Are there any drawbacks? The only downside i can really see is that you would letting go of your mouse (right-handed) to select, and this might be hard to do mid battle.

Like if you did 0-9 as control groups, changed the enter to be "shift" so you could add to the groups, and like made "+" attack, then maybe used the insert/home/page up etc. keys to rebind to your unit productions and upgrades. You'd also have the "." "/" "*" "-" keys there that could all be rebound to needed hotkeys. Just a thought...I wouldn't do it but I could see there being a lot of benefit to having that layout for your control groups especially if you have smaller hands.

Oh, ok, im sorry i dont watch commercial crap put out by companies that have purchased gamers to sell their product. I think it was in a handheld cam video done by Artosis at the GSL where I saw players doing that, takin their hand off the mouse quickly. But what you said is cool too.

SideWinder X6 Keyboard Edit: I tried using the numpad on the left, but it was still a pain in the ass. No point using the numpad really, as far as I am concerned.

2 Cases: 1) You use your left hand: Then they are further than your regular 1 through 0, so it makes no sense 2) You use your right hand: Absolutely retarded. What if you need to forcefield in a match up? What if you need to quickly hold position, or attack move with all 3 of your control groups? No. No. No. I can't believe I spent 3 minutes of my life writing this, maybe I should have put some insults to make it worth my time lol. Hope this helps.

![]() But, some gaming keyboards actually have num pads on the LEFT side of the keyboard as well. I was thinking of buying one for using items in wc3, but when I heard sc2 wasn't going to have heros or items, I decided not to. So it could actually be quite efficient if you have a num pad on the left side of your keyboard, because I think taking your hand off the mouse is like losing your weapon in a sword fight :\

Custom key bindings might change that though. Make "attack" the right arrow key, "shift" the down arrow key (can use to put units in ctrl groups), and all the unit/building hotkeys in the Insert/Home/PgUp/PgDn/Del/End block.

So probably not something that is generally going to be viable.

If you have a third hand, however, then it would be an excellent idea.

I can't see it being feasible enough to set up a system to use the number pad but pro's definitely do use both hands on the keyboard from time to time.

I could imagine numpad to be useful for some sort of lefthanded keyboard layout, but it would be something you'd have to get used to. I don't know of anyone who does it. edit: should probably refresh threads before posting.

Just so the public can see his apm. It wasn't a commercial.
