Why does it occur?
You got your ass kicked so hard that you lost three million points, obviously.
But seriously, I'd like to know this too, I've seen it in other profiles too.

The decimal is not actually a decimal, the e in the number stands for exponent 10. So what could say 3.359e-09 would actually be 3,359,295,195,749 or whatever. If it's e^-9 instead of e^9, then it's actually more like .000000003359

I had over a 50% win/loss ratio. I had lost a few games, but for the most part I've been at 50% for the past 3 weeks. I haven't played since the last patch aside from maybe 5 games. I lose my promotional match today, and to my surprise i was demoted that far...What gives? How can I sit at rank 1 for months, and then one match drop me that far?

I posted this in another similar thread on this issue, but since this thread will probably survive longer, worth making the point here too -- in the bronze-platinum leagues, before the reset, the vast majority of players ranked below maybe the top 5 were inactive. Since all ranked players have been active in the last day, now, that is pretty much like taking those top people from each season 1 division and reorganizing them into 100-person divisions, while deleting all the people who have stopped playing. As for why you were demoted, probably your MMR was low enough to fall within the Silver league range but high enough not to qualify for a demotion before, or else you were on track to be demoted already but the system had not yet evaluated you for one. Since the ladder's being entirely reset, you're landing in a new spot based on MMR alone.

The bonus point system is intended to fix this by letting active players move past them, but when you have tens of thousands of players who play 5 placements and then lose interest in SC2, it's going to be an issue no matter what you do. I'm excited about this ladder reset because it means that I'm in a division full of active players now, most of whom probably won't stop playing if they haven't already. That should make ladder ranking a fairer indication of how everyone falls within the active player population.

I dunno about that, you're right of course that a much higher percentage of the people in your division will be active, but I think there are quite a number of people who are "active" in the sense that they regularly play a few games, but don't play enough to use up their bonus pool. So I think there will still be the effect of the ranks within divisions just sorting by games played.

That's true, but it's going to be far less of a profound effect in the lower divisions than it has been (where typically only the top 1 or 2 players in a division have used up their bonus points.)

So I think we have a good chance to guess it right if we say these plat are A, and you're 3 tiers lower that, so you are probaly on an A rank Gold (remember: there are only 2 tiers on gold, the S and the A, 3 on platinum S-B). Starting the new season it won't be true anymore, so enjoy the knowleadge for the time being :D (that also mean you already have platinum (rank B) skill, so when the ladder reset you might start at platinum already) Your prediction came true, I placed Plat after my placement. ![]()

Then what happens? I win against a diamond!! And get platinum anyway. It's all about MMR ![]()

Any way we can help figure out the new division tiers? I already know 100% of the diamond and platinum divisions tiers on Latin America server, not 100% confirmed though, I'll try to 100% confirm in 2-4 weeks when people get more points and 12/12 point games are not as rare as panda bear. I posted on Brazil-side Battle.net forum only because there are at least 2 players that care about it there and I am not sure if anyone here care about LA ![]() Anyway, it can be done, but the higher the number of players, the higher the number of divisions and then it will require massive help of the players themselves, it would have to be a project with engagement of the community, while on LA side I can do it all by myself.
