First of all I'd like to say that I really like the show.
About the latest SotG, I really liked the way they handled the question from JP, that I feel was first meant as yet another stab, that noobs should be directed to Husky, HD and TotalBisbuit. I think it's a great idea! I started like that in the beta where Husky, HD and TB were the first casters that I watched. They are really great for new players who don't care at first about the analytical side of the game and who are only interested in the battles. They give you basic knowledge about the game, they introduce you to all the major players and they also plug guys like Day9 and the GSL once in a while without being asked to do so (which they really should do more as it might make the elitist snobs dislike them less). They are great for the community!
Since I got more interested in actually becoming good at the game I started watching Day9, Artosis and the GSL and after a while I found the casts of Husky, HD and TB to be lacking. I have sorta moved on. But where other people become elitist when they move on from those guys, I really appreciate that they got me hooked to this game to start with and I can see and appreciate their importance to the community.
But I have a slight gripe with JP and the way he pokes fun at Husky, HD and TB. The times I have watched him cast at the MLG it seems to me that he himself lacks a bit in the analytical side of things. With him usually doing the play-by-play and Day9 doing the analysis. Much like the way Tastosis works. I find that very ironic. DJWheat is the in the same boat. Why are they not criticized for their lack of knowledge? For instance I distinctly remember a Day9 daily with a certain DJWheat being coached and him lacking fundamental and basic knowledge about the game. So please don't be too hard on the trio JP, cause you and DJWheat are in the same boat with them when it comes to lack of knowledge about the game.
Also I don't know what league JP is in currently (I remember him being in diamond from the Day9 daily), but unless he is also in masters and is ranked above HD, I really don't think he should be participating in criticizing especially him for lack of knowledge. xD

Don't really understand the arguments over teams, as in any sport there are set limits. Those are the rules they set forth. The onus is on the team to send in their best. Why does the tournament have to decide that for them. If the team needs to have a play-off then so be it. If the team needs to set up a heavy terran or zerg push then so be it. Some teams are not as stacked as these other teams due to finical or just smaller. This actually helps smaller teams from getting bombarded by an eight member team stacking and wiping out another five man team.

anyone else get the feeling that tyler is by far the smartest person on sotg?

Right or wrong he's killing his own play by thinking that the game is "imbalanced". Hilarious and sad to see at the same time. If he's right it isnt crying and whether he said anything or not it doesnt kill his or anyone else's play.

Tyler is my favorite player, even though I'm a zerg. He doesn't talk much on sotg, but whenever he does, it's either very informative or it's very funny. I love his "2 kool 4 skool" attitude.

He certainly seems like it at times. I think it's because he thinks a lot before opening his mouth, which is a good thing.
Though I wouldn't say he's by far more intelligent than day9. Day9's goofiness can make him seem normal, but I've always gotten the impression he is incredibly intelligent. I'd say both are really smart.

actually yeah that's true. i forgot about day9. he's supposed to be a main host although I kind of feel like day9 is more of a guest on the show which is why I didn't think of him at first.
I just really like how tyler doesn't seem to allow emotion to control his viewpoints and is level headed which is really awesome.

It's killing his play by thinking it's not worth practicing :/ but I love his balance suggestions about the marine and hydra. Making them tier 1 and adjusting their cost accordingly would be oh so wonderful :[
Even if you think the game sucks and is imbalanced there is still a lot to work on in the mean time. Just simple mechanics like larva injects and spreading creep as efficiently as possible which even top top zerg's still don't keep on top of.

Nice episode. Was great to finally hear Inc. telling Idra to chill a little with the BM and whining.
Keep up the good work!

well yea, i mean why would u try to take the analysis role, when Day9 can do it. JP does have a better game knowledge than husky or TB because JP is a masters level player, where as TB is in silver and husky is in gold/plat.
HD on the other hand gets more shit that he should in my opinion. i generally dont like his casting, but he works really hard to play well and get the game knowledge. He even competed in the last MLG

A. "No. I'll be completely honest." I don't like bashing casters… constructive criticism is a very potent weapon. good for growth. In terms of production values… For hype and prize pool the production values were "very very poor" audio sync is easy to fix. I do it every day. It took away a lot of the drama. Bliz should address the shared viewing issue. replay-spectator sharing should be part of the game. I'm going to cut in from all the drama and just as, what exactly does he mean with the, "Bliz should address the shared viewing issue. replay-spectator sharing should be part of the game." part? I have an idea floating around in my head about what the meaning of it was, but I'd rather get told and called a complete idiot. My self esteem is rather low. Please, love me.
there are almost always sync issues when people try to dual commentary off of replays
TB wants Blizzard to implement shared replay viewing where people can join a lobby but instead of starting up a game, they start up a replay to watch together.

I love tyler, but you are gonna have a hard time in life if you view intelligence as a number that can be higher or lower than someone else's. You cannot accurately measure intelligence, and it's just offensive to try.
All the members of the state of the game podcast are smart, and that's about all there is to say about it.

I think he means portrayed intelligence and to an extent I disagree because although he sounds intelligence, everyone else were more entertaining and interesting to listen to.
Neither are a bad thing.

Husky is diamond and he mostly plays team games it seems. So we can't really estimate how good he is cause he doesn't play 1v1s. But yes JP is more knowledgeable than Husky and I'd say almost every other caster is more knowledgeable than TB lol. That wasn't really my point. JP doesn't know enough about the game to analyse like Day9 does, it's the same with HD. So he is not in a position to poke fun at other casters imo. And I really don't like that he's poking fun at them at all even if he knew everything about the game, as he should realise how important they are. I very much like Diggity's approach where he really dislikes hating on other casters. It's immature. They shouldn't get any shit at all just because they aren't as knowledgeable as a Day9 or an Artosis.
But if JP really really wants to continue poking fun at Husky and TB for lack of knowledge, then he should do the same with DJWheat.

hey so i don't want to go through the last 20 pages to find out how incontrol pissed off everyone this time or who now hates incontrol. Can someone jsut give me the short version and i'll jump into the conversation :D.
I'm glad that incontrol actually said "How will i lose to Terran now" because i am not entirely happy with the patch notes as far as TvP goes. ITS needed tvz but.
Also... Who else is more deserving to be the face of NASL? No1!
|
Who cares if incontrol is professional or not. It's the State of the Game not a business conference.
But I do wish Incontrol would lighten up just a bit with the caster mockery. Even if it's all meant for humor, nobody likes being made fun of. I just feel like its in bad taste to single out people to make fun of them.
If Incontrol were to make fun of Europeans, I'm fine with that. But for Incontrol to single out TotalBiscuit on the past 3 State of the Games, that's kind of dickish.

Pretty sure Tyler went to Duke undergrad. That generally doesn't happen unless you've got a decent head on your shoulders
