It can be a lot of fun to play these games and also look quite impressive if you are good at them (as good as this guy ;p)
+ Show Spoiler +

but whenever there was a thread on TL where people were asked to post their results from mouse accuracy games or multitasking games and their skill at bw/sc2, there was no correlation between their skill in bw/sc2 and their skill in missionred (etc.) games.

So if you really want to improve at sc2 you should probably focus on other things.

I suspect that memorizing hand distances in windows wouldn't be very helpful unless you have the same distances in Starcraft.

6/11 in Windows and 51% in SC2 is 1:1 without pixel skipping.

More HERE, author recommends 8/11 and 72% for 400 dpi.

Ya'll may laugh at me for the game that I am world-class at, but in reality, it requires a shit ton of the same kind of skills that you need in other popular PC games and requires a good 180-200 APM.

The game is a custom scenario on Warcraft III called Sheep Tag. I was the main map developer for 5 years, played and placed well in world-wide tournaments, and still, today, help manage the community.

The problem with using those games to improve mouse accuracy is you will only be improving accuracy for those games. While your reflexes might be getting a work out, you need to actually practice within SC2 to really improve your SC2 mousing skills. Do something similar to what you were trying to accomplish with that png you made. Move as smoothly as possible from unit to unit, increasing your speed and difficulty of task gradually over time. Eventually you will get better with active practice and dedication.

I agree that acceleration can over complicate your mousing motion. I don't use it, but others seem to find great success with it. The disadvantage is obviously a drop in accuracy. However, acceleration lets you move from point to point more efficiently and with less effort. That advantage can be a significant factor in a fast game.

Again, I do not use those games to improve my mouse accuracy. I use that little image. Furthermore, I do not use this image to improve my SC2 skills. I use it to improve mouse accuracy. I use the GAMES to benchmark progress. Numbers are always helpful.

If you have 1:1 accuracy in windows:sc2 it really should carry over. It shouldn't matter if you're using a image or ingame, that being said there's no real reason not to practice in game, unless you're at work or can't.

Also 500k discdash is pretty impressive, I'd almost like to see a vod to see how fast/accurate you're cursor is.

Disc dash is soooooo easy. After it gets to the highest difficult, I can pretty much never miss unless I get distracted. Reflexte is the hard one.

The reason I practice with the image is so that I can improve precision at my own pace. In a REAL game, I'm focusing on a lot more than just precision. This gives me a chance to tend to those needs without any distraction.

That is what my friend says, but most people move their mouse unconsciously and wont improve without conscious practice. Zerg players, for example, don't have anything obvious to micro and can't practice it in game. However, with mouse precision, they can do micro on the fly. The first four zerglings have only a ten second micro window, but forcing the opponent to make addition lings is a pretty big deal. IdrA is one of the best zergs imo becuase his mouse movement are so smooth from his BW days.

Lately Ive been practicing making boxes from every direction, and Ive noticed im really good at going from bottom right to top left (which its generally harder to make boxes upwards from what Im seeing). Ive been wondering why that is for awhile.

So today I was bored an went through flash games when I stumbled on one I played a lot in high school. You defend your castle from attackers by dragging the people up a certain height and then drop them. After a few rounds I was like, OH, this must be why!

I guess you had to be there for it to be funny

Wait a minute, if this is about mouse accuracy/acceleration/movements/improvements, then why is it in the SC2 General section?

Seems more like just General section to me.....

Unless you are saying that these mouse practices will help SC2?

ive wondered if the key to being good to those games is to have a very high sensitivity on your mouse with some amount of acceleration, its very difficult for me to imagine ever being very good and accurate with my current settings (mid-high sensitivity, no accel)

@Sadist,

It's all about precision. If you know that you're going to click on something when you move your mouse (as opposed to tracing the mouse and making sure the mouse is above the target before you click), you can click on like 5 targets in a second.
