Why do people idolize someone who would be the first to curse your mother in person over your Starcraft racial selection. If someone did that to my face in person, I'd probably resort to violence. Maybe he is this so called "demi-god" in Starcraft but he's almost less than human in person due to his poor etiquette.
Its an honest question. Why do people respect someone who gives no respect to others. No respect to the people who make this community possible (tournament organizers) and no respect to the players that make up the competition that he excels at. I like idra because he doesn't bend or heed to your delicate sensibilities of manners. Get over this "etiquette" nonsense. Shit talk is part of ANY game. If you can't handle it, or cry about seeing it, go play another game. We all play a game. Idra is really good at this game. His gameplay does the talking, everything past that is trivial - except to people like you who love to make a mountain out of a molehill. This is ironic. I just state my opinion about a player, which is actually no big deal and my opinions about how people should treat other people, also no big deal. However, by quoting me and then trying to somehow justify IdrA's childish behavior (comon' ... the guy is a friggen adult, act like one) you are the person that is making my opinion of IdrA (a molehill) into a mountain (a quest to somehow make the entire community be polite and curtious?) I'm allowed to say my mind and opinion in a sensible manner, kthx. If I were to start talking on these forums like idra does to other people, I might find a fast ban ticket. Its almost a double standard. Why is his behavior acceptable? Just because its consistent? Just because he's been here longer? Why? You're allowed to state your opinion, I don't have to like it and I don't have to agree with it. You can talk however you want on these forums, no one is stopping you, however people will have the right to criticize you if they don't like it. Don't throw some red herring "oh hai guyz I'm just trying to make the entire community polite and curtious..." then contradict yourself by saying he is "almost less than human". If you don't like him, don't like him. That's fine. Just realize everyone doesn't think the same way as you. Part of what makes any community a good one is diversity within members and diversity of thought. Who threw a red herring? Maybe you should read... anyways.. if you want a community full of shit-talking babies I'd be more than happy to talk massive amounts of shit whenever I face you in ladder. Are you "top diamond?" lewl... then maybe you'll see how it feels to get shit talked etc. Nobody really appreciates it. Its fun to watch until you're the victim of unprofessionalism at a professional level. Great example is Silver. Pretty good player that doesn't get the respect he deserves for pwning the shit out of IdrA, just b/c of the race he plays. Reap what you sew. Go ahead and be "diverse" (somehow acting like a raging 16 year old baby is diversity) and see how far you get. All my money that you won't make it past me, let alone get to Idra's level of play. Idra has skill, but please, he needs to learn some social skills.
Social skills are overrated, as shown by IdrA, also Silver got the respect he deserved from the community.

This is the best thread of the month.

To a degree, I don't mind when people lack social skills, I just think it's idiotic to fall into the trap of skill = authority. If you are good at SC2, then you are good at playing SC2. That doesn't make you any more of an authority when it comes to anything besides the game. It more than likely means you have spent a very long time playing the game.
I get a feeling that people look up to IdrA, and other players to some degree, as if they have more rights or more to say than others because they're better in the game. If IdrA, or anyone else, tell other people to fuck off, act in bad manner, etc., then it matters exactly zero what level of skill they are at. The fact that they are good in the game only grants them authority when it comes to discussing the actual game. Now, I'm not saying IdrA does that every game or that I don't think he's a great player, I'm just making a general statement about people's attitudes towards pro players.

Sinatra, let me remind you of my question.

This is pretty much what I am talking about. Every time I talk about Idra's attitude, I make sure I mention his skill, however, that skill shouldn't enable him to say whatever the fuck he wants to whomever the fuck he wants.
Skill is not a license to whine. Imagine if every single pro player started whining after every single 2nd place they received in a tournament. There would be at least 1 whiner every single tournament. We are already pretty lucky we don't have to see his attitude in every tournament. We don't need moer Idras...(attitude wise).

Literacy is an important thing xtfftc. Maybe you shouldn't put words in my mouth. I never said Idra said anything of the sort. I said he would be "The first to curse your mother in person over your Starcraft racial selection". Its a figure of speech, meaning, he'd be the first person to come up with some sort of inappropriate insult, in person, after losing to some sort of cheese from you.
Then I go onto say, that I would probably punch him in the face (resort to violence), if someone made such inappropriate comments to me in person. The internet sucks and its a big place and you can't get mad for every single person that talks shit. However, there aren't that many "pro/top level" Starcraft 2 players out there and inevitably we will all run into each other in person. A little manner/respect/social skills would be nice when people eventually run into each other. What if Silver is the next Bisu and ends up in Korea? How are those two going to act in person after Idra bmed the shit out of him? I for one wouldn't even hang out with the crowd that Idra hung out with, let alone talk to him.
Could you imagine the SC1 community being as big as it was if every single person was like Idra? It wouldn't even exist. That community existed because people met other people at LANs, got together, had a great time, started producing content together, etc. People were friendly to each other.
You think you could have a beer with someone if you got beat by them in a competition? Tell you what. Next time you see Idra lose in life. Look at the way he shakes his opponent's hand and you be the judge of whether it was sincere. Hint: Its not sincere if you stand on one leg with your entire body extended just to reach the handshake.

Wow get over it. The point is every single person isn't like idra. What would the community be like if every single person was like you? It would suck. Even if you think you're the most awesome, rad, gnarly dude out there, it would still suck. Why? Because diversity is what makes a good community. Why do you get to dictate the morals and values of a community? I don't really see the point you're trying to make. Then attacking xtffc - you seem almost as bad mannered as what you abhor about idra. I'm not sure what to make of your body language rant, but to me a handshake is a handshake.

lol... I'm not sure why you keep thinking I'm trying to dictate anything. I didn't even say anything about changing the community. All I commented on was a specific player and his attitude and how its immature and not acceptable to act that way for the rest of us (but he gets away with it).

I wasn't trying to make a point in the first place, but some how you started flaming me for 'making mountains out of molehills' when that wasn't even the case.
I'm just defending myself against your horrible arguments, horrible posts, putting words in my mouth and hypocrisy .

You seem really angry and have an extremely passive-aggressive manner (could be seen as bm). You're the one contradicting yourself and getting seemingly upset when people don't share your point of view. All the "Facts" you have listed are opinions. There is a difference. A fact would be "Idra said xxxx during a game, here's a replay to show it" or "I have brown hair" an opinion is "Idra said xxxx, therefore I think he has a bad attitude" or "I think all people with brown hair are geniuses".
You're "NOT Fact" sentence doesn't make sense so I'm not sure how to respond.
You tell xtffc "Literacy is important" which could be seen by some as an attack, or just a douchey way to start a response, depending on the person seeing it. You seem to be ignoring the facts and questions brought up by your other posts and just digging a deeper and deeper hole. Then you close your post with an ad hominem toward me, while at the same time dismissing my "argumentative experience". Ironic indeed.

So I'm passive-aggressive AND really angry at the same time? Nice... You are clearly new to this whole forum business. Good luck with that.
Also, my facts are actually facts. Are you saying Idra having a bad attitude is just an opinion? I'm pretty sure its a well known fact...
Finally, what hole am I digging exactly? I'm not the one digging here lol. I'm responding to YOUR posts.

Comprehension is important rS.Sinatra. Being angry and passive-aggressive aren't mutually exclusive.
edit: beef is right, this is better for pm.

Sinatra, you're getting really obnoxious. Do you REALLY need to have the last word? Backache nailed it anyway. Yes IdrA is kinda bm, everyone knows and acknowledges that, but he brings diversity to the scene and that's why he's an interesting character. Having a throng of progamers who never ever step outside the boundaries to say how they feel about the game is definitely very professionnal, but it's also very boring. A splash of drama keeps things interesting.

Yeah hitler was polite, we wouldnt want that!... or you can ignore that comparison. I became an honest to god idra fan during the razer TSL, and my fanboy love shall never die.

You don't have to be BM to say what is on your mind. I just stated my opinion and now some kid with 5 posts wants to start a flame war, not exactly me being obnoxious if I'm just trying to defend myself.
I don't need to have the last word, but if someone keeps putting words in my mouth and spewing bullshit in order to coax a response, I'll respond by belittling their efforts.
I'm all for diversity, I'm not for immaturity.
