I like the new maps. Shattered Temple is so much better than Lost Temple!
Furthermore, I think the Collosi should be removed! (Zorgaz -Terran/AbrA-Random/Zorg-Dota2) Guineapigs <3

Slag Pits has got to be the most non zerg favored map Blizz has ever created. The close rush distances make 2 rax extremely strong AND terran can break your backdoor and seige your expansion from a tiny choke point that you cannot get a surround on. So they just sit at your backdoor hitting your expansion............ thanks Blizz.

reading blizz's reasaning behind the changes in the mappool im more and more convinced that there map-guys are drunk.

There isn't a huge problem with this map, but we felt there aren't enough interesting features of this map.

wtf - you need at least 8 destructable rocks to make a good map or what O_o

Backwater Gulch has a familiar main to first expansion layout. Early game play on this map should feel familiar and there probably aren't too many early game threats or difficulties in terms of gimmicky strategies you need to worry about]

really? my natural exp has 2 rocks and a huge upwalk - how the hell am i going to defend that?

Metalopolis was one of two favorite maps across the different skill levels of players. We decided to introduce a very similar map, but slightly more macro heavy: Slag Pits

i'm out of spech - did they even look at the map before writing this?

Backwater gulch seems like a damn good FFA and 1v1 map. Holy hell

If blizz decides to publish backwater gulch as FFA, then we actually have an ffa map guys!

Why are new 2v2 maps so bad? your bases should always be close imo so there is less incentive to cheese Oh, and new maps make playing zerg feel so much better, just got one base all in'd by a terran and it was very nice to have so much room to work with.

LOL at ppl wondering what Blizzard are thinking. Blizzard WANT the maps to be 1base gimmicky "all ins". Why you ask? Well if a mouthbreather can beat a master a decent percentange of the time becuase of map+race imbalance the mouthbreather will be happy and buy the new epansions. And ppl who can't play and consider macro to be having 25 workers and queing 5 siege tanks in order to stay at 0 mins and gas are a lot more than the ppl who want to play a skilfull game.

This is very true, they're appealing to the masses. But why can't they just have a separate map pool for masters+ or diamond+ so they have the smaller, shorter maps for the less experienced and larger macro maps w/o all of the abusive terrain (i typed terran the first time) features for those who are skilled enough to exploit the crap out of it?

Blizzard don't give a shit about TL Community, can you understand that? They care about the "most", and not the "best". Quantity > quality is the rule #1 in every aspect of this new century.

You really think Blizzard staff is like: "Hi honey, was a hard day today, we spent so much energy making the game balance so Idra and his fans are happy, but we did it! How are the kids?".

Yep but Blizzard still remains, at least relatively, Quality over Quantity. Anyways, I don't think that's what what you mean to say; you're comparing the more numerous casual players with the higher quality better players? That doesn't quite make sense. You look at the game as a whole; if the majority of the people think the game is bad, the game is bad in the majority's eyes. So to improve quality in that sense, they have to make sure the majority of the players are satisfied.

i'm pretty sure i'm vetoing slag pits. the natural is way too hard to defend. can't see it staying in the map pool long without some significant edits though.

and is it just me that thinks shakuraas is really out because typhon peaks is basically the same map minus the natural (but a considerably worse map, but mainly because there's only one ground route up the center, allowing for the map to be cut in half horizontally far too easy)?

Slag Pits and Shattered Temple close spawn rush distances are ridiculous. Other than that, the new maps are generally an improvement over the old ones.

Blizzard needs to stop fucking making maps with "rotational symmetry" because I'm tired of super close positions, semi close positions, then cross positions. It should be far positions, and further positions.

That's a total failed troll action.

You just prove how right i am, and how Blizzard did an ace commercial job: who says pleasing the majority is always good?

If any newb player was able to beat the #1 world SC2 player 1/5 of the games, then the majority of the players would be satisfied, because the majority of the players are 15-18 yo kids who wants to show mom how strong they are copy/pasting a 4 gates build.

Blizzard will always prefer to sell 10 games to 10 newbies rather than 1 game to a pro/good player, and good/newbie players do not have "fun" the same way, at all.

Apparently Blizzard has added GSL Taldarim Altar to their BNet servers for download (not ladder), because I just loaded a replay, didn't have it on my PC and it pulled it down. Perhaps this is the GSL map Blizzard is intending to add to the ladder?

to be fair, backwater gulch is better than blistering,

steppes and jungle were both far worse than typhon and slag pits

and the temple revamp actually isn't too horrible....

Yeah the maps aren't fantastic by any means (especially the nat design on literally every single one of them...), but atleast its a small small improvement.

However taking out shakurus over delta and not just using GSL maps is seriously bizzare to me, absolutely unfathomable how they came up with those choices :\.
