Initially, we were safe. Except for the annual WCG assault, we were not threatened. But over the last year the Rebellion has suffered defeat after defeat at the hands of the Korean Empire. Our forces have collided everywhere, from the westernmost reaches of our homeland to the enemy's eastern frontier. How naive we were to think their bloodlust would be sated by our meager annual tribute. At first they were content, but as time passed the Empire's hunger grew. It began as but an expedition by one or two of their most elite warriors into our territory, but their success has paved the way for further misery.
Months later, we live in a world where no tournament is safe. The Koreans fall from the sky to claim our money. Our treasure. Our fame. Our pride. Our women. Once a safe haven from the Empire, our so called 'ally' MLG has begun inviting them in droves. The ones that are not invited travel here nonetheless as mercenaries. Even the one they call 'king' is himself coming to prove his royal worth. To them, we have become stepping stones: A battle that must be won to advance in their warrior society.
We are at a crossroads, friends. We are divided but we are not conquered. The recent victories in China and Atlantic City provide us hope. The future may not be as bleak as previously thought but the war is far from over. We cannot back down now. We cannot stop fighting. We must hold the line. The Empire cannot be allowed to continue its reign of terror. Their greatest warriors have come to Orlando and we must be ready. This is our chance to stifle their advance. A third victory in a row. There is no better time or place to turn the tide. Soldiers, fight with all your might so that those who cannot may live on in peace. The future of our great world rests upon your shoulders.
Oh and when you say "king" i'm guessing you mean boxer right? (i think emperor would have been more suitable, but i'm not too familiar with the wording of the actual movie intros, if you are like directly copying it and replacing a few words with "korean" etc xD)

Huk still has to beat Hero. Ret has to play Rain. Idra has to play TLO.
BUT, the winner of Bracket A will probably be TheStC or Stephano/White-Ra, so I can't say Idra will win his group exactly. Ret will play someone really good from Bracket B, most likely MarineKing. So I'm not exactly sure if Ret will win his group regardless if he beats Rain... Since Polt was just taken out by Gowser (WTF). Huk can lose to Hero (but we have to consider him the favorite). Winner of bracket D I'm thinking will be SaSe, unless HasuObs or Chance beats him (but then I would think Jinro/TriMaster have a better shot at beating those two than SaSe). So I will say Huk wins his group regardless.
Orlando is going well for foreigners so far right? Ret, Idra, Huk, all 3-0 for the foreigners right? if these three win their groups, then we already have 3 in top 6.... THIS IS IT!

No way. I thought Huk defected to the koreans? ^^
A clever ruse my good man. When they least expect it, they will find his blade in their backs.
i made it more official, add this to the op, but it might gay it out.
click your mouse wheel, and then place the cursor slowly below the point that yuo clicked on, and the screen will scroll slowly down as if it was a starwars intro. SO EPIC.
Does anyone actually think about how these foreigners beating Koreans is nothing huge considering it's been happening since the start of sc2 o_o? We can only really celebrate once a foreigner has beaten the top terran/zerg/protoss of sc2. not a random top gamer in a huge tournament and only when that happens. -____-

qxc could be Han Solo - or Chewbacca.
Luke hasn't come into existence yet. But when he does, he'll be day9's pupil.
Oh QXC never change, also come back to us soon man! I really do like this semi silly and semi serious rallying cry though. Korean vs the world in major lans for 2011 currently stands at 9:3 in korea's favour ( * Assuming I didn't screw the numbers up).
Foreigners are doing much better though and it makes me so happy. The better the foreign scene does the more it inspires players to work hard and player better. The harder foreigners fight back should trigger the Korean players to step their own games up. The stronger the scene is as a whole means better games for the fans and a higher chance of starcraft 2 reaching the sort of skill level and prestige of it's predecessor as it ages.
So fight on foreigners, for yourselves and for esports ^-^

It bothers me the way Koreans are so villainized in foreign SC2 communities. If anything, they're the ones with the uphill battle, having less opportunities to compete and with the general problems of attracting fans and sponsors. The stakes are a lot higher for them in these sorts of tournaments, as they may not get an opportunity to come back and to leave empty-handed would be a great disappointment.

I don't think most of TL sees them as villains, hell if the fanclubs are anything to go by a lot of the Korean pro-gamers are more beloved than some of the foreigners. I think It's more a matter of wanting starcraft 2 to remain global, if Korea becomes overly dominant than the game will likely wither away . SC 2 is not big or popular enough to self sustain in Korea alone and sponsors will not keep paying for foreign teams or tournaments if all that's ever seen is Koreans winning everything. The scene must appear to be at least remotely competitive on an international level if it's to thrive.
Personally in tournaments I root for the players I like the most be they Korean or foreigner. Whether it's Kiwi with his motherships, July with his nonstop aggression or MKP and his combination of cheese and solid timings I cheer for the players who over many games and tournaments have won me over with their skill, playstyle and personality.
That was epic. And creative. Hey, who knows, the foreign community is on a roll after the last two victories. And now that they've seen the koreans lose, maybe it will inspire them.
Now if you excuse me I'm going to go watch Star Wars.

A white bonjwa will rise to give hope to the foreigners and to bring the game to a whole new level. The perception of StarCraft and e-sports in general will be changed forever and no one will question again the equality between foreigners and koreans and the possibility for anyone to reach the top. He's the one the scene has been expecting for so long. RocknRolla will be his name...
I don't remember the movies all that well, but does Leia plead for help by writing a message on the bottom of her shoe, then kicking someone right in the skull?
Because if that's the case, then yeah that comparison totally flies.
Anakin Skywalker = HuK then? He's probably our greatest foreigner(Code S) and beats Koreans regularly, but he lives at the Empire(Korea). Is it too late or?
That was great. The music makes it great. Lets fight and defeat the empire in Orlando. We must never give up. I have high hopes for the young padawan called Sase but I fear that he might have turned to the dark side.
Truly we are doomed! I have to cover my children's eyes every time we watch a major tournament. Then I turn off the monitor and lie to them about who won; because I can not bear to hear the pain in their voices as they scream "Why daddy why?"
Huk as Luke Skywalker. White-ra as Obi-Wan. (the old Obi-Wan from Episode 4) Jinro as Chewbacca. Bomber as Darth Vader. Anna as Leia. Boxer as the Emperor. Artosis as the guy that says "it's a trap!"
So far the fight is going well at MLG. 3 out of 4 of the groups have foreigners at the top. However the threat still remains and should not be overlooked.
In IEM, Gatored is our new foreign hope, making it to the Semi-finals of the whole event, HE BEAT TOP 3-0, FUCKING TOP. TT1 still remains as the other foreigner, will he manage to beat DRG? We'll see.

Artosis as Admiral Ackbar? hahaha.
Who's going to be Lando Calrissian? C3PO? R2-D2? How about Yoda?

As I said earlier - Artosis is definitely Sidious, as he's getting foreigners to join Korean teams. With that it's clear, that Major is Anakin. The role of Yoda goes to the Thoughthammer, hiding in a cave*cough on a planet.
he went over to the korean side, but when his precious greggors (luke) is about to get crushed by the emperor (uhh... imMvp?), vaders going to kill the emperor
so then, during MLG orlando, when idra makes it out of pool play as #1 (after drewbie beat marineking, real possibility), he'll finish as the highest non code-S, giving him a free code S spot. imMvp will choose him during group selections, and will beat him, knocking him out of the round of 32. at this point, huk will grab Mvp, and toss him into one of the fire-spitting things they have at the gomTV studio, while idra complains about terran being imba

MLG is going decently for foreigners, but IEM NY is overrun by koreans, with only a small glimmer of hope given by Gatored, thus it quickly faded away.

Nope..we all have total respect for the awesomeness of Korean players (I cannot wait to see Nestea and MVP @ Blizcon) but humans love having an under dog to cheer plus we all want the sport to truly be global and for that it needs more winners like Stephano and Idra .

Oh man totally with qxc on this one. I love many korean players but I cant help root for any non-korean player (even if they are a douchey player). Havent been following either MLG or IEM this weekend (exams soon :S ) but Im hopeful to hear of some good results for the 'foreigner' (cant help but wince at theis term) scene.
Unlike in BW, I feel like the SC2 korean scene is artificially propped up while the foreign scene has more organic roots. Therefore, I say that there is a good chance that if this situation keeps up, then i think that in the long run, non-koreans can be on equal terms with koreans. Despite what anyone thinks, SC2 scene in korea is very bare outside the GSL.
Hello qxc, im CatZ, a commander from the planet of Gainesville, you might've heard of me. For many months I've been good at predicting shit, hence my nickname "The Oracle of Zerg", I believe that the rebellion needs its own leagues instead, and it is imperative for the world of Starcraft outside of korea that we don't lose Hope, here in Gainesville, I have a small number of troops rallied, they are really amazing people who still have banners of the Rebellion, two of them even got us to imprint our ROOT signatures on their keyboards @ MLG, this almost brought tears to my eyes, of days where forgeiners were not yet defeated and put their hopes in teams and local heroes, unfortunately the troops at gainesville sort of suck shit skillwise, so we cannot form an alliance strong enough for it to be staged here, EG has made progress in their training facility in the dry as fuck planet known as arizona, there people like the gracken were able to overcome whatever it was he overcame and managed to bring hope to the rebellion, Stephano from planet france managed to repeat this success on an even greater scale, leading us to think that all hope was not lost yet. But I still believe that in order for the rebellion to succeed on a greater and more consistant scale, we must push each other, create more local and regional tournaments to messure who our best pilots are and then send them against the starfleet of the empire, instead of sending a shitload of really crappy ships, nomsayin? I have hope that Nani-wan-kenobi will do good at blizzcon, he's been training hard inside the death star, but remains a loyal servant of the rebellion, that's my report, sorry its really long and for the most part useless to our cause, cause the leaders of the rebellion are hookers of sorts

It's no different from an Egyptian Ski Team (should one exist) going to train in Switzerland under a local coach. Doesn't make them Swiss.
Yeah, but if/when they win it's really a victory for the Swiss method and style, so the Swiss have a reasonable claim to the victory too.
The Egyptians wouldn't win if they stayed in Egypt, meaning Egypt is worse than Switzerland.
The Olympic analogy doesn't really make sense since you cant play for any country. The Korean method is undoubtedly the best. But in SC1 no foreigner won a tournament that a top Korean was also in. Using your logic if the german ski team used the swiss method, the swiss still get a victory because their method was used. Which I dont agree with at all.

That's what I was getting at. To be the best you train with the best. You don't lose your national identity by doing so.

Talked to him a few times this week end, he's still as white as ever
I hate being "that guy", but I'm kind of bothered by the folks who keep asking for a "white" winner of GSL, tournaments, etc.
I always thought of it as wanting a foreigner, meaning non-Korean. It sounds kind of racist by saying "white". Korean is a nationality, not a race. A white kid born in Korea is still Korean, and even if he won GSL, it still would be a Korean win. There are plenty of non-Caucasian SC players in NA/EU.
To phrase it correctly, HuK is still as Canadian as ever (or American, depending on who you ask).
I always thought of it as wanting a foreigner, meaning non-Korean. It sounds kind of racist by saying "white".
I believe that was a shout out to Moon's famous "Koreans own white dudes" observation.
I personally enjoy reading flames on Koreans vs World (double so if HuK's nationality question is involved) whenever I have some popcorns handy. Arguing about definitions of words is always awesome and useful way to spend your time. Because, you know, definitions is not something majority just agrees upon, nah, they are objective properties of words. Can be measured using definitionmometer. And the nationality of HuK is far more important than the game itself. I hope the next MLG features fanboy flamewars instead of SC2 games *popcorn*
I like how everyone is happy to compare a weekend-marathon event like MLG to a month-long one like GSL, and blissfully neglect to consider the difference in the number of games that Open/Invite partecipants are asked to play.

yeah its a shame gsl players don't have endurance to play more then 5 games... kidding obviously. It works for both players and if your concentrations poofs after 5 games while the other player is still in top shape. Its something they trained and thus deserve the win.

What are you talking about? The MLG format protects the highest seeded players by making them play just a handful of games against worn out players from the brackets. When Hero played against HuK, it was HuK first game while it was at least the fourth top level series for Hero. I'm not blaming MLG, you need to give something to the best or the most loyal players during the season, but you can't say they are playing on the same conditions.
