Damn, that really sucks...part of what NASL did great was have a really good Finals Day, I'm doubtful with so many Koreans absent that S2 will be good as S1 finals >____<

As more time goes on I am getting more and more sick of the korean scenes overall attitude. Could just be a vocal minority but they sure do believe their proverbial crap don't stink.

Considering the foreign scene is much larger than korea in regards to SC2 I feel we owe them nothing at all and they should jump at a chance to give themselves a stronger foot hold in the foreign scene.

If everything in the post is truthful and not deceptive, then i'm not impressed with the Korean teams on this one.

Of course i don't think many of them really cared about NASL anyway, given the lag and time of day. It sounded from the few comments i've heard from coaches and players that participating was a pain in the arse. So my assumption is that they've all got together and tried to throw their weight around to get more out of the deal.

I'm kinda disappointed in NASL for bending over, but at the same time respect their eagerness. I'm actually glad they didn't accept the revised offers in the end, because i'd hate to see such unprofessional, whiny dealings to have actually had an effect.

As for hurting quality of NASL, In the end i never took the Korean matches seriously because of the lag factor, so for me this wont actually end up hurting the weekly league one bit. Finals, sure but I pray NASL aren't doing a finals qualifier thing again like last time. I hated that so fucking much. If you don't participate in the season you shouldn't be able to get into the finals.

If this is going to be the 'foreigner only' tournament, then i'm kinda glad there's one. The Koreans themselves might have given Catz his wish.

All in all i'm fine this, and disappointed in the Koreans attitude.

I already have the gsl for that.

When koreans started playing in more tournaments such as the nasl, or the exchange with mlg I was pumped. But now its starting to become lame and I kind of want the older more exciting matches back.

Speak for yourself. Columbus and Anaheim were way more exciting because of the koreans. I wasn't excited when naniwa won Dallas and it was a pretty ho hum event especially with all the tech problems.

I can't believe it's so cheap for roundabout trip between Korea and NASL. Either way, the post attempts to stigmitize the Korean is wrong. You think antagonizing the Koreans will increase your viewers, NASL? Sorry, either way I've lost complete interest in the NASL now, no way am i willing to pay for a season pass now.

See, this is what I don't get. This was my reaction on reading the OP too, but it's the exact opposite of what the game at large needs to see. Nationalism over a video game is pretty silly.

I'll still watch and appreciate the NASL because it's not in me to put koreans on a pedestal just for being korean. It's too bad they won't be playing, but it isn't the end of the world (and the NASL will do fine once people grow up and watch games with slightly less good players in them).

I sure as hell did. Columbus and Anaheim were waaaay better than Dallas for me, simply because of the quality of the games.

LOL For some reason I'm happy about what is happening here. I won't watch nasl if there is no korean players in it like IPL. But i also won't be watching nasl if there is too many korean players.

Quite a blow to NASL, and I must admit I have lost in it as a result of this; it seems like MLG has no competition as the definitive US tournament now.

Your talking about size vs quality?
Can't stand the people in this thread that are OK with inferior play at international events.
Why so much Korean hate? I want to watch the best! The koreans know they are the best so why not ask for special treatment? Its not like they don't have plenty of other venues open to them.
Bottom line is they don't need the NASL, the NASL (IMO) needs them to be taken seriously as a league....

*edit: it will stay this way till the rest of the world steps their games up a notch.....

One thing for sure is that travel is very expensive, and traveling from Korea is more expensive than from Europe or anywhere in North America.

Not surprising to see the anti-korean mob mentality at full force tonight. People love to jump to conclusions and put the blame on one party(Just look at the TSL drama between the coach and its players). It is most likely both parties involved have valid reasons not to continue.

Reasons might be valid, but unless NASL is straight-up lying behaviour of Korean teams was pretty low.

So the worst the Korean players can do is break even, and the best is bringing back $40,000? Thank god the SC2con stepped in here to prevent this massive injustice from taking place.

You're not at all concerned that we are essentially getting a worse product?

Not if Western tournaments are made into Korean piggy banks, I don't see teams like Dignitas or EG demanding upwards of 2k for stipends to travel.

Really?

There were plenty of calls (demands, if you will) to make Code A more accessible to foreign players because it apparently isn't appealing enough as it is. And GOM has actually responded to that by partnering with MLG and handing out invites to pretty much every notable foreigner that shows up in Korea regardless of the exchange program. Considering how brutally hard the qualifiers are, that's quite a reward in itself.

Of course, not everybody can make the same demands - there's much more weight to the demands of teams that have the best players in the world than the teams whose players mostly get rolled over every single MLG.

Asking for invitations to Code A is rather different from asking for money.

No, it really isn't.

Without a Code A invitation you could be locked into playing qualifiers for months (think about Bomber, DRG, MMA) before making it in. GOM has essentially cut off up to 2-3 months of expenses for foreign players by handing out Code A invites. Let's not forget that they also provide accommodation and even a direct Code S spot for MLG winner.

If you think invites are so cheap, then why not suggest that NASL invites up to 8 Koreans directly to the Top 16 live event? That might just be more appealing to sc2con teams.

Besides, the complaint about Code A was specifically that "it's not worth it financially". So nobody asked for invites, it was GOM who came up with that themselves.

You hit the nail on the head on this one. Its NO different then GOM giving "foreigners" special privileges... Watching code A the other night was a joke, there is no question in my mind that Koreans are miles ahead of the rest of the world. If you want to watch inferior play with "home favorites" then NASL just like IPL will give you that. I will have to stick to the GSL and MLG since I want to see pros at the highest lvl...

And while the foreigners have had special treatment at GSL, so have the Koreans at MLG. They get treated like royalty at MLG. They win all the money, are seeded right into group play, get their own practice area and so on.

Lets not act like the foreigners playing in Code A is the only part of the deal here, Koreans have made it out pretty damn well in that deal too.

Um... yeah.

And that is why they're still going to MLG.

So what's your point?

That the Korean teams shouldn't expect special treatment that isn't given to foreign teams as well. They should be treated equally. And that Korean teams need to operate better so they can afford these trips. With $1000 in travel expenses covered by NASL, that leaves them with about $500-$700 to come up with. Thats not that much money. Especially when their player is going to win $1,000 minimum.

Will NASL be holding qualifers all over again to determine who fills up the missing spots? I'm pretty sure the Slayers team wouldn't mind trying it out since they aren't bound by SC2con. The unfortunate thing about making so many demands is that they've just cut themselves short of another source of tournament winnings - when their scene is clearly lacking in money at the moment.

I wouldn't be too worried, foreigner vs foreigner finals tend to be really good, the reason GSL finals tend to be so disappointing is because of the huge skill gap between the really good koreans versus the godly koreans, foreeigners tend to be a lot more even matched.

I worry that this will hurt the worldwide scene somehow, I hope that we can get the rest of the story here and that something can be worked out, I would hate to see koreans not coming to foreign events or foreign events not inviting koreans because of something like this :/
