Okay. It's already pretty obvious where some of these ideas came from like the colossus. That was already pointed out in the beta, so you're a little late on that. The goliath is a basic mech walker, and if you look at other mech walkers then that AT-ST doesn't look like a comparable example. So I'm going to say thats off. The hellion is a buggy with a flame thrower; I'm pretty sure the idea to do that was way before command and conquer so I'm gonna believe Blizzard referenced it to them. and wtf is that? The nexus from SC1 came way before that ship thing.

These are all very generic. For example a vehicle with a flamethrower is hardly a reference of any kind, just like marines aren't a reference to every game/movie/book ever that has marines. If you just look at generic concepts you will find similarities in everything. There is nothing that is so absolutely original, that nobody has never thought of anything even similar to it before.

Well the Stargate is way too simple. It's just a circular portal. That's it. Other than that, the design is totally different.
Honestly flame tanks and hellions are not alike. Vehicle + Flamethrower does not mean its a ripoff of flame tanks. Hellions are not flame tanks. I don't really see the connection.
Yea the Goliath is a similar thing. It's a just a walker-mech thing. The AT-ST doesn't even have arms. Their designs are actually significantly different. I guess you could argue by the nature of their legs, but that's about it.
Nexus is absolutely not a ripoff of the stargate thingy. Those two examples are blatantly based off of the egyptian pyramids. They're based on a common thing, not off of each other.
To be honest, I think the Colossus would look cooler if it had only three legs. What's this four-leg bullshit?

Yamato-damashii – 'the brave, daring, and indomitable spirit of Japanese people'
Yamato is a region of japan, but it also has multiple meaning.
which led to the yamato gun.(yamato is also the biggest battleships ever made i believe, which took damn long to destroy at the end of ww2.)

Blizz often do homages to other games and fantasy or sci-fi franchises, its a little nod to their heros.
And i love all the mythology stuff they use.
The goliath to me doesn't look like a walker from starwars, looks more like one of these bad boys....

That takes me back... and they are doing a reboot!

blizzard just put in random crap they found interesting... the immortal is a damn droid from Star Wars Ep 1 (the one that rolls around and has a shield barrier).
Blizz isn't really following a set pattern. just random crap put together to make it seem cool.

I haven't read the whole thread, but have hydras been mentioned?

Makes me think of the whole black athena controversy thing the US had a ways back.
the thing about it is, part of our modern langage comes from ancient greek. and those words did keep their meaning, somewhat at least. so, wether or not they're trying to reference Greece, there would still probably still be links to be made.
That being said, it's always fun to see things from the past still having some place today. Part of the reason why i'm studying history.

I was sure that Starcraft was not invented by simple human

it's english bro... english includes many other languages like greek, latin, french, italian etc... even chinese.

Blizzard uses all kind of mythology thermines in their games for unit names, items, etc. I noticed that too.

I dunno, it's pretty common for videogames to use things like that. Gotta make things sound cool, latin, greek, and mythologies are good for that sort of thing. Banshees and Wraiths are mythological creatures from Ireland and they originated with Celtic mythology iirc.
Barnshee is indeed Irish. It's a female ghost or spirit which wails outside a house on the night where someone inside will die. Wraith is Scottish, and, as far as i know, it's just another term for any kind of ghost or spirit, with no specific connotations - i could be wrong though.

I picked up on Chrono boost and Hellion. Chrono-Time Helios-Titan sun god.
The sad way I noticed this (I noticed it instantly): I played Age of Mythology:The Titans Expansion.

YAY. Greek is awesome. Hope you enjoy learning it, Greek words pop up literally *everywhere* in the english language.

well most names come from somewhere, usually something representitive of what the thing is, like chrono boost is a thing related to time, and the greek word means time, I don't see whats so amazing, thats how names are thought up, they don't just sit around and think of cool sounding words with no meaning
