Second, imo it seems to me Blizzard nailed the music in terms of how each race should "feel" given their racial characteristics. Terran is redneck rockin' guitar solos, Zerg is creepy and ominous, and Protoss is heady and confident. However, it just so happens the theme that fits the shoot'em up, fast-paced, adrenaline-filled APM fest that is SC is, by far, Terran's rockin' tunes. Unfortunate. Blizzard should care less bout racial identity for music (so all races get music that actually gets their blood pumping) and more about racial identity for gameplay (Swarm? What swarm? I see only a modest gathering.)

I think blizzard should give infestors an ability to shut down the opponent music for 1 minute or so. And before you jump on me saying that it would be incredibly OP, it could be an upgrade (200/200/120?) or smth. A very good idea, but infestors come too late to counter Terran's early game threats of reaper/hellion harass. In order to make it more effective, we must give the ability to the Queen for 75/75 and 50 energy, researched at hatchery. However, there is a flaw in this spell: a Terran who happens to be a skilled musician will be able to mentally play the Terran theme IN HIS HEAD! That would be a waste of 75/75 for Zerg. Hence, not only should the spell stop the Terran music, it should REPLACE it with the Zerg music. Now ZvT will finally be balanced because Terran will have to listen to the SAME MUSIC as Zerg . Now do you think this is balanced enough, or should the spell also replace the Terran voice with the Zerg grandma voice? Trying not to make Zerg too OP here with this spell. Possible issue: this spell may affect ZvP too much. This brings up an urgent question: is the Zerg music/voice significantly worse than the Protoss music/voice? Btw this is a very hilarious thread.

A simple answer might be that the music in SC2 is just that much more OP than its BW counterpart, but listen again. When switching between the two songs you will inevitably notice that one is significantly better than the other. It may seem like common sense to assume that the better of the two is SC2's Terran theme, but if you look very carefully at the song titles you will notice that, in fact, BW's Terran theme is superior to SC2's by a considerable margin. Well, this simply doesn't seem to make sense! Does this disprove our beautifully elegant theory that Terran's music is the main factor in it being OP? Not necessarily. If you ask around the forums, "Which is the most mechanically demanding race in BW?" most will answer, "Terran." Ask those same people if Terran is mechanically demanding in SC2 and they're likely to laugh at you. It would seem that, in BW, Terran's music was necessarily superior so that players could meet the APM and attention requirements of their demanding race. In SC2, with the drastically reduced mechanical requirements, the psychological advantage traditionally given to Terran players is unnecessary and detrimental to racial balance. Thus, to balance SC2, either the mechanical requirements of Terran must be increased, or the psychological benefit of their music must be reduced. If the only goal is technical balance, Blizzard could instead decrease the mechanical requirements of both Zerg and Protoss, or increase the power of each race's music; however, these methods have significant drawbacks which make the original suggestions preferable. First, they are more complex, requiring a change to two races instead of one, and the effects of complex solutions are less predictable than those of simpler alternatives. Additionally, these methods favor a decrease in the skill required to play SC2. Part of what makes BW so competitively viable is its high skill ceiling, allowing ample room for players to improve and continually elevate the level at which the game is played. With a lower skill ceiling SC2 is more likely to stagnate and lose popularity as an e-sport. Right now, SC2 is a good e-sport. The massive battles and stunning visual effects are enough to keep today's fans watching. However, as the game matures, fans will come to demand more from professional gamers. As the average skill of players increases, pros will need to find new means of improvement to stay ahead of the curve and continue to impress viewers. As seen in the current Terran balance issues, if the skill ceiling is too low the game becomes less playable and less watchable. If Blizzard learns from this mistake and corrects the music-to-difficulty ratio SC2 has a chance of being a worthy successor to the most successful e-sport ever.
