It was scrapped in alpha, never made it to beta.

All of these make Arb pretty damn worthless in SC2. You want to get rid of the mothership which can be used effectively against all these units if used properly with an arbiter which would just end up being a huge gas sink, and would be used just as rarely because Carriers suck and there are no corsairs.

How would it be a bad unit, do you realize the main use of Arbiters in BW was for cloak and recall? The only difference in having Arbiter instead of mothership would be the fact that you can make more than one. Right now all those things you mentioned against it cause the same issues for the mothership and any other spell caster.


The mothership has ways of couteracting all those units, and being kept safe.
Motherships cloaking field is longer range than arbiter, allowing it to stay further back than arbiters need to. It also has a significant amount of HP, which makes it EXCELLENT for tanking hits. You WANT Vikings and Mutalisks to waste time attacking the mothership. Arbiters you want to keep safe from any damage at all times, because they are fragile, and your army is significantly weaker by losing them. Mutalisks cannot fly in and pick off a mothership unless you have seriously fucked up... Vikings need to take time and effort to take down a mothership, which keeps them off your other air and colossi.
EMP doesn't affect mothership that seriously, because its strength isn't its spells, it is it's massive health and shields and long range cloak. Arbs with no shields and no energy are fragile and for the most part a liability.
Arbs rely on a good amount of micro and mobility to be effective, making fungal powerful on them. This is not the case with motherships.

You don't want to replace the mothership with the arbiter, trust me. Or just think that cuz you liked it in SC1 it must be awesome in SC2... I mean the carrier is in sc2 and it is just as awesome as it was in BW right!!!!!!!!!!111?

Tempest was a design a little different from the origin carrier...
the fighter drones called here shurrikans did make melee dmg
also the shield was like immortal but only to ground weapons while it was weak and normal to aTa attacks

Not to mention that arbiters main strength was to give protoss options versus late game terran siege lines and abuse their immobility and need for careful positioning. In SC2 terran doesn´t suffer from the same immobility problems.

If the arbiter were to be introduced in SC2, I´d guess its strongest spell would be stasis, if it has enough range, especially with the tighter clumping. Then protoss could stasis->move army in to position-> force field -> let zealots whack away at them.

Seeing how the Terran unit's silhouette was posted at exactly 8 pm, I wouldn't be surprised if the Protoss unit was released at a similar time. I'm pretty much checking TL and FB every few minutes right now to catch a glimpse of it.

Unless Blizzard forgot about it entirely, which would be a shame.

New theory on the Protoss unit.

Observe that it hasn't been "released" yet. However, perhaps it actually is already released, but we just can't see it on the page. Perhaps it is cloaked, which is the reason why we don't see it on the Facebook page.

Browder said in a recent interview that he wants a new Protoss raider. Cloaking would be a logical ability for a raider, especially considering that a perma-cloaked, high-DPS, low-durability raider would be perfect for Protoss.

Therefore, I think the new unit will be the Dark Templar.
