How is it so difficult to understand that they try and talk about what they know. As JP and Dan were working there & Nony is in a US timezone (and had already been through a fuck ton of drama when he explained why he would be focusing on watching MLGa rather than dreamhack) it turns out that the pillars had more to say about MLG. OF course this is going to be the case.
I really dont understand why people are so upset. Is their world really made so much worse by the pillars/the name of the a podcast. Go for a walk ffs.

The idiocy and pure bullshit this community feeds its personalities makes people want to quit on a daily basis. Lay off the fucking kool-aid and think for yourself rather then joining the mob, getting pitchforks, and making people / tournaments / organizations drop all interactivity on social media. Hey JP, not sure if you will see this amongst the maelstrom that is the SotG thread on TL but I feel like I need to speak up. I am worried that what I will say may come off as fandom or bias in itself, but I feel like now is the time to say it. State of the Game is an amazing production. You have been the driving force behind what is now far and above the most revered and respected show for Starcraft 2 and its mere existence is a huge asset to our community. The wealth of knowledge which appears on the show on a weekly basis is astonishing. This is an asset of the community which you have chosen to share, and worked damn hard to present (free of charge) to everyone. What you have done is amazingly admirable and I personally hope you continue to do so for a long time. The only problem that comes from any of this is a tiny portion of the community who are toxic. Their seeming hatred for what someone has put hundreds of hours of work into is completely unacceptable. The flip side of having such a vibrant and vocal community is that they can turn very quickly. I wish I had more insight into the 'pitchforks' mentality and how it worked as this may give some solution for how to stop its very negative and destructive force in the community. However, how to deal with this is a genuine problem which I don't think there is a solution to right now beyond ignoring it. There is something actually useful behind the phrases 'don't feed the trolls' and 'haters gonna hate' which is applicable here. Speaking to the particular episode in question here: Anyone who criticises the fact that Sundance couldn't give full answers to incontrol's questions clearly has no idea how the world works. Especially in the business world, not everything can be made public. It might be because of a personal reason from someone involved, it might be that the full disclosure must have to wait until a later date. I don't even want to shit on incontrol for asking these questions, even though he most likely knew that Sundance would be unable to answer. In fact, it is good that he asked the questions. There is no necessity that MLG simply saying 'exclusive' would be in any way a bad thing. From the sounds of it, Sundance has a position of responsibility when it comes to KEPSA players playing abroad. Perhaps there might be too much power in one person's hands with this. However, if he has already made an arrangement for getting KESPA players to be involved in foreign events, he might actually be the direct contact with KESPA which the foreign scene needs with the BW pros coming. People need to trust how this goes. Based on what has been announced so far, there is precisely no reason why any of this is a bad thing. I can understand that the community may mistrust KESPA's involvement and see Sundance as the evil figurehead of the business world, but there is nothing to fear about the situation as it is. I would be more than happy to reconsider my position trusting this situation as soon as any party involved does something which breaks that trust. I just don't want to see anyone shit to such an extent without any actual reason to. TL:DR State of the Game is extremely valuable to the community and people shitting on JP and Sundance is a SERIOUS problem. If they can't release any real info they shouldn't be on the show. This is why people are upset, its just sundance advertising it's not even a show. I found it informative, if you didn't then its understandable. But to pretty much crap on JP for it is pathetic. If you had a problem with a show then its best to voice your opinion in a respectable manner, not just flame him like an 8 year old. He does a ton for the community and even if he didnt still deserves to be respected as a person. You didn't like the show, I did. Neither one of us is wrong and neither one of us should be disrespectful towards a guy who gave us FREE content. I personally haven't said anything ill about JP other than he is acting like a self entitled ass with his rant. I don't agree with the show being someplace for sundance to advertise and didn't watch it and until JP made his melodramatic post I kept it to myself. It's the internet, if you can't handle criticism from angry people you should probably not be part of a large internet community. Especially when it's your job.
Self-entitled? That doesn't even make any sense, grammatically or semantically. JP's response does not reflect entitlement, but an issue with self-control, and personally, I'm going to err on the side of forgiving him because he actually does some good for the community, and you can't expect people to be perfect. Anyone who's been on the internet for a decent length knows how infuriating it can get.

You should never post again, its in everyones best interest. Since you posted in a public forum then I assume you will take no issue with my honest opinion. You're under the impression that SOTG is entirely a privilege and that the viewers are irrelevant. And you're getting far too emotionally invested in this. This all goes both ways. People do not like being blatantly advertised to. People also do, in fact, have the option to throw out constructive criticism to SOTG, and vote with their viewership. Yes and I acknowledged that constructive criticism is a good thing with a prior poster who did not like the show. We had a respectable discourse about the episode. I have no problem with people who did not like the show. My issue is with jerks who don't know how to respect people who do a lot for the community at no cost. I also have stated in this very thread that fans have a right to let their opinions on guests and talking points be known. They don't however have the right to be ignorant and flame people who are only trying to give out content for free. A lot of this wasn't constructive. Also you're under the impression that this was an advertisement. Is it possible that JP thought people may care about this topic? I did, you and I do not speak for everyone. It was a free show with information pertaining to SC2, wheres the problem? It seems some people on TL don't know the difference between constructive and deconstructive criticism.

It was not really a "State of the Game" show, since there was only 1 of the 4 pillars of the show present, and it was more of an interview with Sundance. I understand that exclusivity and getting the first chance to talk to Sundance since the big news was expected to drive lots of viewers to the show, but it needs to still be in the spirit of the actual show and concept. .
Then call it "An interview with Sundance" in your head and move on with your life. It's not worth the trouble trying to redefine something that someone else created.
Ultimately it's JP's show. He could open the stream, fart on the mic, close it, upload it to YouTube and it would still be SotG #Xty X featuring M3than3, The New Fifth Pillar. It would be shitty and terrible, but it would still be SotG.
Ultimately, the show is whatever he wants it to be. But being realistic, I don't think this instance departed at all from the concept of the show.
The show is "State of the Game" in which the term "The Game" has grown to encompass not only Starcraft 2, but also the esports climate surrounding it. Thus, the announcement of MLG and Kespa's partnership, is a huge shift in "The State of the Game". So, as a result, he decided to interview the major movers and shakers that are changing "The State of the Game". As this was the main focus of the show, it's not surprising this episode was considered a "State of the Game" podcast.
Regardless of what you think it should be called, it was free, impromptu content that he took upon himself to do during his work time, about huge news in the SC2 scene. No harm is done in not watching, the only investment you're making is time.
JP understands that 4 years ago, if someone told TL that several major BW pros were coming to America to play at a live event, the community would be in awe. He saw the lukewarm reaction the community was having to the "exclusivity" and decided that since he had a fleeting moment where the relevant parties were available, he'd do a show to address the concerns promptly.
That's a pretty noble effort, especially since he could've easily put it off until a later date, until which time this thread would've been full of people moaning "PLEASE DO SOTG NAO".
If you didn't like this episode, that's OK. Just wait until next week when he's able to do a full show.
But using words like "false advertising", assuming you're owed something, and carrying an attitude of feeling like you expected something else, when the parameters of this episode were clearly stated on the twitter announcement, is a bit over the line.

If you want them to do it your way so badly make your own damn show, and that goes for everyone on here that treats these guys like shit and only speak up when they have problems or want to bash them.
They at least deserve some common courtesy for giving the community a free show that they don't profit off of one bit
With that being said, thanks for going out of your way to give us some clarification on the big news! Im sure plenty of people appreciated it unfortunately the vocal minority is out in full force like always!

I understand you point, and yes people need to be, at least to a point, thick skinned against criticism. But there is no way of knowing exactly what JP has heard in terms of criticism. Sure this thread is a good way of showing what is probably the majority, but only JP knows the full extent of the criticism that he saw in order to make the post that he did. With this in mind, it is not yours, or anyone else's place to say that JP should have to put up with everything that goes in his direction. I'm not saying don't criticise if you don't like something about it. I'm just saying, give constructive and considered criticism. Imagine you are also the person you are criticising and mediate between what you want to say, and the way in which it would actually be useful for the other person to hear.
It is a serious problem because there are parts of the community that say things without any thought or consideration for anyone else involved. JP has put a huge amount of work into SotG, and if people just want to shit all over it in a very unconstructive way, then that is a problem which needs to be addressed. We, as a community, have a very privileged position where we can directly contact the heads of the industry which we follow and a lot of that industry rests on our shoulders as the viewers and supporters in order to keep things going. We must appreciate our position and what people have been doing seems to be completely contrary to that.

Wow. never said they didnt do alot for sc2, what i said is that its pure stupidity to engage in a discussion about it when its forgotten within a week. last nights show deserved critisism in alot of ways.. the way he responded is beyond unprofessional, throwing everyone under the same bus (The whole community) and calling us ungrateful, yet we watch his show every week supporting the show. last episode was nothing but pure advertisement for MLG.
And ofc they profit off the show, are u kidding me. if not in $, they get alot of publicity for their teams/League witch in itself is their JOB! -.-

There is a general disdain for MLG many places, reddit, youtube and other sections that contain a SC2 community
Largely due to the early MLG shows that had a large amount of tech issues, the Dallas show being a gigantic catastrophe, stream issues and massive delays plagued the show. Then some of the smaller issues like the extended series, small prize pool, a few MLG centric SOTG where many felt MLG took precedent over every other tournament and very little criticism was given out to MLG by the "personalities" whereas Dreamhack, IPL, NASL and GSL were often heavily criticized for relatively minor things in comparison. And last but not least the general "dudebro" feel of the events, where Halo and Call of Duty are big staples of their show.
But what broke the camels back was most likely the Arena stuff that went PPV, all of these things and the general resentment toward "announcements of a announcements" and advertising over discussion regarding the game (the state of the game) all combined is why people are upset and being very down on the show.
If this were Dreamhack, IPL or GSL then i dont think people would react the same way. So i get why the host got upset but i dont think JP realizes the blunders that MLG has made and why many people have a negative attitude towards them. Whereas nobody outright dislikes IPL, GSL or Dreamhack.
The critique, anger and resentment isent directed as much at JP or SOTG, but far moreso at MLG, especially in light of this MLG-Kespa thing that may be a positive but could also be a gigantic negative to SC2 community.

i dont feel i responded in a disturbing nor an unintelligent way, my response was to his comment and fit perfectly with my views on that response. as for me not helping out? what do u know about that, i support streams/go to events. theres not much more that i can do.its not charity anymore, you actully can make a living doing this now. if one cant handle critisism you honestly dont deserve the spot that person is in, now thats a fact!!.

The "show" was going to be a quick one-off about a huge thing that happened in the world of eSports yesterday, and then you shit on him and the "show" because he can't answer (business wise) the questions iNcontrol asked.
The show was literally planned 15 minutes prior to going on air and I'm in NYC with zero SotG assets except for the vid intro and intro/outro music -- no art. Production was terrible but the content was there and I would of rather have the exclusivity (LOL) / timeliness of the topic rather then waiting a week to discuss it.
The idiocy and pure bullshit this community feeds its personalities makes people want to quit on a daily basis. If I didn't have friends on the show that made me enjoy it and was just doing this myself, I would of quit long, long ago. Lay off the fucking kool-aid and think for yourself rather then joining the mob, getting pitchforks, and making people / tournaments / organizations drop all interactivity on social media.
We know JP, we know.

You can file a complaint with the better business bureau if you have a problem with the name of the show. They handle finicky complaints very well from what I hear.

Ignore the stupid kids JP. Thank you for this impromptu episode. Keep up the good work!

And the reason many are upset with STOG specifically is that the show does not call out MLG on the bad things they do. MLG is put on a pedestal and everything they do is good. Incontrol tried to ask som important questions in the latest STOG regarding the exclusivity but got some generic bullshit answers that didn't answer shit. Yet the answers were not called out, they were accepted. This is what makes STOG a giant advertisement for MLG and this draws complaints.

I will ask it again. Why is it all of a sudden news to people? Are you new to SoTG? Have you not watched other episodes regarding MLG material where similar things happened? Quite the contrary, I did not feel this was an advertisement for MLG at all. It's a huge ass deal in the Starcraft world that Kespa is actually playing nice with another league, let alone a foreign league. It should have its own impromptu show discussing the deal.
If you view this past show as just an interview with Sundance re: the agreement, will it make you feel better? I doubt it. There will always be shit to pick on within this community.

No i do not care shit for what they call it. The problem is with what the product is and it's fucking weak that they can not try to call out MLG on what the community wants to know about, the exclusivity. The whole latest episode was only a platform for Sundance and Lee to state how good they are in getting Kespa to partner up to them without responding to the communities questions.
