Click Me - TeamLiquid: SpazCraft Events - Information
Introduction
Hello, everyone Spazzer from Spazcraft here. I am creating this post because I am in need of some help and I wanted to reach out to the Starcraft II community specifically targeting the Canadian section.
Most of you wont know who or what I am so I will give a quick explanation. I am a Canadian competitor, commentator and sponsor for e-Sports. Starcraft II is currently my main demographic and I like to believe my events are slightly popular and that people enjoy them. I run a website called SpazCraft which can be found at www.SpazCraft.com.
I run an event almost every night of the week and I am working at having something something more... we will leave it at that. (To be Announced)
Information
I recently was invited by Chrome to the Toronto LAN Event which I drove a total of 6 hours to show up to the event. I was firstly surprised with the number of participants and overall by the popularity of e-Sports in Toronto. Chrome and I are teaming up for the next Toronto LAN Event so stay tuned for that. Date Unknown. (Hint: April or May)
This weekend (March 11th) I have been invited to the Montreal LAN ETS, I am excited to meet some of these players and 'network'. SpazCraft's plan is to create a well organized LAN events throughout Canada while growing on the online section of e-Sports. SpazCraft has only done well because of the insane amount of support and because of that I am grateful. I hope to receive that continuous support why I develop into bigger ideas.
So the main reason for this post is I am in need of help, being relativly new to the Starcraft II community, I don't know some of the Top players here in Canada unfortunately. I am trying.
Top 200 Canadian Starcraft II Players
The requirements for this list have been changing because of the amount of private messages and posts I have received so I will try and refine it.

I'm sorry, but that made me laugh.

Yeah! Great to see more support for the Canadian scene! More LANs and Tournaments would be great.

Main reason is to make a contact list for upcoming Canadian events and to make a sign up page for SpazCraft events and see if the specific players would be interested in such.

...isn't "spaz" a negative word one hears in places like highschool? If so, you sure could have picked a better name for yourself. Self-defecating is the word here I think (?)... sorry but I think it's a childish offending word... just gives some people a frown

I linked this thread on the forums for the Canadian SC2 clan I'm in, I'm sure a bunch of us will have lots of feedback for you!

Stop over analyzing things just so you can troll them. The only thing childish and offending here is your post.

Chaos_play here Spaz , Slush from the ROOT team is canadian, from QC. He's a great zerg player!

Spaz means "out of control or insane' I think it describes me well. As for the highschool thing I have no idea, never heard of that before.

You better, and you can still probably make montreal this weekend.

mkengyn is from calgary. He is currently tied with stalife on the ladder with nearly 4k points

Biggest name missing would probably be TTOne/TT1
|
I know someone who goes to college with slained and could probably contact him if you would like. Don't think he's registered on TL, so you can PM me on here or contact me in-game at Disciple.725 and I'll redirect you to him if he's on ^^ (the person who knows slained).

Hey cool stuff spaz. I have one question maybe you can work something out for the ottawa scene? It sounds like you live close to ottawa (6 hours to to, 2 hours to mtl) and would love to see something happen here.
|
For sure, my plan is to spread e-Sports across Canada and have something stable and fun for players and spectators.
~Spazzer
|
Wish I had the cash to make it out to ETS this year, but tight funds and a 6-hour drive from Guelph in a gas guzzler > me. Will have to wait for whatever else Spazzer is going to put together.
Should still have my e-mail, so hit me up for anything.
|
might wanna look at vileDeathrow, he has been top in NA ladder for a long period of time.

The first organization to try to start a scene in canada is named after a derogatory term. Wonderful.

This is true, I don;t think tha the is trying to be derogatory since colloquially the term "spaz" has moved beyond the connection to mental disability from where it once derived. This is of course colloquially speaking
Discursively it is still not the best word to use, however that can be chaned and his attempts at making sc2 hit Canada is still awesome
rereading its cuz his name is spazzer and this is an unfortunate coincidence. Perhaps some middle ground for the name? a small shift would avoid any issues people may have with the name, I'm ok with it because i understand
|
Stalife and KawaiiRice are Canadian aren't they?

Updated List let me know if I missed anyone.

Good intiative, Canada is a bit to vast to get something localized though. The scene struggles outside of Vancouver, Ontario and Quebec. Alberta is getting close though with a few reoccuring tournaments. SK is terrible especially in Saskatoon haha. 1 Lan centre and it is at the University which makes it tough to get a scene going.
Hopefully you get your idea launched. It will be fun to tune into some Canada only content.
|
This thread makes me sad that I live in Edmonton now and not Toronto/Montreal area...
Also I totally forgot Antimage was Canadian, he's awesome...
I would totally show up to LANs if any ever existed on this side of the country although my starcraft playing recently has basically been consumed by RIFT... goddam mmo's
|
all you guys in Alberta/BC saying how few tournaments you have.. think how many tournaments are in the Maritimes! We had Frag for cancer in Halifax in October.. but outside of that, absolutely nothing. We used to have WCG but even that has diminished, I believe last year it was cancelled.. soo for me/any maritimers to goto a decent LAN, we gotta travel to Montreal, which is a 10 hours away for me (and im in Moncton, closer than most)
Need more Maritime support!

I don't think most people associate it with negative connotations anymore. If someone says "that guy's a spaz", people usually just assume it's referring to someone who is cooky or zany, not so much mentally challenged.
Kinda like if I say something is "lame", it doesn't mean I don't think it can walk (the definition of "lame"), I mean that it's boring or uncool.

The same could be said for gamers' uses of words like gay and rape. Maybe they're acceptable for most people in certain situations, but you wouldn't name an organization gaycraft or rapecraft. The fact is that while most people don't know or imply the negative connotations of the word, they're still there.
All I'm saying is that there's no reason you can't use a more professional name. I've read your explanation for your name, but unless you're going to attach that explanation to every banner you make, you'll make a bad first impression with many people.
On another note, stop "signing" your posts. Your name is at the top of them, you look ridiculous typing ~Spazzer every time. That's not even what a tilde is.

I was at the January tournament, and will be at the April one as well. It was a great experience, everyone was pretty friendly, and even if you don't know anyone else when you arrive, you know everyone has the shared interest and passion for SC2, so you won't just be a dude standing in the corner by himself.
Sry, I realize that was a bit off topic from the OP... Don't mean to derail the thread. On topic, I'm looking forward to seeing what SpazCraft will produce in the future. Looks like a very promising site, and it's great to see more SC2 action in Canada!
