Sorry if this is brought up. But I just ran into a guy (gtlguido) that did this weird pause surrender/victory. Luckily I didn't fall for it.
Was wondering if anyone has run into it...
so I basically roflstomped this toss player and as I took down his whole army he paused the game and quickly left. Seeing that I saw he left I pressed F10 to bring up the menu and it didn't say score screen, it said Surrender. I unpaused it before hand thinking maybe this guy is doing that trick where you type "Has left the game" and thinking I was stupid enough to fall for it. But as soon as I unpaused it immediately said I won.
I wrote to him and basically talked trash. Looked at his rank and saw he was a bronze. Which is kind of weird cause I'm diamond and I usually play plat/diamonds.
So to my understanding is that this guy is doing some trick to pause and leave at the same time. hoping I click surrender instead of unpause. Then taking a "free" win.
I looked at his last few games and he has like 25 wins and maybe like 5-8 losses total. So to my understanding is that he either cheated those some of those wins and people fell for his scam.
Anyone seen this? Is it a hack? a glitch? a trick?

The pause button is right above the surrender button. If he's bronze he's probably a clicker, could just be a simple misclick.
|
this is very old, and if you fall for it he deserves the win
why would it be a hack to pause and then type "has left the game" ?
|
Well he "won" in under a minute, so he's going to be punished the way Blizzard intends portrait farmers to be punished.... I think. And yeah, I've encountered it on ladder before. I forgot what I did though....

I understand that, but it doesn't explain why it said "surrender" on my side when I wanted to look at the score screen.
|
This happened to me a week or so ago. I demolished a bronze Protoss player and there was a simultaneous pause and "has left the game". Without thinking I just hit what I assumed was "score screen" but I realized too late that it really said "surrender." It shows as a loss in my match history but whenever I try to look at the score screen it just says there is an error.
|
Actually it could just be an accident. A couple times I've gone for surrender but missed and hit pause. Realising that I've hit pause instead of surrender, I hit surrender within the same second I've hit pause causing a "Error loading page" screen to appear on my half and no record of the game xD. I think I still lose points but haven't bothered to check

every 20th game i pause before leaving just cause of missclicking ... can happen
|
Yeah, annoying, especially since EVERYTIME I unpause they leave almost immediately, without fail.
But I got around since on a Laptop and have Fn (FN+PGUP,FN+PGDN) keys that are by default associated with pause/unpause, so as soon as it gets paused and no score screen option comes up I instantly unpause via hotkeys

I'm confused, isn't surrender N.
Maybe its just me but after Starcraft 2 being out for nearly a year I've never fallen for this. Though I have had this happen to me a few times, both with [Opponent] has left the game! and the pause version of it.. I'm confused how anyone falls for this.
Score screen- S key. Surrender- N key. After playing a 5-55 minute game where you have to pay attention to the biggest and the smallest details, why would you blindly mouse click surrender O.o
But my main point- Why use the mouse at all? Press F10 then S every time and if it doesn't work, he's screwing with you.

LOL, you already have a 'hotkey'. Look for "Pause/Break" button.

The game end condition is checked repeatedly in a short time, let's say in 1-2 seconds. The game end condition is probably not checked while the game is paused.
So if a player pauses the game and leaves shortly after that (in less than a second), when you open the menu, it will still show the Surrender button because the game end condition has not yet been checked since the pause.
Don't fall for this, always resume and hit Score screen while the game is unpaused.

Thank you for understanding this post. I still feel like this guy tried cheating me. I can't help but see a bronze player have a pretty good W/L ratio against Gold-Diamonds. He must've cheated and tricked some of those wins.
I can tell his micro wasn't that good either since a lot his units were left standing there and his forcefields were really off. He definitely played at a really low level but got a lot of his wins through his trick.

Yep, I only use that one for the obvious reasons. If my opponent pauses without saying a thing right the moment his loss became obvious, I always press that one.

You can Unpause with the Pause Key on your Keyboard AND even if he pauses the game before leaving it might just take some more time before you'll get that win in your match stats. Btw.: i'm also a clicker when it comes to leaving a game ^^
|
this used to be a bug that would break the results in the score screen and mess with your matchmaking win/loss, i'm pretty sure it's been fixed
|
If the game is paused and you press surrender AFTER your opponent does, who gets the win?
|
It happened to me, I said gg and wanted to leave, too lazy to use f10+n I clicked and I missclicked on pause, then surrender. No big deal it's just a missclick.
