Then some IDIOT shows me GSL and I was like "zomg I wanna be like marineking" So I started trying to improve, things were not going well. I then found team liquid and various other leagues and got very very very into SC2. I went from bronze to high plat in about 3 weeks! I was on top of the world. I then slogged my way into diamond! I was in the top league and walked around like the cat that got the cream. 4 days later Master League was released "fml" I then carried on playing and was kinda at a wall... I then watch Day9 Daily #100 and after drying my eyes approached the game with a whole new perspective. At the end of Season 1 I was in Master League! I was rather chuffed to say the least. I have continued to improve and I am getting better by the day as I learn more and more... I am now highly ranked Masters and aiming for Grandmaster and putting a little UK team together. SC2 is now becoming a huge part of my life. I hope this is not too distant from what the OP wanted but I feel it is fun to share! Much love Slyce

The same thing happened to us. We lost 3 games in a row and won the fourth one ... and we got promoted into platinium league (currently rankd 5th, but I think we were 7th or 8th after the promotion) ! I think the ladder lock caused this double promotion but it's still quite strange to us ![]()

Don't you think you would be grand master already if you spent the same playing SC2 instead of watching Day[9]? ![]()

also, for one of my friends, he started in bronze and laddered each day in school. he was frustrated because he wasn't getting promoted. however, when i was watching him play one game, i announced to him, you're going to get promoted, and bam, he was in silver. i think he almost cried from happiness. then after that another friend (in gold at the time) was playing and once again i announced he was going to get promoted. little did i know he actually did, and this caused me to play 13 games in a row to get to platinum as well. i'm so proud of my ability to guess when people are promoted. :D

Got my own beta invite a week later, and got bronze, and eventually platinum (when it was the highest at the time). Then they came out with diamond, and got that eventually before beta ended. On release, got placed in diamond, but was in low diamond til I watched a few more EP of day9 daily. Started to get better at my macro (constant scvs/supply depots, or probes/pylons) and got to about top 5 diamond. Masters league was released, played ladder game after patch, lost, got promoted =D. Been there since.

I started off by placing in Platinum which was a surprised; infact I started playing as a Terran and somehow I beat Idra once in the beta with a 1/1/1 build. Either way i didnt know who idra was until later on. I first started using zerg near the end of the beta, I remember using baneling busts and laughing. Either way once retail came out I got placed into platinum i believe again and made my way to diamond, I got promoted pretty early; nothing to exciting. Season 1 i finished 2nd in diamond and i never got promoted which was real upsetting as I played a lot and had a winning record; however I guess my MMR wasnt high enough. Season 2 I got placed in diamond again after losing my placement match, however this season I decided to try harder. I read up on strats, I followed spanishiwas build closely and adapted it to handle the protoss death ball which probably was the reason I wasnt getting promoted. I finally made masters after going 20-2 over the course of two days and was extremely happy.

Of course I get placed in bronze and am there for months. Then I discover Day9, and after tons and tons of ladder games I finally make Silver! But I feel like my skills are above that, and I end up just saying "not good enough, we can make it to diamond". Soon I find myself in Gold league, still feeling inadequate. HOWEVER I do want to say that upon getting promoted to Gold I also earned myself the 100 wins photo (yay Hydralisk!). I then go on a vacation of sorts, and fit in 3-4 long 6 hour ladder sessions, and at the end of the final evening before heading out on the road, I make it to Platinum! Oh the joy! Now people will respect me a bit more! But ever since promoting to Silver, I had the goal in mind of making it to Diamond. I knew I can. So comes along the ladder lock into the new season, and I'm on fire. I feel completely in control of all of my games and feel like I'm outclassing everyone. You cannot imagine my joy when came the first hour of the new season, I am placed in Diamond! Not only that, but top 5 in my league! I am ecstatic, and play quite well that day. I wake up the next morning finally feeling like "now I can play some real games" (of course my MMR is still the same and my calibre of opponents is the same as well, but I feel accomplished). I sit down, and play a match. After a long macro game, I end up not quite having enough bases and get killed. Oh well, that's fine. I'm in diamond now. :D Let's try again. Oh, died to a 4 gate. Hmm. I can get through this, I'm good enough. ![]() Oh, 2 rax. :/ Oh, speedling all in. Fine, I can cheese too. I'm diamond, I can execute it perfectly. Scouting? Nah. I 7 pool 2x spine crawler rush, crush my zerg opponent. Ha! Take that! Oh a protoss opponent? You're about to be 6 pooled. Get there! I eventually fall into a pattern of cheesing every games for about 50 games. You, the experienced TL reader/player that you are, can guess how that went. My win ratio was below 40%. I demote to platinum, where I am now. Smacked some sense into me, and now I am earning my way back in with a macro-oriented goal in mind. I will celebrate once more when I get back into diamond. :D Moral of my story: CELEBRATE when you promote! But don't let it go to your head or you will demote and that's not something you want to celebrate. ![]() I really enjoyed this story. I started with SC2 back in september or october 2010 with very little experience in RTS (age of empires 2... oh yea...!). I had a pretty big fear of placing into bronze, so I decided to straight up play against the computer, and play co-op against 2 hard computers. I did it for probably a whole week until I knew the basics around the terran race. Tried the placement matches, and got into gold. After a month or so of gaming, and really trying to buckle down and win with strategy, I go promoted to platinum. I was ECSTATIC! My gf thought I was nuts! But of course I hit a wall. A pretty hard brick wall. Trying to go from platinum to diamond was not working for me, and I decided to do a race switch to Zerg. I didn't even try playing 1v1's. More co-op and 3v3's 4v4's for me! After about a month or so, I felt confident enough to try the ladder once again. Watching day[9] helped tremendously, and I also understood the TvZ and ZvZ matchup pretty well (now that I think about it, not THAT well) and that pushed me over to Diamond. Lots of happy dancing :D :D :D Now I'm trying for masters. I feel that I've got a pretty good understanding of the game, and should be able to get there soon.

As a former WC3 player and general stubborn idiot I got a solid bronze placement, with 2 disconnects in placement which didn't help. I frequently tried to build armies about a third of my opponent's size and try to outmicro the other guy. Once I discovered that was retarded I just learnt a few builds and played 1v1 pretty infrequently, got to diamond in all the team modes with a load of friends which was fun. Then set myself back to 1v1 games, got my promotion to silver after a portrait farmer insta-left my game, which was nice. Stayed in silver for about 2 or 3 weeks despite having a 70% win rate, and a solid 16-0 record in mirror matches. Finally got promoted to high gold yesterday after it started matching me against plats. I don't play too many games a night, maybe 4 or 5 after I'm well warmed up, so I started cheesing 3 rax marine SCV all-ins yesterday and whored some games out. my record wasn't the best so I went back to Toss, won a really solid game against a Terran and got promoted, naturally went nuts. Timing is handy too, I'm away with no SC for a whole week, so cool to get that promotion before I left. Got no money and therefore no life all summer so gonna try to push for masters now, apparently there are only 4 or 5 from Ireland so that would be a cool thing to add to my resume

well i was totaly wrong XD i won 1 of the 5 placement matches and got into bronze. the first season i was top 5 but didn't get promoted and when the ladder reset for the next season i didn't play for the first 2-3 months of the new season but still watched the streams and video's.but about 2 months ago i picked sc2 up again and started playing like 5-10 games a week and after 2 months of playing. i got this match against a protoss who did some weird ass 3 gate into hidden stargate against my 3 rax, i beat him easily.and i got promoted to silver league and i screamed so loud and got really drunk ( well it was saturday night ofcourse) and now i am making my way up to gold league:D
