Since we don't use CRT's anymore you can use a computer for 12 hours a day every day and not fuck up your vision anymore. The refresh rate and the way images were produced by CRTs caused that vision damage. LCDs don't have that problem.

I wonder how much loud music might end up throwing off players who are accustomed to playing with the music off. -_-

None, the players I'm sure got high end noise cancelling earphones. They dont use cheap headphones I'm sure and you otherwise would hear the progamers complain about this if it actually was a problem.
Stay gold.

those big ass headphones that some people use (those grey really huge ones) seem to be covering a lot of the noise.

Wasn't there also a big screen above the players at mlg dallas? It would be obvious if they looked up to see it, but why give them the option. Yeah and someone pointed out there are doors on those booths, you'll notice Boxer knocks before he opens his opponents booth . So polite after crushing their dreams.

The players could not see the screen as it was facing away from them. I was at MLG dallas and standing as close to the players section as possible, it was nearly impossible to focus on what the casters were saying. Let alone be able to make sense of it when you're playing a game.

Staring at a screen in in the dark still does. Assuming you like to play in the dark.

Demuslim claimed to hear the casters at the dreamhack tournament. Hope someone can eliborate here because if that was the case, then there is a possibilty that other players took advantage of it, rather than pausing the game.

I own a set of the ones they use. They're Sony XB500s or 700s (hard to tell) but they don't block an extraordinary amount of noise.

They should instead be giving the players the headphones Artosis and Tasteless use sans the mic. They're Sennheiser HD25s which are standard for media, casting and DJing work due to their amazing sound isolation.

Late in the game I'd kinda agree, but early game hearing the commentators talk about a proxy or all-in would be a massive advantage.

I recall MakaPrime complaining about how he couldn't focus in the booth cuz of the noise from the sound proof system or w/e... def has an effect on players

After having helped with some of the website stuff on site at one of the MLGs and being within spitting distance of day9 the whole time I can say that I didn't hear him once while casting and I wasn't even that concentrated on what I was doing ;p. There's tons of ambient noise at MLG and I'm sure if I was playing I'd be wayyyyyyyyy too focused on playing to try and hear anything.

I remember tastosis saying something about the booths being sound proof and yea, the gsl rules state that you HAVE TO have those huge headphones on at all times during the match so I'm pretty sure that they cant hear anything outside. Also, the crowds can react to any number of different things so I doubt they would actually take their eyes off the game to look at the audience. Only way I could see someone cheating is if they have someone in the audience giving them hand signals or something which is pretty retarded.

When did this forum become full of nits? I'm sure if it was that bad people would be complaining about it. You can always wear ear buds with some ear protection over it too. I mean I'm pretty sure idra and other people would bitch about it if it was deafening.

Unnecessarily rude -- all the guy said was that it was interesting and that he HOPED it wasn't harmful to the players... no need to be a dick to him for being concerned about the people who are the main reason we have these great games to watch.

Really, HuK typing about the crowd obviously means he couldn't hear them.

You'd be surprised how much louder a cheering crowd is than pretty much anything else in the world. They rival taking off jets if the crowd is big enough.

Mm, at DH it was impossible to hear Day9 when the crowd was cheering, generally the sound level was low since to hear the casting you pretty much had to keep quiet. ^^

IEM's with earmuffs over top like they did in SC1 is really the only way I can see noise canceling with no side effects being achieved
