Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
I have a couple simple ideas for zerg's macro mechanic, since other races can save up energy and dont have to keep up with it as much and since i feel like most of my losses are because i ran out of larva and have 2000 extra minerals. (it is not to make it autocast, that is a horrible idea.) Wasnt sure if this was worth starting a thread over.
I think it would be more fair if we could stack one larva inject at a time. We would still have to manually inject and would still be limited to larvae popping every 40 seconds, but we could plan one injection in advance, which would give a little bit of leeway.
Just in case its unclear i will give an example: Your queen has been out a while, it has 40 energy saved up, so you inject some larva. 15 seconds later you are back up to 25 energy. The first spawn larva still has 25 seconds until it pops, but you can add another spawn larva onto your hatch so it will begin producing larva as soon as the first one spits out larva (it will start its 40 second cycle as soon as the first one ends). So basically it treats the spawn larva like a production building but with only 1 queue instead of 5.
That might make it a little too easy especially considering all you have to do is build another hatch. But I think it would be nice if there was some kind of sound notification atleast. (Overmind voice: "Your larrrvaa hasss sssspawwwwnnnned grghrghrghr")
Can zealots use charges on its own troop for retreats? First of all I'm not a toss player, just wondering how would that workout even if it takes alot of effort to micro. If you can charge on a probe, which is placed as a step-stone for exit usage, or charge on things as an early-charge into your opponent's face, will the micro worth it?

I think zerg needs a bit of boost after the roach nerf and this sounds like it. Plus, this may allow some sick timing build to be discovered.
The current zerg macro mechanics really punish newer players.
September Thread closed right after i posted this , so Copy&Pasting here
Hey guys , I just made a Starcraft Calendar desktop application based on TL Calendar but i think it needs a little beta test before full release. I already had a few friends to test it , but unfortunately none of them are Sc2 players so it would be nice to hear somethings from you guys.
It's semi open source at the moment. All code files are released , I'm only keeping the art/styles to myself for a while as they are not my own stuff anyway ( Copy/Paste/Edit Official Blizzard art etc , I'll release them too in future (probably with full release ) )
Edit: I just noticed , i haven't really explained what it does , silly me.
What does it do? As i said before , it's a calendar application based on TL Calendar. When you run the application , it connects to Team Liquid Calendar and gets all events ; then first , shows you 5 of them ( 5 is default , can be changed from settings ) . Then it stays in System Tray ( as you can see in screen shots below ) , and if there is an event in next 1-2 hours , pops up notifications to ... well notify you ie. "Day9 Daily starts in 1hour 30 minutes" -> "Day9 Daily starts in 45 minutes" -> "Day9 Daily starts in 22 minutes"
i think it's kinda spammy at the moment but obviously i need your feedbacks about those kind of stuff. Also you don't need to wait for them to disappear , you can right click on context menu or notifications to instantly close them.
And also you can check all upcoming&past events in Calendar window ( Big picture below ). TLpd and TL Forum links all works ( opening links in default browser ).
If you have worries about security ; Codeplex is Microsoft's open source community , so it's not just a random rapid share link. Also source code is open and can be downloaded from "Source Code" tab. Further more VirusTotal result here.
It's just 5 Mb , just try it ; if you don't like it , there won't be any stupid leftovers like dlls , keys etc. when you uninstall it.
It's all done in Visual Studio 2010 using Wpf / C# . It's more like a Winforms app written in Wpf , if you know what i mean. Hardly uses the strength of Wpf technology except all eye candy stuff. No data binding awesomeness or etc.
I also have wyBuild implemented for future updates/patches but not fully functional at the moment. So don't freak out when it tries to connect my website to check for updates.
If you try it , PLEASE let me know what you think about it and report any bugs / errors. I mean that's the whole point of beta You can PM me for any feedback , and I'll probably open a thread about it if beta goes well for any further talk and stuff.

What I was thinking was actually allowing 2 injects to run simultaneously. The main issue with your suggestion is that yes, it will help some, but even with perfect larva timing using this, queens will still burn only 1-2 energy per larva cycle. With the ability to "double inject", you could burn 25ish energy per cycle. It would also increase the ability to play off of one base with 2 queens, which would help zerg tremendously. This may end up being overpowered, but consider that even with infinite larva, you can only build as many units as you have resources, so at least in the early game I'm not sure how outrageously overpowered this may or may not be. If it WAS allowed, spawn larva would probably require a nerf, like say +10 second duration, to help balance it out.

Unlikely, since my guess is IdrA provided Artosis with the replay to cast it, cause he trusts that he's not releasing the replay as IdrA is generally not releasing any replays of himself.
I have a question, I keep hearing ppl say "the meta game" I'd like a definition of that plz, I'm kind of clueless, it sounds like a game within a game or like many games together, i don't see the meaning. ty

In starcraft the term metagame is usually just used to describe how strategies and play styles develop over time.
On October 03 2010 15:58 kaztal wrote: what is the benefit of going hatch -> pool rather than pool -> hatch?
You generally have a slightly stronger econ, because you got your hatch up 200 minerals earlier, and as soon as the pool morphs, you have a stronger production base immediately because of the extra larva without having to wait for your queen. If your opponent does an aggressive build, you can still defend it because of this excess larva, and if your opponent does an econ build, you can pump drones. If you 14hatch 14/13pool your pool will come around the same time as your second hatch.

Is this to keep his builds and strategies under wraps?
I got two questions I've been waiting to ask. First off, is the sc2 apm still lower than the real apm? I remember in the beta ppl said it was like 35% or so lower than your actual apm.
Secondly, do any other zerg have problems with drones following the attack unit rally points instead of the miner rally point?
So I and my toss buddy were watching the GSL finals yesterday, and during that a thought popped up. Medivacs are so strong! (I guess every non-Terran has figured that one out by now) SO what I thought of is: Make the healing ability something to research. A Medivac should be a dropship at the beginning, having to research healing at the sacrifice of some (if not all) carrying capacity(cause the healing tech needs to go somewhere, which will take loading capacity away). Or maybe make an upgrade button (something like "morph corruptor into broodlord", but just "add technical facilities to heal units") on the unit itself. The Idea is that it will make 1 ship drops less effective.
So I see these ideas:
1 a)Healing is an upgrade in the Starport techlab, maybe just take the fucking Caduceus Reactor away (since nobody reasearches that anyway other than when they're 3/3 and going into the second hour of the game with excess gas), cost 100/100 and takes 60-100 seconds to research. Nothing else happens to the Medivac.
1 b)The above, just removing 4 small unit slots from the capacity and making the research a little faster and cheaper
2 a) Healing is an upgrade on the Medivac itself, and can be done individually for 50/50 (20 sec.)each, during which the medivac can't have any units inside it (i.e. is useless), afterwards it is just like the Medivac we have now.
2 b)The above, with the restrictions implied in 1 b).
What are your thoughts?

Hey everyone, here is a Zerg build I would like reviewed. It requires Lings, Roaches, and a 7 minute time attack.
9 Overlord 15 Pool 14 Gas 15 Overlord 15 Queen 17 Zergling 18 Zergling 19 Zergling 20 Zergling 20 Roach Warren ( you can replace this drone if you'd like, but it's not necessary ) 19 Zergling 20 Zergling 21 Overlord 21 Roach ( these 5 come with your queens larvae and 2 at base ) 23 Roach 25 Roach 27 Roach 29 Roach 31 Lair 31 Drone ( helps econ just enough ) 32 Overlord 32 Roach 34 Roach 36 Roach 38 Roach Speed 40 - Attack @ 7 minutes and decide if you want to spam Lings to finish him off, or tech up.
I did not get Ling speed simply because it allows your Roaches to keep up with your Lings when attacking, and I did not get a second gas because you need those 1-4 Drones on minerals throughout this whole build. Please comment.
How do people know their ID number? Like "scnickname.ID#" ?? And how do you add people like that. For example they say they're scplayer.128 how do you add them?

If you hover over Your portrait you will get your name and the ID.
As for adding people press add friends and click on the SC2 friend rather than real ID.
Why are most of the Zerg players rejecting the idea of larvae inject through mini map?
If you've given more practice for the precise clicks on the mini map, shouldn't it be the most rewarding way to macro injections?
Also did someone on one of TL's forum stated that when the larvae pops/hatchery ready for injects, you can point at the hatchery through your mini map to see colour changes(or something)? I'm not sure, can someone confirm this? I use the backspace click* technique for all my injections, so I just want to know what's the set back from this before I do any changes that I might regret.
Can someone tell me how to make the camera follow a unit in the replay viewer? I've looked all over the SC2 options menus to try and figure it out, and also searched on google. I've also tried hitting random keys on my keyboard to find the hotkey but I haven't been able to find it >.<

if you click and hold on the unit portrait it will follow a unit, this also works in game. As far as I know there is no toggle for following a unit so you gotta hold mouse 1 down

Has anyone evern won a real ZvP? That is, against a protoss player that wasn't a 4-gate clown? A ZvP that went far into the midgame, with colossus or storm and crap? Personally I've deemed it impossible, and I've tried everything for ~500 games.
I was curious, if any higher level zerg players could provide me with their insight on this zerg glitch, and its effectiveness ingame. here is a screenshot showing it.
Basically, just like other variations, this works due to the tiny amount of creep thats left behind with a cancelled hatchery. Im curious, would this be a viable way to spread creep to places you normally wouldnt have creep at yet. (before lair).

I use the minimap for inject as zerg and I don't reject it. I used to hotkey seperate queens to check for energy but with the minimap it's so much easier.
The target icon changes to green when you're highlighting inject larvae on the minimap if it isn't already hatching but it's kind of hard to notice when you're microing at the same time since the target is really small.

Canceling a hatch costs a few minerals so it's usable in a situations but not economically viable in the early game.
Someone knows how to Micro Stack workers in order to defend? I had a couple lings attacking a terran mineral line and he defended stacking his scvs on a mineral, attacking with his scvs to 1 zergling (also only 1 zergling was able to attack 1 of them) and almost killing my wave of ligns with only scvs. Someone knows how to do that?

So you're going to wander your queen to ridiculous places where if he has any kind of scouting it'll die, to cancle a hatchery which costs you minerals. That's not even counting the injects you miss.
Yeah the hatch cancel stuff is not really usefull, I tried to uses it in ZvZ to build a spine crawler off to the side where he can't see it being built. The problem is that u have to save up some money just to do the trick and then the crawler starts taking damage until u move it into his creep, so usually its already half dead when it finally plants itself.
I gave up on, I'm sure there's a way to use it to wall off but I don't see that being usefull for zerg.
I'm not real sure where to post this, but just a random question..
Ever since the game came out I've been more into spectating games rather than playing them. I know there is youtube and also livestreaming all over the place, but it's just not the same as actually spectating and having the luxury to move your own camera around the map. Is there a place or a channel in IRC where people wouldn't mind so much for letting me spectate their matches?
Just had a slightly amusing ladder game.. so I go for the blue flame hellion drop on my P opponent, He pulls his probes away as his army scare away my dropship: + Show Spoiler +
Assuming im gonna fly away, he pulls back his probes...well the rest is history. + Show Spoiler +
The above event was closely followed by a GG from my opponent.

this used to be the basis for offensive crawler rush.
to curb this, one of the beta patches severely reduced the off-creep movement speed of the queen.
you can use the glitch to 'proxy tumor' to get a head start on your tumor creeping, or maybe to proxy a T1 building; but you can't send your queen too far off-creep, or you will miss too many injections and fall behind on your macro. Also if your opponent spots your queen or suspects that you'll try to do this, just 1-2 units will kill your queen. Lastly, it costs minerals to do this, AND you have to save up 300 minerals for a hatch to cancel, which is crippling in the early game.
I've been goofing around with a 12 Drone expand without the overlord using a double gas trick, anyone try this? It actually seems to cover the i'm going to die space as zerg pretty well but I really want to try testing it. This is probably a really old strategy thats been tried and proven wrong in BW but i'm looking for confirmation that this is a terrible idea.

this makes perfect sense to me. to me it's simply like queueing up units or upgrades on buildings.

Another idea - It takes the same ~45 seconds, but instead of doing 4 larvae per inject, it does one per 7 energy, and it can do as many as the queen has energy (not 100% sure on how you could set this up to not use all the energy incase you wanted to save 50 for a transfusion or 25 for a tumor without having to make extra clicks, but yea). It would still only have the effectiveness of 1 queen on the hatchery done perfectly (actually, slightly less since it now takes 28 energy to get 4 larvae instead of 25), but would allow you to use excess energy from poor timing (I know I do have this problem as well as most players). It could also open up some interesting timing attacks at the highest levels where you intentionally save energy and spit 6 or 7 larvae for a specific time to have more units for that brief period.
At the moment though, once I get my 3rd base, I'll put 2 excess hatcheries, one in my main and the other in my nat, and I don't even bother with a queen at my 3rd, and just do extra injects on my main and nat hatcheries when I fall behind. Its far from perfect, but it allows me to make mistakes and still do fine. And, should that fail, I just spam extra hatcheries. It costs an extra 150 minerals per hatchery than it would if I used queens perfectly, and I don't have as many queens for defensive purposes, but it means I don't need to use queens perfectly..... Not that bad of a tradeoff when you get to mid/lategame imo.

Can anyone explain to me how I get ahold of the different unit sound files for SC2? Like the marine/ghost etc.. I cant find any .oggs .wavs or anything
I'm assuming they're in MPQ files or something.. is there a way to extract them out of it?

Its more about what is happening around the game. It is how popular strategies influence overall gameplay. For instance, with the overall popularity of the protoss 4gate, many startegies and builds used versus toss are evaluated on the basis of if and how well they can deal with 4gate pressure. over time, people will come up with build orders that can crush straight up 4gate play and the popularity of the build will slowly decrease as it is dropped in favour of other, newer, more effective strategies and eventually, builds versus protoss will no longer have to account for 4gate pressure since you see it very rarely. the metagame has now changed.
a good example for majopr metagame shifts comes from professional BW. before Fantasy, T rarely if ever used mech against Z and Zerg builds did not incorporate any units very capable of dealing with mechnised armies as a consequence. So when Fantasy showed that you could fight the ususal Muta/Ling mix with Valkyries and Goliaths, the popularity of mech play in TvZ increased dramatically and the general dynamic of the matchup changed because of the change in the metagame.
When you download a custom map from b.net is it cached locally on your machine anywhere? I downloaded a version of YABOT through the b.net custom games thing but I cannot find a copy of it on my hard drive to open with the map editor for offline testing.

But I don't seem to find anything about joining teams in SC2 on the forums here. If anyone has a few tips, it would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've seen, making threads about recruiting people to clans is considered the same as advertising http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=117332 and asking to vote for someone and not allowed. If someone making clan thread hasn't been long enough on these forums that is.
It would be nice to see a mod give an opinion about this

As far as I know "bonjwa" is not allowed at all. If I'm not mistaken it all comes down to that most threads it is used in, don't generate meaningful discussion.
Instead of using word "metagame" use "standard strategies", "standarized strategies", "currently favoured strategies", whatever.
I personally use the mini-map larvae inject. I will give you my example, I have every hatchery on 5 and every queen on 6 and when it comes time to inject (I have the timing pretty much in my head now) I just hit 6v the little aimer cursor comes up when you go over the mini map and then I click it on my hatchery. The cursor turns from a greyish color to green when you go over your hatchery. It is a very subtle switch but you can notice it easy with very little practice.
Here are a few of the changes we currently have planned:
· We're increasing roach range. This will allow roaches to be more effective in large groups, giving the zerg more options in the mid to end game.
· Fungal Growth will now prevent Blink, which will give zerg a way to stop endlessly Blinking stalkers which can be very challenging to deal with in large numbers.
· The Barracks are going to require a Supply Depot, which will impact a lot of early terran reaper pushes.
· The reaper speed upgrade will require the Factory, which is meant to weaken a lot of the early terran reaper attacks that dominate so many matches, especially in team games.
· We're making a number of increases to the health of zerg buildings, which will make the very vulnerable zerg technology structures more resistant to raids. We don’t expect these hit point changes to have a super significant impact on the game, but the current numbers felt way too low.
Infestors now have a 50% chance of spawning Infested Marauders. Stim is now upgradable for Infested Marines and Infested Marauders at the spawning pool. Ultralisks now have Catapult Mode. Catapult mode immobilizes the ultralisk, but nearby banelings can be catapulted within 13 range of the ultralisk. Corruptors have been given the ability to switch between flight and crawl mode. While in crawl mode, Corruptors are treated as ground units and can not shoot air units. Mutalisks have been given the burrow ability, and can attack and move while burrowed. Hatcheries have a new evolution. They may evolve into Orbital Hatcheries and gain the following new abilities: Calldown: Overlord - instantly calls down an overlord anywhere on the map to provide scouting information. Calldown: Hat - gives an existing overlord a hat. Happy overlords provide 8 additional supply. Calldown: Ultralisk - instantly calls down an ultralisk. Ultralisks can now mine minerals. Drones have a new evolution. They may evolve into the Point Defense Drone, and they will shoot down projectiles.
I remember there was a starcraft 2 trailer where one wave of units would destroy the other, then a new wave would come in and counter the winning wave. For examples, immortals came in and blew away siege tanks. I can't find it anymore. Could someone give me a link?

How are 6 pools working against Protoss now since the zealot build time has been reduced? They were a bit hard to fend off before but now I imagine them being excruciating.
Im a terran player, and I think the Orbital Command should also be unlocked by the engineering bay like the PF, it would damage a lot of terrans BOs and make for a better game.
Is anyone else finding that their replays aren't showing up after ladder games? I've played like 10 today without anything showing up in my replay folder.
Is Blizzard going to fix the Thor? It's designed to do splash vs. light air. But as everyone knows, you let the mutas/phoenix separate and the Thor no longer does splash. You can't "Magic Box" Colossus/Ultralisk/SiegeTanks, its a bug, a glich.
It's ruining the matchup. It's really limiting terrans options. And if they don't fix it I'm going to start playing another race.

So suddenly a Terran has a problem with the game, good, I can understand that, maybe he want some suggestion? Some appropriate responses....
Oh wait, what is he asking? Oh he want Blizzard to "solve" it, or else! He's changing his race!
Well we are welcome. If you think Terran is being strangled? Or use you phrase, limited? Try Zerg and see what you can pull off with only handful of unit choices. And the meat grinding mechanism which you're just gonna LOVE. Also I don't think you're gonna want to see what's happening to Protoss, they've most recently got adopted into Blizzard tough-love patching series; becoming the latest punch-bunny for Mr. Browder.

In case you guys havn't seen it, they also gave the winning ratios and stated that while things are balanced on the ratios with skill, Zerg needs some buffs(I'm paraphrasing). Considering Terran vs Zerg is at 50% or slightly less across all leagues, this array of nerfs/buffs is going to give away the early game to Zerg, and the last thing you want vs Zerg is to let them drone freely. I don't know, does anyone else here think these changes together are warrented?

I'm confused about the posting of the GSL prelims on the TL calendar. It says that the prelims started on Saturday the 9th. The other days listed are Sunday (10th), Tuesday (12th), and Wednesday (13th). All these are the days they're starting in Korea, in US timezones it'd be 8th through 12th.
GOMtv's English site says that it will take place Oct. 9th through 12th.
The preliminary rounds will be held from the 9th of Oct. to the 12th.
These seem inconsistent to me, although I'm not sure if GOMtv's English site is listing dates in US timezones or Korea timezones (I'd assume Korean). Did I miss something?
Not that it really matters since RO64 doesn't start until the 18th, but I'm anxious to find out who makes it through.
Ive been having this problem lately and what happens is that i win a match and it tells me how many points i got, then when i look at my points i always get less then what it told me at the score screen, wait no always but just sometimes, is anyone else having this problem???

good thing theres a restriction
check the spgl thread and read it again, what kind of chat are you talking about? you gave us pretty much no info just saying that you need help logging on to chat.
I see it now. The chat is an spgl thing which i just found. I thought it was like aan in game chat thing, that everyone used in the event of a tournament. But as a question for you, if you have ever particpated in a tournament before, how do you like get into it? They said chat and be logged into battle.net. But does that mean my account or the game? In game, what would I click on? I need just basic help for a tourney noob.

Hey guys, curious about getting some Zerg tips. Been playing Terran for a long time and never really thought about switching. After playing around with Zerg I find them to be very intriguing and much more fun to play. Wondering if anyone has any tips for increasing my APM so I can actually play them properly, kind of tough for me it seems.
Wouldn't it be kind of cool to be able to observe a game? You could have the options to choose what level game you want to spectate (by this I mean league). So if I am diamond and I wanna see what other diamond players are doing... just observe a game. Of course there are multiple details needed to be solved but I thought it might be kind of cool addition to Battle.net

Would be nice but there would definitely have to be a cap or something to prevent others from lagging the players. I always see some spectator chat when I watch people's casts though, I always wondered how they got in when the caster has stated that the game was on ladder.

yeah..some sort of auto-kick due to lag and max 2 observers per game or something would do the trick.

What league are you in? Not because I want to be ass just because it does kinda matter. First thing for good APM is using the keyboard for everything and not clicking buttons, then you need to use hotkey as much as possible and double-tap them to switch the screen around instead of scrolling. Ofc you might already know that. -_-
Hey guys - Did some coverage of the Comic Con SC2 tournament with an interview with TL's Huk and some cool footage of some of the TL crew cheering him on. All that is in part 1 of the video at Starcraft.org http://starcraft.org/blogs/starcraft/888
Not trying to self promote as the show covers more amateur play than high level TL type stuff, but thought some of you would enjoy the comic con parts.

In starcraft the term metagame is usually just used to describe how strategies and play styles develop over time.
Metagame is actually a game theory (branch of mathematics / economics) term.
It refers to an agents use of information not revealed in the game itself as part of their information set. For instance, there may be a tendency for protoss to 4 gate, so you incorporate this into your decision making without actually scouting this within the game itself.
This is the meaning of the term meta game, im sure you could wikipedia it for a better one though.

I'm in Platinum, could be in diamond with Terran but I just don't want to play them anymore after experiencing Zerg. Those are good ideas, I knew about them I just need to force myself to use them all the time. I don't have every keybind down so that's a good idea. I'm great with my opening, I get 14 gas 14 pool and get speed early, I'm pretty good with drone timing and scouting as well as keeping my overlords pumping.
The problem comes during the transition from early game to mid game. I get overwhelmed with the amount of stuff to keep track of i.e. mini map, scouting, injecting, building etc.. and I feel like my hands just won't move fast enough for the amount that needs to be done. Which is why I think I need some exercises that I can practice against an easy ai just to get my speed up. How on earth are people getting 300 APM is sort of my question. I don't know what to do.
How are people buildings several buildings at once with several workers in under a second? Clicking one, then building something, then clicking another and building something else takes forever for me. Is there some hotkey secret I'm missing...not to mention they do this during huge battles.

Hey, wondering if somebody can help me out? I'm trying to learn my buddy how to play. He favors Protoss, and that's pretty cool. Problem is, I'm not as good at Protoss as I am at the other 2 Races. He prefers going 2-Gate Robo more then anything else, so here's my question:
Who would I search for in replays for some good Robo play? I know NonY does Phoenix's, so he's out. TesteR does Robo, right? He wants to start playing vs players, so I figured I would should him some stuff he can "copy" and not suck horribly.

YouTube / video links would help, as well.
It is becoming more and more common that Protoss are using Robos. Based on the current trends, you can pretty much see any player using them a lot.

Why do me and my 2v2 partner (we are in bronze) consistently play against platinum and even diamond people sometimes? Sure, we are not at a bronze skill level, but we did not sandbag, we were placed there. If we are deemed good enough to play against them, why not promote us?
FishFuzz99, you get promoted after they know what league you are in. That can take 50 games if oyu are unlucky. Basically they check against which skillrange of players you lose and win 50:50 and then promote you to the league those players are in.
Now a small strategy question from me regarding ZvZ. I almost always go linb/baneling/muta in ZvZ, because of the speed and because I felt like it was general consensus that it is the stronger mid game army. I have lost a few games against roach hydra combined with a few sporecrawlers now and wonder if roach hydra might not be the better choice. So what are the pro and cons for each army composition ?
I've been having something happen to me recently and was wondering what this was.
The situation is this... I'm about to win a game when my opponent suddenly pauses, he possibly says 1 sec or possibly doesn't. It's really annoying to pause when I'm about to win, but I let it go anyways to be a nice person. 5 minutes go bye and that's my limit, so I unpause. IMMEDIATELY (like .01sec) they leave the game and I get my victory.
So is there some sort of exploit or trick that lets people pause & leave while the other player is stuck on pause? It seems like some sort of BM way to try and waste time of the other player. It's happened to me 2-3 times now and it seems odd. I could understanding leaving when I unpause, but this is INSTANT leaving so it seems like it's not just a normal leave type of thing.
Why is a Planetary Fortress that has been contaminated by an Overseer still able to shoot!?
Is this intended by Blizzard or a bug? Zerg has the hardest time in dealing with PFs anyway, would make for great moments and more excitement, and to me it just makes perfect sense that a contaminated building loses its functionality. I was so disappointed when I did this and felt really good about that move, just to witness the PF still blasting away my troops

It does not seem he is mouse clicking anything to get around. How do you do it on keyboard only with like Barracks, factory and starport hotkeyd on the same key?
I hope i am not mistaken. And if it really can be done, im excited to see if i can get better macro with that style of play.

You use tab for switching between different types of buildings. The same thing applies to units when you have everything hotkeyed to 1 button.
Hey i have been wondering this for a while... if you have any buffing abilities (ie. transfusion with queen, don't know any others) how do u use it efficiently? because you can't just use it on the RED icon that's about to die. you have to manually search through the main screen for the dead unit (its too late). also if anyone knows any other buffing abilities please enlighten me from my ignorance.

anyone notice the game being really choppy after the roach range patch? I mainly notice it during the first 2 or 3 minutes of the game, and i've seen it on some live streams too, i'm worried that the game is unstable right before mlg....

It makes me wonder if blizzard will ever correct these obvious game-quality-hurting bleeders:
When Marauder's concussive shell got called out not being a f*kin baller itself, what is Blizzard's reaction? Blizzard made Terran throw down a depo before ANYTHING. This is a step stating they will make everything even more stupid, just to continue let something new and feeble to be cross-over blossom behind the brains of the newcomers. Everybody knows alot of things can never happen if this ability don't go away, but since Blizzard stated in beta (or much earlier) that the game will be much excessable for non RTS gamers (not my exact words I'm afraid), so the idea are starting to dawn on me now. Though my encounter with BW goes way back and very limited, the idea is you can't force alot of things to work in SC2. The game is morbidly tooned to cash in fresh meat with simple curiosity of a RTS game.

Requirements Only thing you need is .Net Framework 3.5 which already comes with Windows 7. Download & Source http://sccalendar.codeplex.com/

Requirements Only thing you need is .Net Framework 3.5 which already comes with Windows 7. Download & Source http://sccalendar.codeplex.com/

Hey there, On/Off times is a good idea , I'll try to implement that in next version ; preferred list is a little more complicated ; i have much bigger plans for ScC ( which includes such stuff ) but it'll take loong time as I'm terribly busy these days. I'll release next beta version soon ( in a week ? ) with stream support but unfortunately I'm not having enough feedback on this version. For example i just found out , although the application just requires .Net 3.5 , stupid installer thinks it requires .Net 4.0 so tries to install .Net 4.0 at installation -_- So please , if you try it , tell me about your experience so i can fix/improve it. My last term in university and I'm overwhelmed by university related projects but slower or not ; I'll keep working on ScC.

it would be cool if you could use the megst statues
I wish you could hot key the mengst statues. That way, for terran, (lets say your hotkey for it is 1) you could double click 1 and see if any dudes are coming with a sensor tower.
Maybe some protoss player can answer this... when facing such a marauder heavy force with colossi why do protoss players never use warp prisms to keep their colossi from being sniped? It's not like the Terran player is in a good position to pick off the warp prisms if his vikings are down (which seems to be common in the case of a player like select).

Actually, this did cross my mind a few times but in the end it wasn't very practical due to a few reasons.
1- Warp prisms production will halt/decrease colossi production since they are produced from the robotics facility.
2- 200 Minerals can be better spent on more gateway units to support and protect the colossi.
3- Warp prisms aren't very fast and they are pretty fragile. A group of stimmed marines possibly could take out the warp prism quickly.
4- Moving the colossus away is easier and less micro intensive and is safer for higher latencies in my case.
I could have misunderstood your question but these are some reasons I didn't try it. If I see a very marauder heavy force I might give it a go. I do like to do warp prism harass/drops whenever possible in later stages of the game.

Actually, it is best to have health bars turned on 100% of the time. This can be done in the options menu.

Forum icons are determined by a combination of posts and join date. The exact formula is a well kept secret by the TL mods. It is fairly easy to figure out though if you spent some time trying. There is one user who's profile has all the info you need, but if I told you the monkeys would come and kill us all.

I don't understand why i have to do this to use a technique that was present in previous blizzard games... Why can't Blizzard include the function of using the icons down the bottom? They had the function in Warcraft III of using abilities on your own units where you just click on the unit's icon to do an ability on that unit eg. heal. if you had multiple queens in one control group and want to heal them properly you have to use the main screen... it doesn't make much sense to me that they got rid of a useful function. If this function were used, the zerg technique with all queens and hatcheries in one control group could work. Instead of using the ability on the minimap you could just inject each hatchery's icon, and the nearest queen with energy should inject that hatchery. This would also be beneficial to any lategame queens and ultralisks, as it will be easier to heal the right units. How can i personally inform blizzard of this deficiency? i would really like to know... just so i don't get banned or something, i really do like starcraft and want to keep playing. And if it proves too beneficial to the zerg, perhaps they need some buffing abilities for other races.

Maybe it's just me since i'm bronze but every time i use a warp prism, they get shot down so fast. It wouldn't seem like a good idea to bring a warp prism with paper plating to a battle but if the terran's army is ONLY marauder (why would there only be marauders? don't they usually mix in marines too? and stim.. o.o) then it would be pretty awesome to see a warp prism saving a colossus! Maybe what i'm saying is nub material since i'm in bronze...^^

This was possible in the first month or 2 of beta, but they removed it from the game because it defeated the purpose of the macro mechanics, which is to force you to go back to your base and take your attention away from your army.
OK really I didn't find "Blizzard patch suggestion topic" but anyways:
You know when you have loads of replays like from tournament or stuff...it's all in loads of subfolders. You run the replay you want and you watch it, when it's over you exit the replay. But Battle.Net 2.0 puts you in position to again go trough all of the subfolders and find the subfolder you were in (basically if you have BO3 game you want to watch it all three and all three are in same subfolder). They should really fix Battle.Net 2.0 to make you stay in subfolder you were previously in.
EDIT:
Also enable CTRL+A to select all of the text when renaming replay and don't let replay rename itself while saving and entering new subfolder.

Can anyone help me please? I'm too getting a new mouse as soon as my SC2 copy arrives, I'm currently using a generic USB Logitech black mouse (chunky as hell).
So well, my hand is 6.7inches long (pretty small hands, I'm 5'7''), and don't really have the option to try every gaming mouse I could, here in Peru there's only one place for decent PC hardware and mice aren't the biggest concern.
I have massive trouble sidescrolling on my big widescreen monitor playing on it's maxium resolution. I've recently turned off scaling, and turned the resolution down, so in effect my SC2 now has a much more "Broodwar/Wc3" mouse feel to it. I find it's much easy to scroll around, even though I have reduced vision.
Does anyone else do this? Or is it simply the fact I should be using mouse 3 to scroll? Or just have much higher sensitivty/DPI? Is there anything massively wrong with me doing that, or could it simply be my preference?
I believe I saw HuK doing something similar at MLG, he had bars down the side of his widescreen monitor.

@Silverpotato: Yeah, you should not look at the actual rating, but the highest rating atm minus 500 i would say. Or even less. It´s just how the rating system works, it wants to make you feel good when you hit a ranking which a pro had a few weeks before.
I got a question for you guys.
I didnt find any FAQs about it, im sorry i think its common knowledge but could someone plz explain to me the Race+Number thing in a Tournament / League matchup like in the gsl 1+2. What i mean is, Player A Vs B. Player A is red coloured as T3 and Player B is blue colored as Z12.
I thought that it means: Red is favored, and the Z12 means the 12th best Zerg by tournament estimation?!
I get the raw meaning, but not exactly on what its based. Could someone tell me the exact meaning behind all that stuff ?!
Is it a fixed value, or does it evolve as the tournament goes on?!

the number is in reference to the players position on the map..
the number is in reference to the players position on the map..
T12 = terran twelve oclock
Z3 = zerg three oclock position
P6 = protoss 6 oclock position
and so on
Ah! thank you - sir!
But red is favored over blue, right? Or is it totally random / b/c of tournament brackets ?!

Do you have to buy premium to watch more than one free on demand stream from blizzcon? Or does it just not work right now? Any help would be apreciated. ^ ^
You mean ones that are only being done against Protoss and not against Zerg or Terran?
I recall seeing a chart that showed how each Protoss build measured up to every other Protoss build. I don't remember what thread that was in though, and it was quite some time ago
How do I play ZvZ without going mass Roach? All of my last Zerg games have been against a player who 1 base Roaches, then pushes at some random time. I can never defend, because Roaches wreck Spine Crawlers. When I do defend, they transition into Burrow Roach, which is ridiculously annoying, or they transition into Infestor/Roach, which shuts down anything. Any help is welcome.
Is there a way for you to ignore people inside the game? A lot of team games have annoying idiots that I want to ignore but I can't find the function (if it exists). Anyone know?

Sooo, I'll admit I'm just a lurker and I haven't played that many games, but I'd like to ask a serious question. Does anyone else think this most recent patch made Zerg a tad imba? I mean, I know they've been needing a buff for some time, but I think they pushed it a little far. For instance, practically every building gained a large percentage of health, and roaches got increased range. I noticed most of the complaints prior to the patch were centered around the reaper and early aggression in general, so I can understand the Terran nerf; but how does the massive hp buff keep that balanced? I think it was a matter of one or the other on the concept board, and masses of complaints pushed blizzard to just stick them both in. Not to say zerg is unstoppable, as I've seen plenty of losses for both good and bad zergs. However, I've noticed that the bigger names in the Zerg roster are now winning almost undefeated in tournies? That seems like a cry for some balance attention to me. I'm not sure how I'd fix it, but I think if this zerg winning trend continues, the Balance team's gonna take another look at the patch, and I'd expect to see a tiny nerf sometime soon.
Another example: Just heard Artosis in the GSL say "Only had 1 ZvZ last season", but I believe it's clear that we're going to be in for a huge rush of zerg players from now until any other race gets some sort of buff or zerg gets nerfed back a few inches. Anyway, just my thoughts.
mainly i played team games so far and there i am high diamond in all of them basically. sometimes i feel the urge to play some 1v1. atm i am at 1000 diamond with a decent winrate and still tons of bonuspool. all the time i faced and also beat a lot of people with like 600-800 more rating (mostly only have 1v1 rating) and the game says it was an even match, thus giving me around only 12+12=24 points, but i already lose like 15.
so basically this means to me, that its basically impossible for me like reaching 1800+, because my team rating influences my MMR way too much. so i get punished for playing team games, while others only play 1v1 and its easier for them to get a high ranking 1v1. doesnt sound fair to me tbh.

I think they said at Blizzcon, that MMR in one league influences only placement matches in others and nothing else. So it's your 1v1 MMR that fucks you up, don't ask me why, I have it even worse. When I got to diamond, I played people with twice as many points as me all the time, with maybe 50% win ratio. Then took a month break and started to play again now. I'm at 500 points and play people around 1500 all the time, what's even worse, it's usually even match (though skillwise it really is even . Even after 5 losses automatch gives me guy at 1600 with 10 win streak and says I'm slightly favored (-15 right there). Overally, I think it does good job at evaluating skill, but it's really tough to climb up this way, especially if you don't have a lot of time.
I usually go thor with a few marines, but it never seems to be enough. He has like 20 or so mutas, and when he uses magic box my thors do almost nothing. The obvious answer would be to build a bunch of marines, but then he makes 10 banelings and destroys my whole army.
Also, he forces me to place 15 turrets around my base if i wanna be safe, otherwise he just goes around picking off tech labs and such. I cant really move out because i know that either
a) My entire base dies to the mutas b) he wins in a big battle because i dont have enough AA.
It seems that the only really viable AA that terran has against mutalisks is thors, which isnt really that good when he knows how to magic box (any silver player and up). As i said making more than 10 marines in TvZ just seems like a bad idea. Also, it takes alot of time to make 5+ thors and 20+ marines, and by the time i finally feel safe, the zerg will be on 5 bases and have a bunch of banelings/zerglings
Yes, i know "dont let him get 20 mutas in the first place", but i'm just wondering how to deal with this.
I've searched in the strategy forum, but all i found was old threads (like 2-3 months old), which i dont really care about. Also, it was hard to find a thread specifically about mass muta, and not just the same old 6-10 muta harass that we all know and hate. But if anyone could link me to an up to date thread about this issue, i'd be happy :D

Seriously, 2-3 month old threads are worth your time. I'd suggest reading those anyways.
As for me a Terran player, by the time the Zerg gets Mutas, you should have already gotten a large marine/marauder force. (The marauders was to counter the banelings) And since it takes a while for Zerg to get air, you might as well have gotten a starport out as well and pumped out a few Vikings to help. They aren't the greatest at mass Mutas but they are more effective in numbers than a couple Thors. Then you also have a few turrets to also help you out.
SO what I would have done from the beginning: -The normal marine build. - You scout banelings, pump marauders. -Supposing he isn't doing a baneling bust, go and attack/harass with marauders in front. (This should be done under 10 mins) -Build a factory and try to expand. -You scout a spire, build a air turret or two and a starport and pump out vikings. (They aren't great counters for Mutas so only use them to hold them off while your marines or air turrets do the damage) -By this time, you should have the advantage and should attack/counter with your marauder/marine force and if you micro properly you should do massive damage if not kill off the zerg.
NEVER give Zerg the time to tech up, because next they may go Ultralisks or Broodlords which will be quite a nuisance for you and can cost you the game.
If they do get Ultras, then you may need to get another starport and pump banshees as well as your vikings. This is very time consuming and requires a lot more micro to pull off. If Broodlords, then youll also need another starport to pump mass vikings. Always scout and build the best counters based on what buildings you see.
NOTE: I didn't do the helion rush like most Terrans would do. For me I hate to tech up early and prefer a large bio army. It's more versatile that way and can stop/counter early zerg attacks. Thors are also a good counter if you build them quick to stop early harrass. But that where your offensive Bio army kicks in and wrecks their Vespian gas production to stop building more mutas. ALSO: You can take an scv with your attacking army and build air turrets in the middle of the map, so you can retreat your marauders to them to get those mutas off your back, then continue the push.
Can someone talk to ANYONE on Blizzard and tell them to remove the stupid hot key grid that appears in the middle of the UI. Fucking thing has led me to lose several games when i end up changing my hotkeys while microing.
hello everyone i am newbie n dunno if i am right here in this thread but: 1.) i wanna know if a probe wich farmed a mineral(has a blue stone in his/her or whatever`s mouth) and got send to gas, does it lost the mineral ??? shall i send it to nexus/main first? 2.) how long does the energyregeneration for ht, banshe etc take? do the have all the same regenerationtime and how long is it??? 3.) is there an official or unofficial source where i can inform myself about this stuff(mechanics, unitissues or propotions(range, attack etc...) without asking in a thread, like an encyclopedia???

thx for answers n sry for bad english
1. yes 2. roughly 1 second per 1 energy (but little faster cause of the fast game setting) 3. look right under the team liquid banner for a tab that says liquipedia ---> go to sc2 sec
One second, I just realized. Why does Blizzard care about balancing 2v2? 2v2 in BW was incredibly imbalanced favoring ZZ. Even with ZZ outlawed, a team had to have at least one zerg to be competitive.
Does anyone know the last music video played before the streams during the Ro64 for GSL? All I remember is that one of the girl had white hair, and that another one looked like a mix.
I hated it but now that it's gone I feel incomplete without it.
Hi everybody I'm new on the forum but i know the place for a long time (thanks to HD and Husky) and now i'm living in korea i'm going to be more involved in sc2 community =) I still don't know if that's the right place to put this message, but as i'm new i can't post new topic. Few about me first : Little player from France, fan of Huk and Ra, playing protoss but lovin' every races.
Ok here is my question now : how can i buy a korean version of the game? i'm trying to switch my country on battle.net but that's not working for now. I should have done that before coming here but heh, was too busy
So, has LT moved to korean servers (and korea right?), could you tell me how it worked for you?
Thanks a lot and maybe see you around in some pc bangs =)
My game likes to start typing Korean sometimes when i try to type. It does not revert back to English until i restart the game. Anyone know how to switch between the languages?
My computer is capable of displaying Korean characters, but it's currently set on English (EN).
I don't have a korean sc2 sorry. I'm using a SEA version with US access.
My keyboard is English/Chinese.
In-game, whenever you press Enter the chat will come up. On the right hand side of the chat tab there's an "A". Sometimes it's replaced with a korean symbol and I have no clue what I've pressed to change it to that.
Hey I was just wondering what is the artist and the title of the song that starts in the very beginning of Game 1 between Idra vs oGsGon in the round of 32in the GSL season 2.

It seemed to me, all Zerg buildings are sensitively quickly regenerate. If before, every 4-5 seconds was regenerating +1 HP, now it is about ~2.5 seconds. And in some games, noticed the damaged buildings sensitively quickly reach the green icons than before.
If my army has MMM + hellion and vikings. What is the best way to A-move the group so they all get there at the same time?
Here is what I am thinking: -M&M in ctrl group 1 medivacs on follow to a marauder -Hellions in ctrl group 2 on follow to a marauder -Vikings in ctrl group 3 on follow to a marauder -If I A-move group 1 will all units arrive at the same time? -If I A-move group 1 will all units attack or only M&M?

That's kind of a stupid question isn't it. Why should blizzard only focus on balancing 1v1? Imo it should be just as balanced in atleast 2v2. 3v3 and 4v4 on the other hand, seems impossible to balance.
For anyone that might be interested... I am top of my division platinum player on my server and I was willing to watch some replays and give some notes on how to improve if anyone wanted to send them to me. I played Terran for a wile but made a switch to Random about two months ago. Anyways if you're interested and want to send the replays to me, send them to SCendbringer@gmail.com
Ask anything you want answered about the video and I'll do my best to clear up anything you're confused about.
I'm new to SC2 (and RTS in general). And I was recommended this community from a bunch of other sites. Does anyone here want to help out a (very) new zerg/protoss player? Or point me in the right direction?
Where are some good places to find recent replays? I don't know of too many sites, and due to my limited internet access (don't have any at home right now ) I'd like to download lots of replays to watch when I don't have any internet but I'm not sure where to go. -_-

hit the hotkey or click the icon and it shows the range

Look around liquipedia. I don't think anyone has really written a good and free beginner guide yet, but liquipedia is a very general resource.

It's based off the Centrifugal Hooks upgrade. As soon as the upgrade is finished researching they will roll instead of walking. Has nothing to do with them gaining speed, just learning a new method of moving. You'll notice some (all?) units have visible indicators showing when they have an upgrade, zerglings get wings with speed upgrade, Hydralisk get spikes on their back for range and roaches get shiny backs for the burrow movement.

Hi all from a nibbie I ask for thinkings about these three tactics (expecially from high level terran players).. I lose training on SC2 and now i play again but i'm losing a lot of positions. I prepared three tactics, based on actual plays (after the patch protoss for example have changed a lot their early game).. what do you think about the following?
Norphius.158
TvZ marines + vikings (counter muta) 2 ports 2 reactors immediately and vikings a lot
TvP marauder + tank immediately (counter stalkers - zealots) 2rax e 2factory all with techlab next: A. banshee on probes and colossus ( if P do round ) B. vikings from starports with reactors ( if P do air, seek for void rays in tour base)
TvT mmm (marine marauder medivac) tanks on base (defense - sieged) try as son as you can drop on enemy workers
As a general rule of thumb, setting out with stats that you're going to do the entire game solely based on race is a bad idea, since most players you'll be playing against will play their game trying to counter what you do. If you're not being flexible, as soon as the zerg has banelings out (or baneling infestor), your mass marine push will be going nowhere fast.
I can't speak for the other two strategies, but as a full time zerg player, you can get some vikings to snipe overlords or do some back-base harassment (by turning them into assault mode and sniping drones), but vs mass mutas, vikings won't be a huge issue. Even worse, if I see mass viking and don't feel like trying to overpower you, I won't go spire tech at all.
If you're looking to get better, pick your worst matchup (Tv Z/P/T) and find replays or videos on them by pro players. If they won, identify their timing / positioning / build order / micro and figure out what's contributing to how their strat is so effective. After you have a good idea what's going on, try a strat that you've seen them use and keep refining it (or adapt it, if it doesn't suit your playstyle).
Thanks man! However yes i'm trying to set up some "basic openings" against each race, then during the game i change.. what you do against muta ? ghots sniping can be a solution? (they cost a lot)
Didn't want to make a whole new thread for this because I remember seeing one quite a while back but I was unable to find it on the search. I've had a few graphics glitches and I'm just not sure what's causing them. It causes certain textures to look COMPLETELY different and I'm just unsure if it's my graphics card (doesn't look like any regular graphics glitch I've encountered before) or it's just something that occasionally happens with starcraft.
