Honestly I think the fear of "Spoilers" is silly. If you recorded and wanted to watch game 7 of the NBA finals would you log on to ESPN.com before you watched it? No, you wouldn't. So if you don't want spoilers before you watch an SC2 match don't go to TeamLiquid.net
I think the OP is right... there is no real sense of community or excitement after huge events.

How many of you watch a game from an important tournament later on without checking the results before-hand? I know the first thing I do in the morning after a big night of GSL, I check the results and if I have time I’ll watch the games, knowing the results beforehand won’t change my excitement about it. See i cant do this, if i know the result of something or the outcome i wouldnt waste my time watching it. If i know a football (soccer) score i wouldnt watch the whole game to see the outcome because you already know it, it seems wasteful to watch something you know the outcome of. I understand your point about spoilers, and that when IPL3 winner of IEM winners are known TL should start writting about it straight away then release it within the same day or the following day. But having to wait over a week for updates from something so old is kind of silly and i understand some peoples frustrations. But i think TL could start doing this just for the plain fact eventually people will not come onto TeamLiquid before watching VODs of games/tournaments. You wouldnt load up a Football Site if you didn't want to know the result of a match, you just avoid everything until you have watched it. jaeh but this will hurt TL as whole community as well since i normaly every day check TL and if they make spoilers its like you can only watch it after you watched GSL MLG NASL every event you have to. like from all events in past days i am back 2 weeks with NASL and its fine, i can watch vods. no one really want to see vods when you know results as you said its like watching soccer with the knowledge of the result. why not make a switch on page from SPOILEr to SPOILERFREE i dont know but it sounds so silly to destroy fun of half to make the other half have 1 click less ... when there are SO MANY pages who spoilers everything (gosugamers reddit etc etc) you really need this to be informed ? Show nested quote +On October 20 2011 21:59 Wipples wrote: For the people complaining about timezones, I follow plenty of sports overseas and when I wake up in the morning the first thing I want to do is find out the results of the games. Just look at the olympics, you never see people get mad when its on the first page of the newspaper. I know Starcraft is not the olympics, but its the same kind of thing to me. If there's a tournament, I want the results, if I can watch the game thats a bonus, but if i can't I want to at least know/feel like something happened. but then you only want to know the RESULTS if you want to see a full game you would spoiler yourself before ? this destroys the sense of vods totally cause i cant imagine people wanna watch vods they know the results ... olympics stuff etc ... its more about the results tehn about itself i rly cant imagine the boring time watch the stuff 12 hours long but if you have a great game of starcraft you want see it and not hear about the result ... On the contrary, whether I have heard the results or not, I still love watching the vods if they are good games. Doesn't matter to me who won as long as its exciting.

But then again, I'm not the person watching VOD's. I watch everything live because of the hype and excitement. If I can't watch it live I just check the results when I wake up so getting results and tournament winners show up in my face the first in the morning when I goes to Teamliquid does not affect me. thats exactly the points, spoiler would only help people who not even care about watching the vods ... and sry to say but then you can go in a tread and read it is it to much to make 1 click to see results ? you have to destroy the fun of people who wanna watch the vods ? who even have problems then find the vods because spoilers everywhere ? Well, I could just say "sorry to say but then you could just stay away from TL before you watch the games". I think it would give a big touch to the site if you had the awesome writers and graphic designers on this site to make news about etc HuK winning MLG and everyone can go there and read about it, congratulating HuK, talk about the finals etc etc. It's good because it builds hype.

The OP added some "fine points" where Klogan stated that revealing the result for a MLG would be about the same as watching a movie trailer. I completely disagree. There are better and more valid arguments against being spoiled than those mentioned by Klogan. Secondly the movie trailer argument is theoretically a spolier but in practise not. Consider that the clips from a trailer is taken out of context, out of order and if longer clips occur they are mostly from the early stage of the movie. The part from which a film review paints a picture for the reader to describe what kind of movie it is and how well made it is.
An argument against being spoiled by results is that those who read books seems to be able to enjoy a movie based of books that they have read. Even though they know have the plot plays out they can still see the movie without being spolied.
If movie trailers would ruin the film experience then where are the people arguing against solving jigsaw puzzles? It's almost the same as a movie trailer with the entire picture in pieces. If a movie trailer is too much of a spoiler is the movie reviews also too much of a spoiler? My conclusion is that movie spoilers and and publishing starcraft 2 is not the same and the spoilers is not such a big deal.

A summary and a trailer will spoil your movie pretty clear though, and those are the things you look for when deciding to watch a movie or not.

I wouldn't call that spoiling though. At least if the trailer are semi intelligently put together.

I for one would love to have results on the front page. Take the last MLG, it was really cool, something great happened and I think the community should be filled with articles and news about it. And yet when I come on TL it feels like nothing happened. I have to dig through threads with spoiler tags to find anything about it and still it's kinda.. meh. EXACTLY! If you did not get to see IdrA vs Bomber 3 game set... OMG... Talk about EPIC 3 game set. Best 3 game series of the tournament and yet... no update about it... not a mention outside of the live broadcast and maybe page 700 whatever... and that's it. Are you kidding me? That's TvZ at it's finest with great late game transitions and everything.
Transitions? By that i suppose you mean build more marines right? Standard terran transition ^^ /jk
Seriously though, i think it should be about 24 hours before it comes up, because of the global nature of the game, but after that i would love a huge picture of huk/stephano/idra on the front page to celebrate

What a great thread! It's something I've been thinking a lot about also.
I'm surprised more people didn't go for the "Yes, but" poll option, it seems that a lot of people don't care about how others (regardless of whether it is the minority/majority) like to watch e-sports, which is just wrong in my opinion.
Personally I'm 50/50 on it, for some events I like to watch it all, and catch-up in my own time without being spoiled. For some other events, I just want to know who the hell the winner is and it would be great to have all these tournaments showcased on the main page.
Either way, when I'm doing the former I try to avoid TL anyway, it's way too easy for some douche troll to start a thread which basically announces the results, or for someone to post about results in a totally unrelated thread.
So in the end, it really is a non-issue for me personally, but it seems to be a big issue for some, so I went for the "Yes, but" option.
Regardless of whether the main page changes, I hope the forums stay the same and + Show Spoiler + continues to be used frequently.

I couldn't agree more. I'm a European and a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. Due to timezone differences, I'm very rarely able to watch an NFL game live. I do have NFL.com bookmarked, but if I plan on watching a 'Niners game from the day before, there's no way in hell, I'm going to click that link before I have done so.
Same goes for TL.net.
However, sometimes I know, that I'll simply not have enough time during the day to watch a 'Niners game or the rest of the SCII tourney that I had stopped watching during the quarter finals the night before. In that case I'm still interested in the results, and it took me a lot more clicks on TL.net to find out about IPL/Stephano and MLG/HuK, than it takes me to find out about the final score in the NFL games.

This!
I've been watching MLG all day and still no huge "This happened in the Open Bracket" or "Player A upset by Player B"

No spoilers on the main page.

How can there be spoilers for a LIVE event going on?
If this was Sunday, I could understand... but this is LIVE MLG on Saturday!

I think it is a very good idea as i just hate those who comment on threads "i hate you for spoiling! jeez!" this will teach them a lesson
^^ like the guy two post above me, far out man come on

i honestly didn't know it was the minority that is afraid of spoilers?

Obviously I wouldn't, if TL didn't have a spoiler policy.

Spoilers on main page please whenever, lets take e-sports to a real level.

i have a job. i cant stay up until 2 am to watch GSL, and i can't watch the games until i get home the next day around 6:30 p.m. i am sure many other people are in the same situation. its not as enjoyable to watch games where i know the result. if the tournament was 2-3 days ago, i don't care because i had the opportunity to watch and decided not to, but when i don't have a choice, why do you want to ruin it for me? keep discussion regarding games in the LR threads (which i do not look at because i don't want to be spoiler) or fan pages (which i dont care about spoilers because i expect them there), but dont put in the front page where i have no choice.

I agree with op on "spoiler fear" hurting e-sports. This site should be about building hype and enjoying discussion about recent events.
This policy affects newcomers that want to feel the things we feel when we watch games that we like.
