Return of tha Hydra.
Lee Jae Dong proved that a focus on mechanics and execution could solve problems in the StarCraft game strategy.

Tank fix was needed. But nerfing lots and ultras? Blizz confuse me. Somtimes they dont really seem to have a grasp of the metagame. Like when they stated that neural parasite was too powerfull against ultras... like you ever see ultras in zvz.

And stating that the ultra is too powerful for its cost? And that zealot rush is too powerful? Damn, were do you get your info. Bronze league?

I highly doubt the 5 secs build time will change much when it comes to the 5 rax reaper build though.

Gah, this is what you get when they balance across the board instead of balancing at top tier.

I'm still hoping for some changes to early game Z scouting.

Yes seriously. 7 pool is going to be x10 more broken now than it was before. It was already hard as all hell to stop on Steppes without 10gating, now 10gate will be mandatory to be safe from lings. Hell, even then I don't know if you'll be able to get the zeal on time.

I'm 99% sure you cannot get a Zealot on time on a map like Steppes now even with a 10 gate.

Anyone else still think DO will still suck beyond belief?

You actually can't get it it out against an 8 pool. One of the owners of Green Forest Cafe and I were watching him test it, the timing of the 10 gate was perfect, and his 8 pool was perfect, the lings would get in side about 3 seconds before the zealot is chrono boosted out.

Pretty good changes, except for Protoss. The race needs a buff, if zealots are being nerfed.

Oh, but I really don't understand the battlecruiser nerf. They do a lot of damage, sure, but they're just so easily kited by units that it doesn't matter.

BCs are actually ridiculously strong supported by vikings lategame against zerg, hydras melt to them, corruptors are slightly more cost effective against them, but once the BCs die, they are hard to use except for broodlords, but that basically means that the zerg player is overly committed to this tech against BCs which can actually come out pretty quickly. That being said, this is a pretty substantial nerf.

A BC/Viking army of about 150 population will completely and totally decimate any number of corrupters and hydras from a Zerg - especially hydras - the nerf is very much needed.

Forget about 10 pool, its gonna be 6/7 pool cheese rushes on every 2 player map that has a Z v P until Blizz realizes how bad the Zealot change was. I mean fuck they buffed gates and zealots in the beta patch for this very reason, Zerg was cheesing P, so now a couple months after retail they decided that's not a problem anymore for P? Just plain weird.

I forgot to mention that I do like the zealot change for PvP since it will hopefully reduce the effectiveness of a 2-gate rush. However, I think it will make PvZ pretty damn difficult for any zerg players who use early aggression.

Maybe we'll even see Idra 7-pooling vs. Protoss players on Steppes in tourneys, haha.

"Zealot rushes are currently too powerful at various skill levels" ? Who gives a rats ass if a silver level player can't deal with a zealot rush? I'm zerg and never really had that big of a problem stoping zealot rushs. Hell I dont see pro matchs where protoss players are winning massive amounts of games with proxy zealot rushs too. I can't say I understand that change to much. The siege tank change seems cool. Maybe now zerglings and zealots could be useful vs them. I like most of the other changes as well from the look of things.
I've seen comments that Zealot rushes are too strong vs Zerg at the highest level from players like Idra. Not sure if I agree with that though after watching as many korean reps as I can get my hands on (which is more than you would think). It looks perfectly playable and Zerg has a good winrate.

This really fucks with PvP though, Zealot based builds (like my Zealot/Sentry which I blatantly stole from naz) are going to be a lot less effective

Only very few players know how to abuse the 2gate perfectly and to transition smoothly into non stop pressure. Most protosses vary their play way too much for their own good. They should just open 2gate regardless.

Only player in Europe I find that does the 2gate properly is Socke. And in America KiwiKaki. They perform well over their skill level just based on having perfected every aspect of their 2gate play. Players like whitera practice other crap too much to know the ins and outs of the 2gate.

I'm like 0-20 vs socke and 2-10 vs Kiwi post release. I can probably count the games that went to late game on an even footing on one hand out of those ~30.

The skill difference between any 2 players at the top shouldn't ever be that big for it to be so impossible to counter such a simple strategy and its transitions...

Damn those zealots were fine, why the hell increase their build time? at last I don't have to abuse the TvZ match up that much
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

I would much prefer to see some Zerg buff.

This is a common misconception. If they buff zerg to handle terran better, and to handle early game 2 gate proxy zealot rushes, then zvp is in zergs favor by far, and zvt is balanced.

It's possible to buff things that will affect ZvT more than ZvP. Changes don't affect all matches 100% equally. For instance, a Roach buff would (at least, before this patch) have had a bigger effect on ZvT than ZvP, because Roaches were already very prevalent in ZvT and not very in ZvP. I'm not saying that a Roach buff would be the way to fix it, just that a Zerg buff would not nessecarily do that.
Man, do I not keep this up to date, or what?

I kinda wanna test these out now, didn't they accidentally release some of the changes, e.g. the zealot time in one of the beta patches? I wonder if these changes will actually affect the amount of cheese, since that seems to be their aim...

The zealot nerf worries me in PvZ. It's literally impossible in some maps to get a zealot out quick enough to fend off early lings. This nerf only makes it much worse.

Maybe you should apply for a job at Blizzard. the only thing I can deduce from your statement is that you think the only way to balance the game is through buffs? So over time, every unit continuously gets more and more powerful, never nerfed. What will the game be like 5 years from now, after there's been 50+ patches? Will marines be doing 100 damage?

Blizzard being Blizzard unfortunately, it's not the fact that siege tanks hit REALLY hard, it's the fact that you can make a line of them, and the corresponding splash damage plus them all firing at the same time destroys units. And also, what set of light, unarmored units do Zerg have to "perform better against siege tanks"? The Zergling?

Bunker build time needs to be 40 seconds IMO.

This will affect it in a way that one round from a siege tank will kill it's directly hit target but not all the lings next to it as well.

All in all I digg this patch. I actually think the changes made to zealots and battlecruisers wasnt necessary but maybe that's just me and the game is suffering as it is now(not talking about 1v1 pro's only).

They nerfed those tanks hard. Now they are another worthless unit. unsieged they do 15 damage. Sieged they do 35+15 vs armoured. Great 50 damage vs roach which has 125 hp. Great I can now one shot zerglings, and nothing else. If they kept it at 50 it wouldn't make that much of a difference. What happened to using immortals to hard counter tanks. Or maybe chargelots would be a good unit too. I'm just a little shocked is all. I can still use tanks, they just won't be as effective as they were before.. bye tanks. I'll miss you.
I have an announcement to make, "Moo!" That is all.

Battlecruisers are already worthless, and they're being nerfed? The only counter Terran has to bling and hydras is being removed? I hope you're happy zerg, now you can just roach+hydra and 1a2a3a to victory.

Also protoss are already horribly behind, and they have a huge increase in warp in time? How will they even compete now?
