Starcraft is most like competitive miniature golf imo. To be fair, BW had pro level 2v2s for a huge chunk of its history. I'm still sad they got axed, actually, they were a refreshing break from the usual suspects owning everything. It allowed a few teams to do a lot better in Proleague. That's also why I prefer the non-Winner's league team format; it encourages depth within teams. That said, clan wars are definitely team games and SC2 has those in spades. GSTL, GCPL, and SCL are all team-based. I don't understand why NASL is so unwilling to make exceptions for non-team players, though, since they often have their own cadre of fans. There will always be the issue of people switching clans in the midst of the NASL season that could "overload" one part of the bracket, too.

And they're already exceptions to the rule such as whitera Team membership is a professional credential that helps minimize risk to the business. Obv they can't have some 17 year old sleeping in when they go to studio or have an unreliable player participate for the same reason. To some extent, teams mitigate this risk. EDIT: I think that's the only reason really; or that was what I took from Russ's statements

Why can't anyone put up 250 bucks and play? Not to mention its not like teams just get to say ok I wanna select these 5 to play in the league and voila there they are. They're still gonna have a selection process. Sucks for white-ra though, and a very select few other cases where players have worked out a good deal with a sponsor and decided to play solo. I don't understand the purpose of the rule but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume there is one other than "nba players don't get to play without belonging to a team lolol".

"nba players don't get to play without belonging to a team lolol". I feel if Sundance used this as a reason to justify including only team-members in his MLG touraments Geoff would be all over him.

The reason why they are so adamant about having teams is because they are following the model of professional sports in North America, which is what they want to imitate. The problem is prosports in NA are all team sports Agree 100%. As a fan of the UFC, it was fun to see how they took a relatively niche sport and blew it out of the water. It's unbelievably popular now. What they DIDN'T do was try to force teams in a 1v1 sport. They have groups, certain pros all train at the same gym for instance, and this could be equivalent to "teams" in SC2. Anyway I don't feel like getting into too much detail, but I just want to suggest that following Dana White's UFC model could be a better recipe for success, whereas the guy on the podcast seemed stuck on the NBA/NFL model.
