We hope to register at least 32 teams for season 1.
The format will be best of 5 1v1 games every week against another team. The minimum number of players on a team is 3.
The first three maps and the map for the 5th game (ace match) will be preset. The 4th map is chosen by the team that is losing at that point, only maps from the map pool may be chosen.
additional rules and regulations will be posted on our website. Please do check it out and join us for the fun this summer!

I'd like to sign me team up but im not seeing much information on the site regarding the league itself. Will there be any prize? Will the schedule be the responsibility of the teams, or will there be a set day each week that these CWs will take place? I would like to recommend a set weekly date for the event to take place, as it would not only be easier for teams to prepare on a weekly basis, but would also be easier for fans of the league to know when their favorite teams are playing etc.
EDIT: It's called American Pro League, and during registration I can only pick from american states, does this mean only americans are allowed in the league? Oo
I suck at naming things. APL is open for all players of SC2. Im mulling name changes. PM me if you think you have a better name XD
I will make sure the form gets changed so that its not just american states. maybe just add an other option or something like that. Games will be played in reasonable daylight/evening hours of USA time, but teams from other countries are absolutely welcome.
VODs will be free and aval on youtube. Streams will be available for free as well.

Sounds good, we'll sign up. I still have questions regarding the league though. Will you be setting a schedule every week? Or will the teams be in charge of it. And will there be prizes?
I will be seeking sponsors for a prize eventually, but I cannot promise a prize.
There will be a schedule. if the time is inconvenient then you will have to work it out with the opposing team's team captain to play the matches by the end of the weekend or the end of that day etc. The current proposed schedule is on the website.
again the league is for everyone. the form is just messed up. we will be sure to fix that asap so that its not just US states
This sounds great. I have been looking forward to a Team League with this format for quite some time. Do you have any idea when you want this to start? I am hoping that I can form some sort of team with my friends by then. Good luck.
We will allow games to be played not in order for the first three matches and perhaps seperately if neccessary.
We are also working on forfeit rules to make sure that not too many matches end up being forfeits as well. We will make sure that the rules are generally flexible to minor scheduling conflicts.
I will be one of the casters/streamers for this league and we are hoping to stream multiple games per week, one after another sometimes. If you could link me to some of your casts and stuff that would be great.
@ BeastofManju - I hope you are able to form a team! registration is open until June 26th. so you have some time :D
Hi, I'm a caster for the CyberCraft tournaments and I have a co-caster (AGIANTSMURF), not sure if he'd be interested, but if you need a caster please consider me. I can provide some sample stuff, but I love to live stuff. I can provide an entire TLNY scene of people who can reference me =D but yeah, if I could try out or something, shoot me a PM. I'm graduating soon but i'll have static schedule rather shortly after.
Hey found a small typo on your rules page. Under the section for cheating it states "If cheating is suspected, the player must raise his hand and call a tournament official over. A pause may be used during game to allow this to happen." I assume this will mostly be done online so thats not really possible. Other wise looks awesome hope you get a lot of people involved.

just some constructive criticism, from a web designers perspective:
1. the grunge style templates went out years ago... it's not very professional, clean, or space efficient. 2. you shouldn't be running a sports tournament from a WordPress content management system... it's meant for blogs, not intricate content delivery systems like a tournament organizer.
also, to have 32 teams competing in ALL Bo5 format for the entire season will be WAY too much content. I'd start the lower brackets with a Bo1/3 not only because if people are intimidated with how much content you provide, they might shy away from it as it will be hard to follow. Not to mention having to produce, observe, commentate, and deliver all that content will be literally a full time job. If you don't have dedicated staff working a decent amount of hours per day, you are going to get swamped with work load and what seems like a fun thing now, might turn into a painful chore later... (leading to the league's demise)
I'd start slow and steady, and grow from there.
(this is all constructive criticism... not trolling, just trying to give some helpful advice. take it as you will!)
@MgcHarger - its so that if we ever need to contact a team that appears lacking of a leader we can do so. Its similar to signing up a CSL team. We wont be doing email verification as they do, but we will be verifying character codes before the season begins.
1. Im not a web designer. The site is simply to deliver information. 2. Not all games will be streamed or casted. - probably about 2 matches per week (max of 5 games) will be cast every week. (by me) There will be other casters lined up to cast additional games, but most of the games will simply be avali as replay packs Semi-final and Grand final are sure to be casted.
The lower bracket is only if i reach 32+ teams for season 2. All teams registering past our 32 maximum will be placed on hold for season 2.
http://machtechcorp.net/apl/?page_id=14 The registered teams list has just been updated. if you registered before this time, your team name should appear on this page with the number of players on your team inside of () If you did register before this time and do not appear on this list please resubmit your registration form
Due to strong interest in the league we will be opening up B-league for season 1 of the APL. Any teams that sign up after the initial quota of 32 will be placed into B-league automatically for season 1. B-league will also have a maximum of 32 teams. This will make for a maximum of 64 teams in the entire APL.
I did an interview with eng0re today and here's a link to that. Its about the APL. perhaps some of your questions about the league are answered here as well :D
Rules have been updated to include additional information about substitutes and line up information, look under C. Tournament Setup and in the little d. bullet within Tournament Setup.
I hope this clarifies things.
I know there are teams that are submitting players without emails, but we really prefer to have it on record even if we never use it.
If you are about to submit a team and are missing character codes, please wait until you have collected all your team member's character codes. It adds on a second layer of work for everyone (me and you) when you submit without character codes.
I know it sounds like a lot of pickyness, but when all the sheets and stuff are 100% manual as of the moment, it really helps!
Im looking to set up a show match between two registered teams. Best of 5. Map pool : g1 : iCCup TestBug g2 : Tal'Darim Altar g3 : iCCup Match Point g4 : team that is down one game gets to choose map g5 : GSL Terminus
drop a comment if your team would like to play. We will choose the two teams with the most high level players by next monday so that lineups can be submitted by tuesday.
Matches will be played with APL rules and will be played on Thursday May 19th at 7pm Eastern Time.
yep def will! people who have twitters can also follow me on twitter at www.twitter.com/aegisstarcraft when we announce the teams that are playing in the pre season- show match.

we have a pro team and a competitive team, or A and B team. A team is registered for A league, can B team get into B League?
awesome what you guys are doing here, love it! Just registered My team at your site, hope to hear from you guys soon! ~Tim King ~Solidtk.786 (Manager of Team Solid)
Best of luck to them, despite the somewhat deceiving name.
We are expecting top professional teams to be in alpha league. Lesser teams will fall to Beta-league. We are extending the league because of interest and we are unlikely to end up casting any of the beta-league games beyond season 1 as we expect Beta-league to be for platinum and lesser diamond players.
We have some really strong players registered from team NrG, and VP gamers, if you would like to call them BillyMasters I suggest you re-evaluate how you view grandmaster league players. If you, "Fingulfin" are actually a smurf account for some pro player in korea, then you can reserve the right to call people BillyMasters, BobDiamond, and BretPlatinum, but otherwise I suggest you refrain from insulting the time that people put into learning the game and building their skills.
There are more than 32 professional gaming teams out there. Without a prize pool we cannot expect to gather them all immediately, but we will grow the American ProLeague Alpha-League into a truly professional league.
based on the past few posts.... Alpha and Beta League placement for season 1 is currently based on registration timing, but because of people doubting the level of professionalism we are evaluating this decision and possibly looking to do a simple ranking system upon registration close based on some general ranking of the team in terms of the ladder to better place teams into the correct league.
like if you want to run this with inclusion of teams from Europe? A: We accept teams from all around, as long as they can play on the NA server.
or run this on the EU server? A: If you would like to take our method and run it on European Server it will have to wait until after season 1 begins. Our staff is small and not yet capable of supporting a second tournament to be run with the high quality of production and playing experience that we strive for. - PM me if this is the question that you were trying to ask. However, we are excited to be able to explore all of our options and will seek to understand the best way to implement any extensions of the APL.

provides a different format for players to practice with. This is a much better format than I have seen other leagues use such as the Home/Away format.
No need to get all ad-hominem at someone volunteering their time, relax champ.

I stand by my rules and this aspect of the APL will never change. and by the way CSL has been around for 3+ years and has used similar lineup submission methods.
The CSL is a very well run tournament that has over 144 teams. I can imagine that there are very few people that think CSL is poorly run.
Either you deal with it or dont play in this one. im sure you can go and make your own or just play in one that is better run. Right?

lol i award you troll of the day.
i agree with NrG if there was no rule that required a 5 day advanced line up submission then people would not take it seriously. with no deadline there is no officialism to the line up (if that is a word). Putting all that aside its only 5 days. grow-up and learn to manage time how hard is it to submit a player line-up?
i said i'd be fine w/ a 1 day deadline the problem i think you'll run into is sc2 players w/ a life as well i have a fairly normal schedule with school and work, yet i cant tell you what my schedule in 5 days is like
your asking 18-22yr olds to have a set in stone schedule ?
just gotta set aside some time for the matches on saturday. Theres a reason why we dont limit team sizes and can have rare-exceptions for rescheduling if both teams agree.
I dont see why an 18 - 22 yr old cant figure out what they are doing on saturday afternoon a few days in advance and set aside some time.
And yes I have managed many things before. This is one of the first events that Im managing that has even this much leeway. I usually set a zero tolerance/no late policy. These more relaxed rules that I have provided will better help teams prepare for matches and also give enough time for teams to review replays of their opponents from previous weeks, etc. - or perhaps I should have let the iron fist side of me write the entire rule book?
Late lineups will be punished in the following manner (first place I saw this was CSL, so credit to them for coming up with this) one day late : ace game forfeit two days late : 4th game forfeit three days late : forfeit match, other team recieves 3-0
In other news - SHOWMATCH is coming up! Both teams are submitting their lineups on sunday at 11:59 pacific time in preparation for matches on Thursday 7pm eastern time. Best of luck to them, despite the somewhat deceiving name.
This is because they don't have any prizes, so it's purely for fun and competition. If they ever get sponsored, they'd get more professional teams to sign up.
Even if there arent 32(64) pro teams out there. There are dozens of teams with players that have the potential. There are no name players that beat professional players on ladders. This is the chance for pro or semi pro teams to get themselves known.
I think this team league will be amazing, I plan to follow it as religiously as I do other leagues

When I say professional, I am thinking the literal definition of the word: people who play the game for a living. When I said "caters more to" I am refering to your main demographic. If you are really intending on having 64 teams involved, your main demographic will be BillyMasters, BobbyDiamond and BretPlatinum. I find it strange that you would be insulted by me referring to your players as BillyMasters and BretDiamond, seeing as in your own interview you mention that diamond and platinum players are applying.
I have no doubt that you will have some very good players, and alot of decently good (high masters and whatnot) players playing in your "proleague"... But I do doubt that you will have a significant amount of professional players.

we are still building a league that will expand to include top level players, and currently there are more masters level players than there are diamond or platinum. (to be honest, platinum teams wont stand a chance in the APL)
In addition to describing the level of play, proleague also describes a style of tournament. Nevertheless, I hope you will enjoy the games that come out of this as we continue to register teams.
I will announce a new seeding method to better place teams, so that prolevel teams that are registering dont immediately get stuck in Beta-league because of registration time. This will likely happen when registration closes or when the quota for season 1 is met.
I have also been thinking about how we will proceed in the future and we will require a minimum of 5 players for season 2. Im saying this now so that teams with less than 5 players will have time to recruit. However, for season 1 the minimum number of players will remain the same as previously announced, at 3.

awesome! thank you for your support!
I also like your "quote" XP, makes me think that they should give stalkers a cloak upgrade with cooldown XP
send me a pm. refs will have some sort of skill requirement so there is legitamacy behind what the refs say, but we are working on an extended staff list.
Very cool. I can't wait to see my home team on the big stage against a team like NRG. They are imposing but we have some sweet players too (both Chance and Suppy are in grandmasters, and the other players are just as badass )
yea I cant wait to see these matches and this is just a prelude to the playing field this summer. I hope to have the banner and a special announcement for everyone soon!

There will be weekly matches starting June 25th!
yea sorry about that typing error. spelled my own channel wrong. - herp derp.
Theres a schedule to be followed. (i remember you now...ur the strange person who had strange comments earlier)
Anyway....
The league is now full. both alpha and beta. However, there are a few teams that have not completed their registration info. In a few days I will not hesitate to give those spots away to teams registering now. All teams registering now will be placed onto a waiting list.
Sry about the delay in updating here, but the schedule for the APL has changed.
Grand Finals will be postponed from the previous schedule to August 6th. Up and Down matches between A and B leagues moved up to the week of July 30th. Check the full schedule at http://machtechcorp.net/apl/?page_id=16
If you are registered for APL, lineup submission for this saturday is going on right now. Please have your team captains check their emails for information. Lineup submission is due Tuesday 11:59 pacific.
Late lineup submissions will be punished in the following ways: Late 1 day - Forfeit 5th game of the match Late 2 days - Forfeit entire match (zero tolerance)
Games will be on the 25th of June at 4pm Eastern time.
Certainly will be signing Team Epidemic up soon, wish the site was a little more polished (not using google documents and external sites for webforms and such).
We know that the site is absolutely horrible and are looking for a solution. We will be putting the APL on a schedule to run every summer. So season 2 will arrive in June of next year. In the meantime we will hold smaller scale events such as 4-8 team mini tournaments and king of the hill type events. More information about those are on the way.
Go ahead and use our registration system to sign up your team so that you get email notification of these events (if you like)
