess is that the new patch will come with the start of the new season. It will include map pool changes.
|
I will be very disappointed if they don't make some balance changes soon, there are some obvious imbalances that need to be addressed.
|

Destructible rocks now behaves like critters, they move around randomly all over the map. Zerg borrow units can now move under the rock for protection. Terran can build bunkers on top to increase bunker range by 1. Protoss zealot with charge will now push the rock at the direction of the charge.
|
Early november would just be around the time they Concluded the winners for the TL map making contest. We might just see some map changes.
|
More well deserved nerfs for protoss?
Need to delay thermal lance they can still make a 1 base 2 colosus timing push before the 10 minute mark

There you go. I knew it would be bunker related.

Blizzard takes balancing very seriously. Proper match balance is what makes a good game a great one. They make a lot of maths and statistics on match all around the world to see if things are going ok or they need to fix them up. I month ago they posted about it. Just because I'm in big problems against mass marine It doesn't mean that medivacs or stim should be nerfed. I would be very happy if they do, but I know that is just my issue and I have to deal with it. So, as someone else noted before, Blizzard tests balance changes and no tests has been done since 1.4.1. Don't expect balance changes.
|
Everything in this thread is pure speculation anyway. Let's wait until it's released. We'll have material to discuss then.

You're right man, it's impossible to snipe infestors or broodlords with 1 less range on snipe. I mean, Protoss have range 9 on Feedback and Colossi, and they lose to Broodlord/Infestor every time. Blizzard should probably nerf Broodlord range instead, cause Ghosts obviously aren't good enough against Zerg T3 yet.
|
I hope that the portrait and the Decal are worth the $40, lmaoo but I cant wait to see MVP kill everyone. <3
|
Ghosts aren't strong enough against late game protoss either. I think they should probably make emp remove 100% of shields instead of a flat amount. Also should probably let them be built out of reactors to make sure they can keep up with late game zerg production.
Its just too hard to make your deathball of ghosts while also pumping 20 marines out of a time out of all your reactors. We all know terran has a really hard time with mineral income and needing to build more barracks for tech labs is just too much.

Nerfing Snipe too would sound like a good idea to me. + Show Spoiler + After watching MVP snipe like twenty broodlords from Nestea at Blizzcon I do feel Snipe works a bit too well against Zerg. It's effectively one unit that kills all of Zerg tier 2.5 and 3. (Ultralisk, Broodlord, Infestor).
Btw, I am beginning to understand the map selection they have in the GSL. Shattered Temple and Shakuras Platau don't really look like very good maps. Thank God GSL had the balls to start using their own maps.

A change like this I think will be for a major patch I think. But guess it's plausible to see such a change in a patch soon. I just got the feeling it was something they were still discussing. It will be more than likely just bug fixes or tweaks... Hoping for a ghost change, though.

Easy fix. Snipe now does 30 damage to biological (+20 to light). Still ignores armor.
Still kills Marines, Workers(?), Zerglings, and does good damage to Zealots. Doesn't kill Tier 3 Zerg Tech units. You can shift around the base damage and bonus vs. light to balance it out.
|
I Want my portrait !!!! :D

My guess -Ghost nerf (Snipe and EMP) -Protoss buff -Map changes; ie no close spawns -Some small miscellaneous zerg buff/tweak -And another change to bunker, maybe 50% salvage this time

HotS is still a ways away. We don't even have a release date yet. I doubt WoL will go for several months without any balance changes. Granted, this might depend on what you consider a "major" balance change as opposed to minor tweaks.

Protoss won't get buffed, and they definitely won't remove close spawns because Blizzard likes "fast more intense games".

8)

Yup i really really really hope they finally fix those gfx issues =/

I heard chatter about them reducing the radius of EMP because it was dealing too much damage, which isn't not really supposed to do. This is about the only thing I can think of that will certainly be patched.

Belshir Beach and Dual Sight aren't very good maps. They would be better than abyssal and gulch though(but I thought they took gulch out already?). Plus, besides the power of 1-1-1, Xel Naga is a good map.
Overall the replacements would be a nice change, but most of the GSL maps aren't great either

Oh yeah I can see this, either that or make EMP slower (unlikely) or make it cost like 100 energy instead cus 75 is really cheap o.o (unlikely since they want it to cost 75 energy like fungal and psy storm)
Also I can see them putting a 1-2 second cooldown on the snipe ability, ghosts are extremely flexible and have really strong late game power.
|
They also mentioned possibly making +2 and +3 Protoss upgrades a bit cheaper to make them a bit more affordable late game.
|
From what I got from blizzcon: -Lower EMP radius -Make +2/+3 Toss upgrades cheaper
Dunno if that's hots or the future of wol. I'd rather see map changes though, some of the current ladder maps are really terrible.

I believe it. The progress they showed for multiplayer is extremely abysmal. I watched all the panels and I don't know if they mentioned all this is really early or late. I think at the art panel they mentioned one or two units was done a week or so ago... so looks like some units were scrapped together to show for Blizzcon. Especially the 2 protoss units... really? We get 2 more snow globe units? Sentry wasn't enough? Generic mechwarrior bot in the warhound?

Most of the GSL maps are really good imho which is quite natural given they actually know something about esport maps.
And Xelnaga is absolutely not fine, its really really bad TvZ. Thats the reason its out of most of the tournament pools.

8) Belshir Beach and Dual Sight aren't very good maps. They would be better than abyssal and gulch though(but I thought they took gulch out already?). Plus, besides the power of 1-1-1, Xel Naga is a good map. Overall the replacements would be a nice change, but most of the GSL maps aren't great either ? Most of the GSL maps are really good imho which is quite natural given they actually know something about esport maps. And Xelnaga is absolutely not fine, its really really bad TvZ. Thats the reason its out of most of the tournament pools. I think he's talking about how Dual Sight is notoriously anti-Protoss. In GSL Protoss have well under 50% win/loss because of how open it is (I'm trying to find the stat but I'm having no luck, I read it on here somewhere). I can't comment on the new Belshir Beach, but the old was considered Zerg favoured and was vetoed a lot. And yes, you're right, Xel'Naga was phased out for a good reason.

i spoke with david kim a little bit at blizzcon and he said a balance patch is coming within the next "few weeks"
most likely a very small radius decrease for EMP

haha. You'd be surprised how many games derive "alien" looking languages from sanskritic fonts. I you were to look at a lot of Star Wars material, most of the alien languages have a hindi script.

The new units need to change so many matchups. hots is 2+ years out. You kidding? No way, not even Blizzard would be that ridiculous. HOTS by end of 2012 at the latest. It'll likely be by Q2 2012, depending on D3 release date. They won't want to release both games simultaneously. 2+ years out is way too much though, despite it not looking very finished. That's what the beta is for, which will probably be out by Q1 2012. Sooo the real game will prob be out by Q3 2012 I'd guess.

Why do so many people not know if balance changes are coming? 1.4.2 has been out on the PTR for a while now...

The patch notes for 1.4.2 were released on the 26th of October as seen here
So, the majority of this thread took place before the release of the 1.4.2 patch notes, or PTR release.
