The new maps are pretty cool, Sad that they took out shakuras and a couple others, since those were alright (actually all maps aren't too bad, considering one of my favs was blistering) ... but these maps encourage more macro, and a lot more flanking from different angles and small battles all over the map which makes it TONS more interesting. instead of simply containing and opponent in the first 5-7 minutes or just 1a across like steppes.

Had a TvT on slag pits earlier, where he tried a tank contain on the high ground but it was easily held with a couple tanks and mm and by me just taking more bases and the proxy pf at his gold.... Overall at first quick glance I think it's good that blizzard is making bigger maps, for more action, and more strategically military flanks and army positioning and macro games!

Typhon is pretty decent, tho all my games were on far positions. Shattered Temple is much better for Zerg than LT. As a protoss, the changes aren't too gamebreaking, but the lack of cliff is nice. The other maps tho are fairly average and the rush distances are pretty short. Slag Pits is pretty awful, it actually feels like Steppes of War regardless of the positions.
Ganzi beat me without stim. Ostojiy beat me with a nydus. Siphonn beat me with probes. Revival beat my sentry-immortal all-in.

Ya, no kidding. What is Blizzard thinking. I wish they would explain their decisions. It just makes no sense to me. Shakuras was a great map and a popular map.

I don't know why blizzard doesn't provide I full screen for us to view the maps in game other than creating a game.

Remember according to blizzard casuals want fast paced rush games. They totally don't play NR20 games where they mass to 200/200 and attack.

i feel the main problem is the fucking ladder and the way it works. i wish they could have the same sistem as iccup so people can play the map that they want.

These maps are terrible for protoss macro, expos are all so open or are far away. GSL maps are way better. Most blizzard maps are favored for one race or another, why cant we have more balanced blizzard maps? I dont want to 4 gate or phoenix every damn game.

Good god, there -has- to be a reason the gsl maps aren't in the game.

Whatever changes Blizzard do its seems inevitable to see non-stop bashing. People don't even try the maps and are already angry at the changes.

I like blizzards maps. One of my favorite map was Desert Oasis.

I liked oasis as well. It was brutal, but very, very interesting.

You're right that most people are whining. The map design isn't likely to affect many of my games' outcomes (with the exception of close position backwater being hilariously bad)

Gamers, unlike any other group, love to hate their hobby. But that's not to say these maps aren't very, very bad. the pro's on catz's stream all came to that conclusion.


And I just played a long distance lost temple tvz. That map is basically impossible to push with mech on anymore. the middle is just a giant boxing ring for flanks.

I'm happy that blizzard listened to us and incorporated these maps into the ladder although I partially feel like they've had smaller maps for the sake of balancing - and now they're going to further tweak the late game.

So far I've played these new maps about a dozen times and I think that from a zerg perspective, they generally result in better games - less early all in stuff and the games are progressing into later stages.

Vs Protoss, I feel like they're basically being forced into 4 gating - which coincidentally seems like it will be more effective since the average zerg is going to have a false sense of security from the distances.

Vs Terran - I feel like there's going to be less give and take and every attack is going to be balls deep all in on their part - which I think is going to involve a lot of base trading.

Also I'm not sure why everyone's upset over shakuras - that map was pretty imba. Although I question why they left delta quadrant in there. That's definitely getting voted down for me as zerg.
