You could read the g4 interview before posting your questions

For the funding that you've received how many seasons is that money going to go towards? We're already sold on three seasons. The money has been budgeted and secured. There's no like, “well gosh, if season one does really well then season two will be fine.” It's completely secure for three seasons. It's all insured and backed by Blizzard, that kind of stuff. And the idea again is that we laid down the infrastructure, it grows, gets easier as we go, and then if it's a profitable venture we can continue on for four, five, six seasons and beyond. --- Read more: http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/710588/North-American-Star-League-Exclusive-Interview-with-Geoff-iNcontroL-Robinson.html#ixzz1EjTJomXT

2) For the offline 16 man "finals" how big will the venue be? (how many seats available) Will there be booths? How much will we have to pay to attend the event?
1) Games cast LIVE!
2) We're thinking the venue will have 2,000 seats, and yes we will be having booths. The price to attend is not decided. We're going to be broadcasting every single game, unlike tournaments such as MLG that only cast 20% of the games played.

At which time (please include timezone ) will the games take place?

How fluid do you expect the 50-man roster to be between seasons. I know you have 4 spots already for the 1-4 finishers in the OPEN tournament. Approximately how many more spots do you expect will be up for grabs?
|
Is a sponsor going to be announced soon?

edit: xeris posted below me: Announced later.

Q: Can you further detail your plans to improve production values? Compare the show match last night to your expectations for the league's launch.
Q: What casters have you contacted about guest hosting the show?
Q: Do you see it as problematic that your casters may also be competitors in the league?
|
Will there be any objective criteria for picking players? If not for this season, will this change in future seasons? (I'm imagining something a little like GSL, where people who did well re-qualify for the next season, and there's some sort of competition for the remaining spots.)

Question: I understand the need for professionalism by requiring sponsored teams to be a pre requisite for joining the league. However i feel that this has been overlooked and you may have drawn a improper conclusion that would better be suited for a different genre of game. In RTS where there are many tournaments that appeal to a freelance player. he has a lot more room to grow his worth. Particularly This is something I myself and other intelligent fellows value. An example of this would be Moon in wc3.. He had not joined a team for 4? years. He remained solo and was able to grab a $70,000 contract with team MYM, which at the time was unheard of in the wc3 scene I feel that your league is sort of forcing the issue and certain players are going to suffer who wish to not be labeled under a banner. So what im asking is.. would you guys be looking to reconsider?

Since this is the "NASL" we are primarily catering to the American audiences for our LIVE broadcasts. But we will be rebroadcasting at EU hours for sure. The times are not 100% decided yet, but we will announce this as soon as posssible.

Question: Lets say that Team Liquid's players stay in Korea, will it be a problem for them to participate if they got the time? I mean is the Korean restriction to keep Korean players out, or is it becouse of the lagg?
|
Will you offer housing to state side travelers?
|
What counts as a "team" for the purposes of being eligible? How much are two teams allowed to work together before not being considered separate teams for purposes of the 5 person limit?
|
2000 seats and booths, very tasty.

Question: Are you at all afraid that making the majority of the tournament (the online part + 15/16 for the finals) reduces its credibility and/or appeal? Are you considering qualifiers for at least some of the online spots for future seasons, or other changes in rules?
I understand why the decision was made (the logistics of holding open qualifiers for the online tournament, the draw recognizable names have with more casual fans, and presumably a need to have an impressive line of invites lined up to attain sponsors), and don't necessarily disagree with it, but it also devalues the tournament from players point of view when they are passed over for people chosen based off more arbitrary criteria like name recognition and percieved skill rather than actual qualifiers, especially in a game still somewhat in its volatile infancy. I've seen several semi-pro/unknown top-200 players complaining about this on several forums. Was this a buisness-decision, or would you choose this format even if sponsors/viewers were guaranteed regardless?
Contrast this with the way GSL handled things, starting with open tournaments to give unknown players the chance to prove themselves, while simultaneously acting as qualifiers for GSL 4 and on. All of the first three seasons as well as Code A and qualifiers this year have had unknown or underrestimated players impress and earning recognition, which for me personally at least has been a big draw of the league. Of course, the situation was different at the time of GSL 1 since the game was only recently released and players had little opportunity to show their skill or earn recognition in time for the start of the tournament, but they also had the self-imposed limit of on-location qualifiers, while any hypothetical qualifiers for the NASL online stage could be done online as well.
Good luck anyway, I know I will be watching!

1) Now that we know what our problems were, it will be easier to fix them. We have recently upper our capabilities (much more powerful machines) that will allow us to encode and upload directly while filming, so this should clear up the sync problems (the showmatch was obviously pre-recorded, and the differing frame rates on our computers is likely what caused the sync issues). I can't give a fully technical response, obviously since this is not my field, but I can assure you that we've got what we need to fix our production value.
2) You'll be seeing about this at some point before the league starts.
3) Not really, if you watch the GCPL, both iNcontroL and Gretorp have been pretty good about keeping bias out of their casts. Obviously there's some fun jabbing, but we don't think there will be any real conflict of interests.
