Well, are you facing masters players on ladder, and how frequently? How are you doing against them? I'm in a pretty similar situation as you at 690 and rank 1 in my division, but I feel like I'm still not quite past the 'confidence buffer' yet.

I think it takes 2 seasons to reset your MMR. Or maybe it's a set amount of time. I haven't played team games since season 2 and it still hasn't made me play 5 placements yet, so actually I have no idea.

It's possible that the "skip a season to reset MMR" thing was not intended. When I first received confirmation of that at the start of Season 3, the explanation I got was "the system only looks back one season", which at the time was accurate. However, there was no indication about whether that was intended behavior.

I am doing a bronze+ experiment this season, so I might actually also play in my EU account this time. But it is working, I can confirm. It's like the third time I play my 5 placements in NA. I did it twice in EU. Winning the first 5 is too easy, so now I tried the other way around :D

Put differently, does one's bonus pool increase from the beginning of a season no matter when he plays his placement match? I think it doesn't change at all, and always increase at same rate. Of course some leagues have different rates, so it may increase more if you are say master or grand master than diamond or below.

The league promotion targets correspond to the lowest end of one league to the lowest end of the next highest, which covers the largest possible span. If you're in a higher division tier than the lowest, it would take less MMR (and effectively less points). Generally you'll know when you're close anyway based on the opponents you face regularly. For example, if the "Diamond to Master" chart references 535 required adjusted points for a next-season promotion, but you've already been facing Master players for a while and you have only 150 adjusted points, chances are you were in the highest Diamond division tier the whole time which starts you closer to the Master barrier. Keep in mind that their numbers don't include the confidence buffer required for mid-season promotions.

Doesn't that seem a bit strange? I was playing ~50% master league for a couple weeks before end of ladder and winning >50% of games. It's possible they tightened up the master league MMR boundaries. It's also possible that your perception of your own record was a little off. It might not have to be off by much.

It might not have to be off by much. It makes sense if they tightened up the boundaries at the beginning, and then as players become inactive again they open more spots. I was 7-3 in my last 10 games before the placement and 24-16 in previous 40 games... Maybe just not enough though. Oh well, time to gun for a mid-season promotion!

Yet, the MMR was not reset (previous consensus was that 1v1 and random teams mmr are linked). I still have to play just 1 match for 1v1 or random teams. So that could mean one of these two: 1. also AT MMR is linked, so if you play a game (doesn't matter which type) in one season the system remembers all your previous positions. 2. (linked with previous report) The MMR is no longer reset if you skip a season. Thankfully I have a friend that was last placed 1v1 in season 2 and 2v2/3v3 in season 3. That means he skipped 2 whole seasons. I'll try to get him tonight to connect and report how many placements he need to do.
