Hi,

I used to play on EU server but I'now living in Korea for four month.
I tried to play on EU server but there is so much delay, is it viable to play on NA server from Korea ?
I don't have korean account yet and in case I don't get one I would like to know if it's possible !

Thank you

Latency is playable... maybe 0.5 second delay.

Better to live in NA and play in korea then go from Korea to NA, but it is definatly playable. Make sure you have good down/up before bothering though...

depending on your connection and time of day there will be a delay of .5 to almost 1 second. definitely playable most of the time, but ive given up trying to ladder at master level.

In regards to this, and I don't mean to derail or take away from your thread, but would I have to buy another game client to play on the Korea server? I've been thinking of laddering there. Any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

0.5 to 1 second sounds quite awful. It must be very frustrating.

It's not the worst. You'll miss the occasional clinch forcefield, and it's really hard to do some queu actions cleanly, but I never lost a game because of the latency.

You do, and I believe you need a Korean SSN to have an account there, so I don't think you can directly buy a copy yourself. I'm sure there are Koreans selling their accounts though or if you have a friend there, just ask if you can use his SSN.

You can buy a taiwanese account, and play on the tw/kr server. You don't to use any personal number for that.

The latency isn't bad from Korea to NA, I played on it for a year. You'll be fine.

I play from western australia and get about 400ms or so. Its fairly playable, although big battles can be quite hard (HT vs ghost or infestor etcetc).

I play on NA from Korea all the time. The lag is hardly noticeable (better than SC1 by a mile, and generally better than playing WC3 with observers).

However, you have to get your hands on an NA client. Most Korean stores and PCbangs will only use Korean clients.

It's not that bad, even when I play on EU from inside the EU on a 20 meg connection I get 0.1-0.2 second delay. A lot of the Koreans have NA accounts that they play in some cups (such as the geforce one) and some occationaly ladder. I doubt they would if there was too much of a delay as they would basically be wasting their time otherwise.

That's not accurate at all. For one, Blizzard blocks pings to their servers so you will only trace so far. Also, Starcraft 2 adds a delay in games due to it's networking, so whatever your actual ping is to us.battle.net for example, your in game latency will be higher.

As an example I have around 110ms latency to European servers, but my actual in game latency is 300-330ms. You can measure actual latency by recording your screen and counting frames between order issued and order performed, but of course you need to have already own an account to do this. Your only other option is to get an answer from someone who lives in Korea and plays on US server.

I'm living in Korea now, and my first few months here I played on the NA server. Latency was proably about 500ms, maybe a little less - didn't really notice it that much tbh. That being said, when I got a Korean account and started playing PC bangs, I completely stopped playing on NA server because the latency was so annoying. So, when I didn't know any better, it was fine, but once I experienced 0-50ms... O.o

Playing on NA server from Korea isn't that bad. The latency is a hell of a lot better than playing Brood War from Korea.

My God I remember so many BW games I felt like I was playing underwater or something. SC2 I barely notice it.

it's not too bad, but you will definitely notice the delay. It's about .5 seconds.

I second this, it took some time before I figured it all out but a Taiwanese account is dirt cheap and you can play on KR server with it.
