It's actually an old reason, but I feel this is what is causing Zerg and Protoss players to lose in high level, competitive play.
Terrans music is overpowered.
As we all know, the Terran race has the best music. This is not arguable, as there are no conditions in which Protoss or Zerg music is better. Yes, Marauders are overpowered, but in the right circumstances a Stalker is better for anti-air. Yes, Reapers are overpowered, but after about 10 minutes into the game they stop being OP. However, at every point of the game, no matter what, Terrans music is overpowered.
Lets review the details: + Show Spoiler +
This is the Terran music. Listen to it as you read the thread. Does it get you pumped? Does it make you feel like grabbing a flamethrower, smoking a cigar and frying everything that moves around you? Yes, it does. Now that you are reading while listening to music, you cannot help but get your adrenaline pumping, and feel that urge to own noobs.
It is clear that this music makes you a better player. Why do you think Terrans can play so effectively with such a low APM? It is because the music makes their units better. Pure and simple.
Here we have a Zerg player admitting the profound true reason why he is losing his games: + Show Spoiler +On September 01 2010 07:04 monitor wrote: That's why I've been losing my games!! The Zerg music is making my units weaker, and distracting me from my over 9000 APM.
In comparison, the Zerg music is slow, low key, and positively dank. There are no impressive guitar solos. There are no adrenaline pumping beats. This kind of music forces the Zerg player to play reactively and think inside the box. They are not playing aggressively because the music is not telling them to play aggressive.
The Protoss music is very much holier than thou, and extremely haughty. And it too is slow. This sort of music compels a player to do some specific thing that they think is so smart that it alone will win them the game. This is why we see Protoss players doing so many proxy's, and so many sneaky bits ingrained into their tech tree. Is it because their race is designed to work this way? No. It is because of the music.
I would like to submit to Team Liquid, that clearly, Terrans music needs a nerf. Every time I hear it I have an impulsive desire to put on cowboy boots, get my six shooter, and fly through the stars with nothing but a brown coat and a handful of Chinese curse words to my name.
Clearly this is a problem that Blizzard desperately needs to address.
Thank you for your time.
PS:
As pointed out by SubtleArt, the in-game UI voice is also the best for Terran, and this exacerbates the problem. If you play Zerg, your announcer is a grandma. If you play Protoss, your announcer is some kind of priest. If you play Terran, your announcer is a robot babe. That's right. A robot babe.
The combination of badass music and robot babe is clearly unstoppable.

hohoho a challenger appears..
Just when I thought the OP's irrefutable analysis was enough to create a proper thread captain statistics comes in with this obviously thought out point to shut this thread down for good.
What will happen next?
Also I want to point out that this has NEVER happened on TeamLiquid before, so I will subscribe to this thread and add it to my feed so I don't forget to check back for updates.
...making popcorn too, who's in?

Aww, and I thought I could abuse this for at least a little longer! Cat's out of the bag though With this realization the next nerfs will decimate the Terran race.
|
I love Terran's music. I don't even notice the other races...
|
Very true OP :D/ Terran music is pretty awesome, reminds me of a mix between Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for some reason, lol.
Oh and don't forget, the reason why Zerg is the crappiest race is because of how terrible the voice acting is. Makes me want to do the opposite of what the narrator says -_-. Her: "You require more meeeeneraaaaaaaaaallllzzzzzzzzzzzzz" Me: "NO!!!! GTFO OF MY GAME!!!"

When I saw the title to the thread, I was prepared for something stupid. I didn't think that it would open my eyes to the real source of all the racial imbalance. Thank you for enlightening me.

I actually have to agree with OP, the music is just OP.
Seriously, what are the we (zerg) supposed to do?
|
lol, i think maybe only 3 people questioned the seriousness of this thread...
read it, love it

This is obviously the source of all the problems. Simply nerf Terran's music and all the imbalance issues are gone. All the lesser problems stem from this huge overarching issue.
|
That's why I've been losing my games!! The Zerg music is making my units weaker, and distracting me from my over 9000 APM.

this thread should be stickied.

The Zerg and Protoss music are fine, but clearly they've put more effort in the Terran theme. It is really great.
|
Instead of a terran music nerf, i propose a buff to both zerg and protoss music!
In the end, i wholeheartedly agree with the OP. But honestly, I like the Zerg music, but it just seems like its suppressed... like its trying to get up off its feet, but falls asleep again. There's definitely room for some sick guitar solos in the Zerg theme that would be positively awesome.
