Playing a game on Slug, the new supposedly macro-oriented map. Went 14gas 14 pool, 20 hatch and had 7 marines + and SCV at my expo when it was halfway done. Macro-oriented my ass.

Blizzard says the company plans to add "a couple more new maps to the official ladder rotation in the coming weeks, including a user-made 1v1 map that is currently being featured in the Global StarCraft League (GSL)."

You damn well know that's going to be Crossfire SE.

I'm very happy with them. Slag Pits close positions is actually farther than Metal or LT close positions, which is not that bad at all for close positions.
In any case, I'm happy with them. Except the rocks, delta quadrant still being in the pool, and close position spawn is still possible.
Slag pits close positions are closer together then close positions on either Metalopolis or Shattered Temple.
It takes a drone ~24 seconds to get from one bases ramp to the other close bases ramp on Slag Pits. Where are it takes ~27 seconds on Metalopolis, and ~25 seconds on Shattered Temple.
In fact close positions on Slag Pits are the closest positions of any ladder map yet, even shorter then those of Steppes of War. Couple that with the wide open natural and basically no possible 3rd on the map and I'd have to say that Slag Pits is going to play out pretty badly, especially in close positions.

o_O, exciting! Looking forward to it.
[edit] Yah lol it probably will be Crossfire SE...

Perhaps that GSL map maker should do more tweaks to blizzard maps if they are more willing to add those.

The GSL better not add any of these maps. Good Lord, they're horrible.

Close spawning positions on Slug are indeed beyond ridiculous - I cannot for the life of my cat understand how they didn't use the same system as in shakuras where such spawns weren't possible.

Yea, the close positions on Slag Pits is ridiculous. But even more ridiculous is that there are really no far positions on the map. Cross positions isn't tht long and the other 2 positions are just awful. Apart from Slag Pits tho, i don't mind the other maps but i have only played a couple of games on them.

1 GSL map? yay
And wow really how is Slag Pits supposed to be macro oriented? Hopefully they just forgot to restrict close-position spawns.
Also, removing Shakuras because it was too plain? ... I didn't think it was a plain map at all... More interesting than many other maps.
Hopefully in newer seasons once they get the seasons rolling they can put back in some older maps (like DO haha).

I don't understand the removal of shakuras at all. Its probably the best map at this point of time.
|
Removing blizzard's only good macro map with maps that you aren't allowed to take your 3rd on? That's cool, I guess

No more Khaydarin amulet, perhaps we'll have to plunge into the Khaydarin depths to retrieve it?

Tbh when its close pos Slag Pits I just pull all my drones make zerglings and if hes walled off I leave

Once 5000 matches have been played on Khaydarin Depths they'll put it back in the game

Where are the new maps located? I want to open them inside map editor

As a Zerg-player: Backwater Gulch: Bad Slag Pits: Terrible Shattered Temple: Good Typhon Peaks: Good
Replacing Slag pits with Shakuras would be awesome.

Replacing Slag pits with Shakuras would be awesome. Top players have so far said Slag pits very zerg favored because it's very open and it's very hard for T or P to take third or even their natural. It doesn't particularly matter if zerg third is a bit far away when the map is so open. One base pushes can be somewhat hard to stop, but not really any more so than on most current maps. Still a terrible map though.

These maps are good but they feel too big...Thirds are too easy to take and the naturals are super easy to defend...I just wish we had closer positions for more exciting micro based games
