As far as I know, no RTS has ever survived to even see the day of its first expansion without some catering to the "hardcore, competitive" fanbase. And Blizz surely knows that. By scaring away the hardcore fans, they would inevitably also use the casual players.

Bronze players come and - now - mostly go, and they will lose interest if the game won't survive on a competitive level. So one should not lightly disregard what 20% of the active users have to say. Since we have map vetos, it should be no issue to have maps tailored for a specific league in the pool.

Actually, they are adding 4 rush-maps, which 2 have rocks, and one macro map, to help those Terrans rush their Zerg opponents early, making ZvT earlygame even more of a living hell if the T uses hellions. Also, Blizzards balance team has said that they are looking into ZvT lategame, is Z imba or not. + Show Spoiler + What I said about hellions: They are not imba, I am just not skilled enough to defend them.

I don't say I'm super skilled either, but watching even pro ZvT games that proceed to the 13-14 minute mark without a clear favorite is just painful to my eyes.. The macro of zergs is crazy after some point and the ease of taking extra expos while denying the Teran's is pretty absurd. So I think you have to do some early damage as T just to be able to create an army which will allow you to get SOME map control and go into a balanced late game. Watch the recent Destiny vs Bomber match (game 1 I think) to see what I mean... Dead infestors everywhere, still he couldn't defend his 3rd and 4th. Btw good spine crawler placement and not making drone-trains will help you a lot vs early hellions. Also I'm glad if blizz actually introduces smaller maps again!
