It kinda seems that way for everything here in NA. Talk shows, coaching, tourneys, streams, youtube channels, twitter and facebook accounts... so many things in a very short time span. Cash in now when the irons hot, in 2-3 years when the Korean scene takes over, the bubble will burst, the companies will have made their money and the NA scene will dwindle in numbers and the only people remaining will be the truly passionate about sc2.
On what facts your statement is based on? Or is this more of that famous Internet theorycrafting.

Right but its only better if the whole truth isn't found out. In which case its always worst. And as history has shown us, the whole truth is eventually revealed.

Oh man! I don't know if I agree with that statement. There's probably a whole web of lies and horseshit we probably don't know about and never will.
But we're digressing ...

This. After you live with EG members during SC2 Beta and for the year afterwards.. You learn about some pretty dick things EG does. Shit, you shoulda saw how EG treated their SC players when BW was still popular.
But EG is a business and the it's goal is to be able to support their players, please their sponsors, and do what it takes to stay ahead of the competition. It's just like any business in today's world.

Yeah, history wasnt the right word. I meant history as in SC2 history (recent dramas involving teams).

Because we're watching his freaking show! These guys are SC personalities, public figures which are accountable to the public, just like businesses are accountable to people who buy their stuff.
People don't get to make money and popularity by the goodwill and purchase decisions of the community without having to deal with the pitfalls of fame. It's that simple.

People are always looking for the next big thing, it's the American way. All about money, make it when its hot, get out before it cools.
Look at MMO's. There were a few before WoW, tight nit communities. Couple million people playing. WoW comes out, huge hit... millions of people playing money being made hand over fist, all of a sudden MMO's popping up everywhere, looking, hoping for the next big thing only to fail, or break even at best
This applies to alot of different areas. TV shows like survivor, American idol.. those shows come on the scene and before you know it you have the next big thing popping up, The amazing race, big brother, so you think you can dance, america has talent etc etc.
Always evolving, most things being a hit for a few years and then fading away in the spotlight to be replaced with something else with only the dedicated and passionate left over to keep everything afloat.
Internet theorycrafting?? Maybe. Just my view on the situation at hand
lots of people in the race right now, we just have to wait and see who will finish first

After reading all the posts and listening to the show I am much more comfortable with what happened. It sounds like it was much more a coincidence of bad circumstances that snowballed into what happened, than any vindictive conflict between sponsers. The reason that most of the people on here have such hate for EG is simply because they are unaware of how business works, and felt cheated out of a great personality. After listening to what Alex had to say, I cant see how people would still be upset over it.
It would be nice if InControl went back to STOG but I would understand if he didnt. I hope that Scoots And/Or Alex know that the big silent group of people (perhaps older?) understand that circumstances like this happen all the time in the real world. I for one am thankful that things have been cleared up and explained.
I hope both shows succeed, best of Luck STOG and ITG. They were only honest after it was accidentally leaked on Inc's stream. I'm disgusted not only that they tried to lie about it, but also that they tried to ruing sotg and replace it with itg which is (imo) a poor replacement. Nothing against Wheat, but he's much better at giving the old guy / no bullshit perspective than the broing out atmosphere that both sotg and itg try to achieve. + itg lacks tyler and day.
EDIT: Money ruins everything, but if EG had just been honest, saying basically they were trapped between sponsors they couldn't control, I'd be much more sympathetic to them, whereas now I'm just angry at what I see as a desperate attempt at Scoots to have his candy and eat it too.

Well, they need viewers to attract sponsors, and they need sponsors to make money, and money is apparently the root of e-sports success. O_O

Here's the problem.
MMOs still exist. EVE's puttering along, as is City of Heroes and several others. They all live alongside WoW just fine. New games come out, some of them work, some of them don't.
Survivor, despite my own personal predictions years ago, still exists. I think Big Brother and a few of their also-rans are around. Years after the fact. Also, new reality shows come out, some work, and some don't.
In both cases, they created genres. Places where new things could live and exist, when they didn't exist before. And while the crap-work that came out in the attempt to flood the market faded away, the diamonds in those genres still exist and shine through.
Reality TV isn't a fad. MMOs aren't a fad. There may have been a popularity boom when they were first introduced, but neither genre is in any danger of going away.
Hold'Em Poker? The jury's still out on that one, but it certainly has increased its following from when it was obscure.
Sometimes, fads are just fads; they show up and disappear. And sometimes fads grab onto something. They hang around. Competitive fighting games have never been more popular; will it last? Maybe. Maybe not. Only time will tell. But a sudden surge of popularity does not mean that something is destined to exist only for a few years then die.

So was the whole show about this drama or was there actual SC2 content as well? Cause if it is I think I ll just skip this weeks episode...
|
The fundamental problem (if there is one) is imo that sotg was replaced with an inferior show (until now at least, I would never wake up at 5am to listen to itg like I was doing for sotg) only because of money issues. I know that money is needed, I'm not saying money is bad. It's just sad that the business leaders of this community are often offering lesser products than what the community, non business driven products were offering. Being professional in starcraft seems to mean making money, not offering a good product. Yeah, this industry is very good at creating hype, but not very good at living up to that hype. (it's a general observation, not especially about itg)

There was content other than this bullshit at the end of it that people keep going on about.

Yeah a lot of Protoss questions phoned in for Inc.

I like inside the game, but I really enjoyed SotG. I really wish instead of replacing they could have come to some sort of consensus with each other. I know this sounds like a far-fetched idea, but it would have been nice to see them work together.
