Shit, I totally missed that! Thanks man.

Actually a third question: The 5 player / team is a really bad rule imo punishing the best teams and basicly screwing players over. The three teams i can see this affecting the most, who is likely to have more than five players with the skill and dedication to enter and go past the first group stage, is Team Liquid (TLO, Ret, HuK, Jinro, HayPro and Tyler), EG (IdrA, AxSlav, DeMuslim, InControl, LZGames, Machine and possibly Grubby) and Root (Catz, Minigun, Kiwikaki, QXC, Slush and Drewbie).
Looking at this and comparing to your answer: "We want to try to create as even a playing field as possible for teams. This is why we have allocated a maximum of 5. Some teams are not big enough to field five players, but we feel that it's a good idea to have a max of five to get as much diversity as possible."
The harm to diversity would be minimal since we are only talking about it affecting a few teams. I do not think the fans would ever agree on it being a good idea to refuse one of Roots players to enter simply because of diversity, and i feel really bad for whoever you will deny this possibility.
Next argument would be to avoid teamkills, i think any team would argue that it is better to have a teamkill than to have one player not even given the chance due to a rule. And teamkills add some extra drama to the tournament.
The third argument would be to avoid players working together/throwing games in the group stage. This would be the "biggest" reason that i can see, and yet not allowing two palyers in a team in the same grooup does not void this problem. It will always be a problem in group stages, players from different team could be firends, players could throw games to avoid future opponents, throw games to indirectly eliminate players they see as a big threat etc. And since you stated that it might be possible for a team to have 6 players in future leagues you know this aswell.
All in all, it just seems like a bad rule that adds very little positive to the tournament while bringing very much negative to it. Not even Korea have a sceen big enough to support 10 strong teams, and yet this is basicly what you are asking from the western scene from the start, forcing good players to leave a premiere team for a "lesser" one. This does not support a proffesional starcraft scene in any way, this works against it since it is unlikely to fully run a top-notch pro team (giving full eco support to players) with "only" five good players in it.
Question: Was this a rule you discussed in depth beforehand and is there more reasons behind it than you stated already?
*disclaimer* This might sound super negative, but in reality i am super hyped for NASL.tv , just trying to bring some feedback to the table and see if there are more reasons behind you rules than i base my opinion on.

when people say koreans are better i dont think they mean koreans are the superior race. the way they train in korea is superior to the way people train outside of korea. when us/eu teams get all their players together in 1 house and practise like koreans the gap will be closed but its hard to imagine someones raw mechanics can make up for lack of a practise house, especially in regard to their own consistancy and awareness of all the possible strats that can be used against them.

Not sure what the standard work times are for Europe, but in the UK most people work 09:00-18:00. This means the show will be on at 5pm for us . When you take into account travel time, people will be potentially missing 2 hours of the stream. Since it is only a rebroadcast I'm pretty sure they are open for suggestions from the potential followers.

It seems like every tourney I watch that is casted by more than 1 person from replays has been a huge disappointment for me. There is ALWAYS a sync issue, no matter what, no matter how experienced or anything. The showmatch was basically unwatchable (but I'm sure others before me have flamed about that). Production values are a "nice to have" but remember, without a solid view of the game, nobody cares at all. Noone's going to tell all their friends to go check out a game's vod or subscription service because of good production values alone...
Justin.tv has the delay feature and I can think of 2 examples of broadcasts that have extremely good production values that are casted live - MLG and anything SirScoots does. The fact that the games are live adds 100 times more value to the cast to me than "nice transitions."
Also, way too much dead air on the showmatch. I watched the VOD, which I would expect to be nicely edited but it had like an hour of dead time at the start, then even once the games start there are lonnnng pauses with no music no text nothing like "we'll be back in 5" from the casters.. just awkward, random dead air. I can't believe I would ever say this but MLG even did better about that.

Same thing would be said if NASL was EUSL. Just people wanting to talk down on something that is good. Unless of course EU is going to do something similar, but the time is drawing near where they would have to announce something if they were or people will already be invested in other tournaments like NASL MLG IEM ESL DreamHack GSL. Which is already pretty big competition, so I don't think there is another tournament popping up.

What counts as a "team" for purposes of eligibility? If I decided I wanted to start a team and I was the only member would I be eligible? What if I convinced some friends to also list themselves as members?

You're going to possibly put a cap on koreans, does this mean you may put a cap on europeans, if too many apply and are able to participate?
Since you're going to put a cap on the amount of people that are allowed from each team, that would mean that europeans are going to have a very high representation at the tournament, because as far as I know, there's alot more teams in europe than in NA. I could be entirely wrong though.
I understand your intentions to make sure you're different from the GSL, but if Europeans are completely monopolizing all the slots in the tournament, I'd wonder why you're not holding this in Sweden instead of the US.
Like has been said the cap issue is due to lag. But I would like to address what I think is the reason for holding this in North America and not Europe when a possible majority of the players will be European.
1) The league will have Korean and European participants, North America is the logical middle ground as it is geographically located in between those two regions. If it were to be in Europe, there would not be able to be any Koreans at all, as the lag Korea <-> Europe is really bad while the lag from Korea to North Amerca is not great but is manageable. The lag from North America to Europe is negligible due to an already good underground cable network, the best in the world.
2) While the idea here is to foster Western eSports as a whole, North Amerca and Europe, having it placed in North Amerca will hopefully boost the North American scene. Like you said Europe may have more teams than North America, but with the coming of this big league we will hopefully be seeing more teams being created in North America. Therefor leveling the playing field between Europe and North Amerca. People use the term "letting the rich get richer", so in a way having this tournament in Europe would do just that, as Europe already has more teams than North America.
3) California. It is already the figurative center of the world for entertainment. Why not NASL?
Note: I am not in any way affiliated with NASL, the above are just my personal thoughts. Don't want anyone to get confused...
My Question:
I don't think it does, but does G4 have anything to do with NASL? I have seen this asked before, especially on the G4 interview comment section. Would you be open to cooperation with G4 if approached by them?
I had a weird dream, dare I say nightmare, where the host of AoTS was the lead commentator for these games, I know that won't be the case, lol, but it was a weird dream never-the-less.

So basically you guys create exceptions for non team members (who make a website for themselves to say they are on a team)? I have seen you say 2 people are qualified even though they dont have teams (they have their "own" solo teams). Then you tell another person if he does the EXACT same as the 2 that you qualified to play, he wouldnt be able to play.
This league is going to be a flop. You got different staff members saying contradictory stuff all over the place, horrible quality, misinformation, biased rules, etc.
Oh well.

If you did this, no you wouldn't be eligible according to the posts on here. But if IdrA was without a team and did this, he would be eligible. I'm sure they will try to deny this shortly, but just start at around page 13 and you can see him saying this in various responses.

I don't really get the idea of denying the best players in the world out of the tournament. It's not like GSL won't allow foreigners to at least try to qualify.
The 5 players per team rule is silly and makes no sense. And neither does that you have to be on a team. White-ra isn't on a team, so he can't participate? Retarded much?
|
Well if it does have problems/things that need tweaking they'll probably rework things to try and get it right, they have 3 seasons so hopefully at some stage it will get to a point where everything is working nicely / most people are happy with things. May as well just wait (still provide feedback and talk about shit of course) but not be overly critical until it starts, just to see how it all goes down.
|

Because White-ra has is "own" team (i.e. he made himself a website and he is the only member) he is allowed to participate. But if anyone else who they do not deem special case, they won't allow the same exact "team" creation workaround.

Oh thanks! <3
Additionally, a live broadcast does not allow smooth in-game camera cuts. Due to the level of our stream quality, which can be watched on a 72" widescreen TV, in-game camera cuts leave a "residue" of the previous shot. To be honest, how many nerds are going to be watching this on a 72´widescreen TV?
No offence, I appreciate the thought but please even though I live in Sweden and most of the GSL matches are at shit hours for me; I always find it worth it. If it's NOT casted live then I'm only paying for the replays with aftercasts and that makes the whole "live" thing totally worthless.
For me, atleast, I don't care if you guys don't have as much "wow" factor as GSL or as smooth camera working but I really do want it live. That's the most important point for me, yeah I might only ever be able to watch a very few episodes live but anything less ruins the immersion for me.
Sorry if I sounded harsh, but for me its a big thing. Hope NASL will be great; I'm paying for it... but not having it live = me sad panda

It will be interesting to see which players from EG will participate and how long before the two/three who are shut out will switch team. Incontrol, Idra, Machine, Demu, Grubby, Axslav, Strifecro and Lz - three have to go.
Such a stupid rule, I don't even...

I didnt read yet, VODs free or paid ? By I didnt read I mean I couldnt find ...

Oh well. I think it's a little early to say it will flop because of that, but they need to really sort out what they are doing with regards to rules, because you are right, the team rule is flawed and the exceptions being made are just more evidence of that.
As they were saying on SOTG, there's tons of collusion they can't stop, friends helping friends in specific group situations, guys not wanting to place #1 in their group if it means playing a friend in the 16 man stages (assuming there will be some A1 vs B2 format which I can't really confirm, they might just make up their own brackets for that)
I just think the most fundamental thing to get out of the way is your tournament and participation rules, and they don't have that outlined at all and in some cases are struggling to justify it. It gives me the impression they jumped the gun on this announcement, and the Clash of the Titans stuff sort of solidifies that in my mind.
I don't mind the live recording thing at all, no one complains that late night shows aren't live when they are filmed in the afternoon. In fact I think it's the best possible thing to do for online play. It just needs tremendously good production. A real set with proper lighting, good editing, good effects. And by that I don't mean a dude with Sony Vegas doing the post processing.
I am doubtful that the staff has the experience to pull this off in the way they envision it, it's not a knock at them at all, I just think they bit off a lot and are setting the standards incredibly high.
I'm looking forward to it regardless

Question: If there are EU and KR players in the tournament that are split in divisions, there will undoubtedly be matches between European and Korean players, which will have that dreaded lag that is tbh unbearable.
How will this issue be treated and possible solutions?

Difference; white-ra has shown that he can reliably show up for tournaments that he signs up for. Jim-bob of team Neckred can't show that he's going to be a reliable participant because he has no prior experience, and his team is not only unsponsored (giving him no monetary motivation to actually show up), but unknown and wouldn't really be worth a slot that could go to someone that has proven themselves to be reliable.
