I want "foreigners" to win money, so foreigners can afford to be a pro gamer.
I'm all smiles! I'm glad they don't want our money! Fuck em!

What kind of racist drivel is this? The Koreans are all macrobots who slave away in dark houses and have no personality? Come on. The Koreans are better than the foreigners because they practice better and practice with better players. Quality of practice matters more than quantity

And for the fact that the NASL has only made it about them demanding more money has shown what kind of organisation they are. Sure that happened, but there are alot of other factors that went into this decision but they made the korean teams out to seem greedy and unreasonable, and that is just NOT THE CASE. If anyone knows what koreans are like they dont take decision's like this lightly, this takes away the possibility of one of the players earning an easy $40k.

People(*cough kids*) on TL always eager to take out the pitchforks and not think about the other side. Based on how NASL is run I am not completely surprised at all and the fact they use aggressive words to paint the picture of the sc2con. Whatever.

I have to believe this also has a lot to do with how shitty NASL ran season one in the opinion of the players, they would probably have been more eager to return if it was actually an enjoyable experience, which for many it was not.

I'm sure the players who didn't enjoy the experience are perfectly capable of making their own decision to not participate.

Why is it that the organization FORBID ALL players from playing, even those that may want to?

I can't imagine that there's not a single Korean who doesn't want to return, especially after reading some of their interviews.

It's collective bargaining, they're more likely to have their demands, for instance no one seems to care that Naniwa isn't going to be in NASL season 2 because he made that decision independently.

Can someone let me know how much money GSL pays for foreigners to participate in the GSL (a month long tournament)?

For foreigners who are invited through MLG exchange programing it is all expenses paid for a month.

So that is food, accomadations and travel to and fromm the venue etc.

and for those who are not part of the limited exchange program?

It depends on the tournament. For example, in the GSL Word Championship Tournament, all the foreign invitees had travel, lodging, and accommodations paid for and they got 2,700 dollars just for participating.

You're not at all concerned that we are essentially getting a worse product?

Not if Western tournaments are made into Korean piggy banks, I don't see teams like Dignitas or EG demanding upwards of 2k for stipends to travel.

I love watching my favourite foreign players play, but results clearly state Koreans are favoured and I love watching the highest level play not only for pleasure, but to learn from. I'll still probably watch, but NASL is going to lose a lot of potential viewers over this. I'm not bashing NASL or anything - if what was written in the OP is honest, than they gave it their best to bring the Koreans in and it's a shame that things didn't work out. Hopefully the success of the season 1 finals brings enough new viewers to make up the deficit.

This isn't about money. That has been made clear over and over by people in this thread.

This is about one of a few things:

1) Koreans trying to squeeze out NASL so that GSL remains number 1
2) They're pissed off at the EG/PuMa thing and they don't want that to repeat
3) They're pissed off at the hours of play and don't want to go through it again
4) They hate the tournament format for the finals and think its a waste of time

There may be other reasons, but those are the ones I can think of.

What I don't understand is why they went through the trouble of giving NASL an ultimatum. They clearly had no intention of competing to begin with. NASL has basically agreed to cover all travel costs...

1) is laughable because right now there are several tournaments that NASL needs to be better than to come close to GSL

3) probably isn't so because they all knew what they were getting themselves into prior to applying for season2 - huge prize pool is worth the hassle

2) and 4) are most probably the reason. it's only logical from korean pov

2 and 4 is most definitely the reason... as their players are not on contracts.

That's what I'm thinking too. It doesn't help that there is a flurry of foreign teams signing koreans right now.

You know, I was happy watching the "low quality" stream (which was pretty damn good anyway), but now I'm buying season 2. Just to offset the people bailing because of something the NASL has no control over.
So you know, cats are interesting. They are kind of like girls. If they come up and talk to you, it's great. But if you try to talk to them, it doesn't always go so well. - Shigeru Miyamoto

I would love to hear a statement of sc2con to get both sides. Anyway if this is true, and the nasl seems very legitimate so far i have to say i am pretty dissapointed by the korean teams. They screwed the nasl up pretty badly. All those qualifiers are meaningless.
I really really hope they are going to be more qualifiers because to do invites of the curren ro16 players or smth would be unfair to those who lost in the first rounds to a korean who has withdrawn now.
I think for me personally its going to be more intresting because i love my foreigners

Especially when they are the ones most likely to win just the $1000 while the Koreans go further in the tournament

NASL needs to be bold here and capitalize on this fervor and any sympathy people have for them due to the sc2con's unprofessionalism.

Take the money you were going to give to the Koreans (or at least some of it) and raise the prize pool.

Invite fan favorites and good foreigners who were knocked out in the open bracket like Nerchio, Dimaga, and Major. Invite Stephano and invite Goody back (he has improved a ton).

Assembly and EU Blizzcon qualifier have proven that fan support will be there for foreigners. It's probably better this way because these players have much more intriguing stories, speak English, and NASL won't overextend itself financially to make ridiculous concessions.

Because if NASL turns around and tells them to go jump after they 'ask for help for travel expenses', they don't look bad.

I agree with most of this post except the bolded part, put the money into production value to silence all these haters.

Yea its really unfortunate the number of viewers NASL is gonna lose here, but i guess they did all they could. Its not really reasonable to blame either side. NASL still loses in the end here though =(

I certainly wont be watching nearly as many days thats for sure. Maybe the finals thats about it. With all the koreans i was definitely considering getting an HD pass again (even though i wasnt very happy with what i got for the last one) but with all the koreans in it and NASL saying KR vs KR would be played on the korean server i was getting rather excited. Now though, there is no way id pay for it when i can watch something like IPL for free.

-.- NASL has had their share of issues and their share of complaints and their share of quality control issues, but what has not been an issue is an interaction with the community. Their map choices have been voted on by the community. Community complaints usually generate a good attempt to fix it. They aren't bad people- unfortunate and unexperienced in some ways, but I wouldn't go as far as to say slanderous.

Its not whatever- its a precedent to set. Do Koreans get a special deal? What about Europeans? Foreigners were invitees to the World Championship, and more than just plane tickets, they stayed for quite a few days (almost half a month). This is one weekend's worth of lodging- it is not really comparable. Yes Koreans add a special element, but should they get VIP treatment whereas others do not?
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
