Can't beat them? Buy them!

But really, this is pretty great for both parties involved.

Like foU obviously is a significantly more profitable team, in the sense of potential tournament success in korea and around the world. The FXO higher-ups will make more money with fOu in the mix, so was this for money, or was it really for e-sports?

I fail to see why or how fxo buying fOu has a major impact for e-sports in a positive way? In general, if FXO never bought fOu, nothing negative would actually happen to e-sports. Likewise if FXO buys fOu, nothing significant happens for e-sports as whole, just all of a sudden. This acquisition only really effects the person who bought fOu, and the marketing of the FXO brand.

But I guess time will tell.

Well all its going to mean is more korean domination at foreign tourneys if they decide to send players overseas from the team. Which they probably, eventually will.

Holy shit.

Now my question is: What do the Korean netizens think of this?

Considering how malicious they are towards Slayers Boxer, Jessica and Eve, I'm inclined to not give a shit what they think at all. I don't know why anyone, including FXO or FOU, needs their approval for anything.

what? you're saying korean starcraft 2 fans don't matter for a team playing in Korea?
the majority of people malicious towards jessica & eve are "DC" people
(basically think of it as the korean version of 4chan /b/)
anyways, the response is generally positive (yet to read a negative comment really)
because it's a step towards gsl/gstl, and starcraft 2 in general to be more global.
as others have said, people will miss the name fOu since it's such a traditional clan/team
from SCBW days.

It is positive because FXOBaNKROLL can send his fleet of jets to Korea and when there, they can retrieve the fOu team, their friends, and families and fly them to all of the foreign events, where they will up the level of competition and quality at said events.

Fou wasn't really winning prize money or gaining sponsors on the own so I doubt it was too much, especially because Boss said they won't be getting salaries yet until they have results. That said, I imagine a team like oGs or IM would be pretty expensive to acquire seeing as they already have lucrative sponsorships and players who make large sums of money through prize winnings already,

I actually agree with him. FXO gave him a signed jersey after winning one game. And they probably took the idea to heart while watching.

No doubt they are going to cut people from the team. Sheth and QXC will probably get to stay though. Others will be cut loose. Loyalty means jack without results.

I do agree players might/should be cut. But then, I think there are a fair number of players on teams that should be cut. But you can't build a team completely on tournament performing monsters. At least, I don't think you can. I think you need a solid base of extremely good in house players for your star players to practice against. And the talent pool isn't exactly there to just acquire them (maybe when BW contracts are up in KR?) you currently need to grow your own players into stars.

But anyway, it's fun to watch. I want to see how this transpires. I want to see Leenock go to MLG, huge fanboy. =)

You obviously have no clue on how much money teams make. FXO actually at this point I would value (before the fOu merger) as not only the more valuable team, but probably a hell lot more profitable also.

Some of you sound silly. fxopen.com is a business. He is not just throwing money away to something he likes, although I am sure this does happen.

Doesn't it make more sense that his teams time in Korea in the GSTL has given more exposure/visitors and in turn revenue to his business? Since it was not meant to be a permanent stay, it is only logical that he would purchase a permanent team in which to advertise his business in a market that he is seeing growth in.

Any yes, this does help e-sports. Personally I hate all the "do this to grow esports" bs that is thrown around, but sponsors seeing value in their investment is only good for the scene. If he is seeing a decent ROI, it encourages other businesses to delve into advertising in the game you love as well.

Anyway, hope all the best for fxo. Takes balls to try out new advertising angles and is always refreshing to see.

I'm surprised that fOu was doing so poorly (I think this is a fair assumption that if they were doing well they would not have changed at all, if it's not broken etc).

Regardless don't think this could turn out poorly for FXO having Korean friends like TL has oGs.

would be interested to know what figures you have. they (team/players) haven't won anything afaik. they've just been incuring expenditure staying in korea and flying all over.

i really question how much this will help the fxo.international team. i'm happy for fOu and choya. seems a great coach and fella. but i dont miss his play

Wow, this is pretty big news for FXO/ former fOu. FXO just stepped up its game so much, I wonder what will happen for the team league (as in if teams can change rosters mid-season).

Clearly fOu players now have access to more money. I obviously don't know the details of the contract, but the players have more money to travel and enter more tournaments, and maybe get paid more as well by the team. In exchange FXO gets more brand recognition. It's a win-win situation, or else both parties would not have agreed.

This is good for e-sports. The way that e-sports pulls in more money is through sponsorship and the more money that e-sports pulls in, the better. It means more good players can play professionally and travel to events, more tournaments can be held with better production value and bigger prize pools, and more potential sponsors who will take notice and consider investing in e-sports.

The only downside is that "choya.fOu" was my favorite player name to say.

It probably should be pointed out that it doesn't seem like fOu had too many sponsors. So they might also have been in a rough place at the time being. So it's very likely this works best for both parties.

But, the fun bit is that we can probably except to see Leenock, sC and Gumiho at some MLGs in the near future, which should be awesome. And the FXOpen guys will be able to train, daily, with the FXOKorea guys. That'll be good for everyone.

Also, isn't this the first Title-Sponsored Korean SC2 team? Interesting that.

I foresee Sheth scouting out small apartments near the fOu house in the near future.
